I just wanted to say I love how you adopted my new name for Takumi's Fun Castle. It was a nice detail.

I love that name for it.

Hey it's been a while since I last shilled Berwick, you should play Berwick Saga Draggy, it's less punishing, it has saves every five turns, it has a great story and characters unlike Fates and an excellent take on the "shithead king" concept that puts Garon to shame! It was so good I unironically despised him as opposed to ironically loving him!

I would, if PS2 emulation wasn't more fickle than the current weather (as in, it's warm one half of the day, the other half it almost feels like it's freezing).

I have not really felt like getting round to finishing those Fates hard playthroughs in a while, is what I'm saying.

I also have my second attempt at Conquest Hard still unfinished.
I'm currently mainly playing Samurai Warriors 5, I have gotten Death End Re;Quest and Ys Origin on sale recently, both of which I'm planning on playing fairly soon, and I have gone back to messing around in Digimon Story Cyber Sleuth and Megadimension Neptunia VII periodically.

That should tell you how motivated I am to go back to it.
As in, the farther it stays away from me, the better.

Well, it's fine. I figured something out for the stairwell. No reason I can't do the same for Takumi's About As Fun As Dragging Your Balls Through Broken Glass Castle. And then I get to brag that I beat Takumi's Horseshit Castle in lunatic and only considered suicide a couple of times.

Now imagine this kind of mindset when you're already not enjoying the game because of characters and story you don't like, as well as the gameplay not being enough to salvage that kinda garbage, and you're already frustrated because of it, and you have me way back when I played this on Hard Mode. Your feelings on Takumi's About As Fun As Dragging Your Balls Through Broken Glass Castle match my feelings on the entirety of Conquest starting from Chapter 17 all the way until the endgame of it perfectly. It legit made me want to die sometimes.

I did not have save states, so I had to replay everything every time I made even the slightest mistake.

I did it for the questionable bragging rights of being able to say "I beat Conquest on Hard". It was not worth it.

And yes, Draggy rants about Conquest again, what else is new?
Just want people to understand where I'm coming from, I guess.
And Ruben's comments made me feel oddly relieved that I am not the only one this game instills such feelings into, though I do feel bad for Ruben for having those experiences in the first place. But yeah, I guess that is why I brought it up again. Sorry.

    Have a cool song instead:

    *sigh*

Will it ever trigger tho with that non existant skill of hers? xD

    Dunno, never tried it, haha
I did try the Tomefaire variant before, though, and it was pretty okay to use.

You, talking positively about Fates? What's the world come to...?

    Don't get used to it.
I mean, I gotta give credit where it's due.

I can say the same about Hana, Kaze, Hisame, Nyx, Mozu, Velouria, and Ignatius.
Those are all Fates characters I legitimately like.

By hey, none are as bad as Lianshi's crossbow in DW7

Oh god, don't remind me. XD
Lianshi in WO3U and DW8XL was straight up unusable for me. Empires and WO4 kinda fixed her, but her duck-hook blades were kind of unwieldy, as well. She's probably the Wu character I've played the least across all games I have she appeared in, with Sun Quan or Xiaoqiao being the ones I used the most... especially in DW8Empires and WO4.
Sun Quan's Flame Blade is only surpassed by Arnice's Warriors All-Stars moveset for most fun sword moveset in Musou games for me.
And Xiaoqiao's Dual Fans are really fun to play around with, as well. Not to mention deceptively effective.

Knowing that, wow 1-range mages would just get utterly fucked by that.

That's only tomes/scrolls in Fates right, not affecting other magical weapons?

I think it affects magical weapons, too, but I'm not sure.

That's some "I hate my wife" writing there.

I don't know how much truth there is to it, but there are stories that Kicho (or Noh, as she is more commonly known) tried to murder Nobunaga Oda in actual history, per her father's instructions. I think it was something along the lines of her father telling her to kill him if he turns out to be the fool people touted him as (Nobunaga Oda was called the "Fool of Owari" before he soundly trounced Yoshimoto Imagawa at Okehazama while vastly outnumbered).

This game made it a thing, with her trying to kill him, but failing, leading to the screenshot above.

  6. 4 hours ago, Shrimperor said:

Is there a mother that could fix that, even? a +SKL fem CornCob?

Orochi would. Kind of. I think.
You're better off using Orochi, probably.

Rhajat can be hilarious for My Castle stuff, though. With Sakura as her mom, she can get both Counter and Countermagic (they stack, btw, when someone attacks you with magic from up close), along with Miracle. And then if you get her an S-support with Hisame, she can also get Vantage. Slap Tomefaire on there (or Vengeance, when playing Rev and you have Ophelia), and she's a good troll unit, when peeps try to actually fight you. The hilarity comes in when you realize that this setup allows Sakura to do the same, if you give her an A+ support with Hana (Vantage, Miracle, Counter, Countermagic, I mean. It would lock her out of Vengeance on Rev, but who cares. Leo can keep his grubby abusive scumbag hands off her).
Requires grinding, sure, but it's funny.

    ---

Bows in Samurai Warriors 5 are actually based. Never thought I'd call bows in a Musou game based (except Ina in Samurai Warriors 4 and Warriors Orochi 4), but... here we are.
The SW5 bow moveset is essentially Ina's SW4 moveset, but on steroids. It's glorious.

    Also, oh my
    0LWdmML.jpg

"When I look at you like this, I recognize your true beauty", he says to his wife... after said wife tried to murder him.
    Hm.
    Also, what the fuck translators?
It should be "Wenn ich dich so ansehe". "Ansehen" is the infinitive form and is thus used incorrectly in this sentence. Friggin' hell.

We're still waiting for Rune Factory 5 to get localized early next year but I wouldn't mind a remake of 1 or whatever in the meantime.

Speaking of which, I have heard tales of this game having several glaring performance and stability issues, which is worrying if true.

I did finish after a long, drawn-out, piecemeal progress my fourth EOV run, minus the 6th Stratum (which doesn't take long). And with that, I've completed the game using every Legendary Title once.

Nice, nice! Congratulations on that one!

12 hours ago, Interdimensional Observer said:

I'm not usually one for high-risk high-reward builds, but my Impact Brawler, which I kept constantly at near-death HP was my MVP of the run. It started to fall off in the 5th Stratum when it stopped consistently OHKOing things with Titan Killer, but damned it was good in the earlier Stratums. And it remained my number 1 FOE/boss killer. Having a Botanist around made having to revive it with increasing frequency (almost never in the 3rd, sometimes in the 4th, often in the 5th) not such a bother.

I see! That is great to hear, as usually, these "you have to be near death to use this" classes/skills aren't things that I find too useful because the risk is often not worth the reward, but in this case, it appears to be that it is, at least early on!
Almost makes me wish this class had a skill to heal itself, like 7th Dragon III does with the Rune Knight, as Brave Blade is... stupidly overpowered, even if it does shave off a large percentage of your HP... which you can easily restore using Drain Sword. In some fights, you can have your Rune Knight do naught but spam Brave Blade and Drain Sword in this order, and you'll have won before most enemies (even bosses) ever had a chance to do much to you. It's insane.

The Graced Poisoner's Auto-Smoke skill was neat. It randomly tries to apply one of the four front row-targeting ailments before the first turn of battle. Not amazing since I can't choose which ailment gets attempted, but the sooner the enemy is debilitated, the better, so I like it. I somewhat regret using the default Brouni over a Celestrian for the Botanist though, although the Brouni's worst Luck in the game can be salvaged and become usable, I would've been fine trading some agility, wisdom, HP and vitality for 2nd best Luck instead.

I see! That does sound very useful! The lower luck, as you said, should not be too much of a dealbreaker, as these games usually offer ways to remedy it. A Luck-increasing accessory should do the trick nicely!
That almost makes me think of the very useful Random Disease skill from the War Magus, which I always found rather nice to use in EO2U, as you can bypass the process of uncovering which ailments a particular enemy or boss is susceptible to, even if the random nature of it can sometimes be a double-edged sword if you'd rather apply a specific ailment on something.

Omnimancer was a cool idea- a class that can mix any two elements together and has all six available. But, the thing devours SP like with no end in sight. It has so many skills it wants to master to reach maximum potential.

    Ronin moment. XD

I'll try to get back to my second Classic EOU2 run, although I might drop the difficulty from Expert to Standard for the Overlord, my team doesn't look built for it. My issue with EOU2 is that I feel I need a guide open on hand when I'm fighting a boss to look up its attack pattern, because forget a step, and you'll get clobbered worse than you already will. And I need to eventually resume Nexus too, it bothers me just a little every day knowing they're still unfinished.

I definitely want to replay any of the Etrian Odyssey games I own, too! Mostly V and Nexus, however, as there are still some team combinations I have not yet played around with. And then, there is still III that I need to get back to. But that is what an extensive backlog does to you, I suppose, haha!

Yes, this is blasphemy. What are you going to say now, that Angemon's got better in this version too?

I actually watched that episode today, where Takeru meets Angemon for the first time.
I enjoyed the combined Adventure/Frontier plot reference, and Velgremon's appearance in it, I will admit. But I have seen too little of Angemon himself to make a judgement at this point. I will say, though, the series itself had some really good episodes since the Eyesmon "arc".
I also liked the anime debut of NeoDevimon, whom I only knew from V-Tamer 01 previously. The thing looked creepy as hell.

August 24th was the release date of the first Rune Factory game back in 2006.

Possible remake imminent? Or is this just a celebratory post? But why treat it like this if it's the latter?

A remake of Rune Factory 1 would be super interesting if it tremendously expands on the skeleton of the original.

@Interdimensional Observer @Acacia Sgt @twilitfalchion @DragonFlames (i think this all the Rune Factory fans here besides me)

We'll find out tomorrow if it actually means anything.

    Oh, nice!
If there are some news on a new game or something, that would be pretty neat, I think!

Probably ReBirth2. It really raised my opinion of Nepgear and as I liked the story/character development. I'll probably go there.

edited that in, there is a lock on function, but that's what the issue is! It's broken af. I should be able to react to any oncoming attacks... when the camera works like it should. That's supposed to be the idea. XD

    I see!
Man, that really sucks, that it doesn't exactly work that way.

  10. Just now, lightcosmo said:

Yeah, the camera was coded by monkey's.

Serious mode, imagine the camera starting behind me like it should when an enemy is in front of me, like it should. Now imagine them warping to my 5 o'clock but the camera not turning at all. That happens pretty much all the time and it's cause they simply didn't give two shits.

Oh gods, that does sound awful!
And there is no lock-on option, either? You just have to deal with getting attacked from off-screen?

  11. 2 minutes ago, lightcosmo said:

It wouldn't be bad if it didn't happen pretty much every time. XD Or at least - not as bad! I would still be stressed a bit, but not to a higher degree like i can sometimes get.

Do you know if there is any reason for the camera misbehaving like that?
Like, does it get stuck on something in the background, for instance? Or is it just the camera being a douche?

Well it's annoying because i'm not the one making the mistake, yet i'm being punished here. I can play almost perfect and still fail cause the camera decides, nope, you're dying this time!

Replace camera with RNG, and it would still be very true. It's understandable, getting upset/frustrated at a loss that is out of your own control.

Nothing- and i mean nothing: upsets me more than when a game has a shit camera. Seriously though? If the intent is for the camera to be behind me- but not too close, then it should do that! Logic.

    Sorry that happened to you!
I agree, a crappy camera can really ruin your day.
