  1. Gunter, Felicia, and Jakob are all official. Kaze is non-canon, but I consider his A-support credible enough to include him as a retainer for discussion purposes. lol @ Silas. Homie ain't shit, even if he thinks he is. Even without Kaze, Gunter and company are the god-trio. There's no group dynamic better than theirs.
  2. Team Corrin, tbh. All of Gunter, Felicia, Jakob, and Kaze have an interesting dynamic with their own motivations and are among my favorite characters in the game overall. It's also worth noting that every character on that list, save for Jakob, has an exceptional English voice.
  3. 100% agree with this, as well the notion of 23 generally being Xander + Rallybots: The Motion Picture, but I also wanted to chime in how lol Oboro's group is because their Xander checks are basically herself (if she procs), and the other Basaras. But she'll never actually reach you because you can hover just in reach of the Basara she's paired with, so he'll attack you and die, leaving her useless ass to be unprotected PP fodder.
  4. If your team is shit, you can always play it safe and crawl to the goal while waiting for good wind patterns. I don't even have a solid approach for it half the time because my team tends to vary wildly from 4 fliers and 2 Sorcs (cake) to none of those things. As bad as it may seem to begin with, the aggro wind patterns do let up eventually.
  5. 22, 23, and 26 are really my only favorite chapters. Brilliant enemy positioning, tons of ways to approach them, and relatively straightforward brawls with tons of enemies. Their music and design algamate into the epitome of what a climax is supposed to be.
  6. Yep. You're doing fine for a first run. Don't be afraid to apply more Camilla in the early chapters to make problems go away. That's what she's there for. You also don't want to risk her being underpowered in key chapters where flight control shaves the difficulty by a significant amount (20), so it's actually advantageous to have her fight a lot before then.Chiki's Conquest run demonstrates just how pivotal a unit she is the whole game. Here's how he approached Ch. 12: https://youtu.be/kFI_vcP81zo As for me, not sure if this is the same for every cartridge, but the medicine pot at the beginning always gives me +4 defense and to the right is one with +4 Mag. Once I have all relevant units positioned around those pots, there really isn't much to the rest of the map besides running sandbag units into the poison pots to clear a path for Camilla. Don't forget the treasure chests to the left and right. You'll need that money for all of the post-13 shop goods. Sincerely consider +Str/Mag for all future runs. They give higher bonuses than the other boons and killing faster makes the game easier from Ch. 1 on. Nothing else compares.
  7. - Reclass Jakob first to breeze through the early game. - Stack meal bonuses and tonics on pivotal units for each chapter as needed. If you are using online resources, pick up at least 30 Quartz and buy a Chef's Hat from a lv. 3 shop as early as possible to give to a units who makes Exquisite-type meals (Jakob, Peri, Anna, etc.), as they offer the highest bonuses. - Sorcerers break the game. You can stack Spirit Dusts and forge Nosferatu for the likes of Ophelia or Corrin to solo entire sections and chapters. - Xander with resources also breaks the game. Charlotte marriage + every Talisman and Speedwing allows him to autopilot through sections that are normally made difficult by most units not having good mixed defenses or reliable 1-2 range weapons, such as lategame Onmiyoji spam. - Capture a Pass Falco from Ch. 24 to have recruited before endgame. With Rescue, this allows you to skip all of the enemies in the chapter to fly straight to Takumi and end the game.
  8. Uh, I think you're misquoting me. The post I was responding to claims Flora is the better unit, which is more than a little ignorant. I'm utterly baffled as to how someone can ignore Felicia's massive availability lead and a unique EXP/class distribution that allows her to do absolutely anything. But whatever. I've been saying this all thread and people will still trip over themselves to talk about who heals better. Just leave it be.
  9. I agree, if only because Past Light is the best full-stop, and this is in full acknowledgment of the likes of No Justice, A Dark Fall, and, fuck it, End of All.I also find it no less fitting that the one time in Conquest this plays, it's during the debut of one of the best characters in the game.
  10. I've grown to appreciate the idea of not engaging when a certain action may possibly result in a reset. Wasted too many hours on this game to keep resetting to 1% crits and 90% hits when I could just fall back and wait for a better opportunity.
  11. Just to play Devil's advocate, I'm committing to memory which enemy units in the series do just that, and while some of them are basically joke characters who join for no reason (Roger), many of the recruits in the DS games intended to join from the start for their own reasons, and get the perfect opportunity when they see Marth marching on their turf. FE7, however...does have a handful of throwaway characters with no reason to fight for you. "Uh, who's Geitz and why's he on my team? Hello?" Overall, the early games were actually pretty good about justifying side-switching, while later games basically turned it into a joke.
  12. It's actually a legitimate complaint that Ced doesn't get a mount. I was aghast at what he was capable of in my first run, but once I had a better feel for the game in my second, Ced found himself left behind constantly while Leif and Seliph destroyed everything. I suppose you can use some staff trickery to speed him up into combat-dense areas with everyone else, but it's a notable disadvantage that Arthur doesn't have. In the grand scheme of things, it'll require a map-by-map analysis to truly compare the two.
  13. Ah, I just remembered one too: Falcon Knights traditionally beat mages, which justifies the Lance advantage over tomes. I also just remembered how Ninjas (and to a lesser extent, Maids/Butlers) in this game tend to have high Res, so in a way, it does justify the Shuriken advantage if we consider it a new trend. All in all, it is definitely not something to overthink, as it only applies to a few select examples, but I wouldn't be surprised if the developers thought this way too.
  14. I had to liken the alternate weapon types to a traditional weapon type to get it down. Tomes are Swords, Shuriken are Lances, and Bows are Axes. After that, I was never confused again. It does not help with memory, but I now notice that WTA aligns with the traditional method of defeating an enemy type in the older games. As such, it makes sense that axes are at a disadvantage against tomes because Sages nuke Warriors. Pegasus Knights also have no business taking an arrow, thus the lance disadvantage against bows. Knives and tomes are the outlier matchup, as Thieves/Assassins never had any special advantage over magic users in previous games.
  15. My Conquest Lunatic playthroughs have condensed to about half a dozen characters, each loaded with tonics and a pair-up bot. The last few slots would be Azura + any number of rallybots or staffbots. I am beginning to notice that Xander sort of solos the game while the rest of the team are his backup dancers, regardless of setup.
  16. As I was reading the post above, I remembered that there were a few characters that I really liked and never got around to talking about. I'm going to start with my favorite male character, Xander. None of the male characters have a better design. He exudes regality from head to toe, and everything about him, from the look on his face to the sound of his voice, exudes confidence. Arthur is perhaps the only character who can stand up to him in sheer boldness, but a lot of his personality is played for laughs. His supports with Beruka are among my favorites in the entire game. "There is no advantage in the world that will ensure your victory." "Pathetic. You saw true strength and decided to kill your employer to save face." His voice clip for 6+ stats in a level-up is synonymous with 'I'm so above you'. A lot of his complaints come from his portrayal in Birthright, but I honestly don't even consider Birthright a real game. I think his portrayal in Conquest is flawless.
  17. I started off buying skills in my first few runs as well. After a while, the game's challenge just became trivial and I forgot why I needed to buy skills in the first place. :/ There's still a lot of fun to be had in experimenting with class setups that can be obtained through A+ and S-rank, and there are some characters that can put in massive amount of work with classes and skills they can only get from marrying the Avatar. I haven't explored all of them yet myself, but I will say that Xander with Lancebreaker may very well be one of the most broken things in this game.
  18. She also joins around five chapters later where her base speed is low enough for most enemies to double her. How is she supposed to be fighting if she does zero damage to the enemies in Ch. 21 and gets doubled by the entire map on Chapters 20 and beyond? Felicia automatically joins with Tomebreaker, so she can at least get some combat in on Ch. 16 where the enemies are predominantly low-res or mages.
  19. Felicia and Jakob have a massive advantage over Flora in that they can skill dip all game long with the wide range of classes they have available to them through their supports. For example, Felicia can marry Arthur early and go Berserker. By Ch. 14, she can have all of HP +5, Rally Strength, and Axefaire with access to the Bolt Axe and better HP/Str level-ups. Jakob can marry Azura early and go Kinshi Knight after Paladin, which gives him Darting Blow and Air Superiority, both extremely useful skills throughout the whole game. Only Felicia and Jakob can get lategame skills as early as they do, so it's a complete waste to have them in their base classes, which give them nothing. Flora doesn't have much going for her besides B-staves. She only supports Corrin and Felicia, and her bases are all pretty bad for the time she joins, which is around Ch. 21 (the game is almost over...). Corrin will never be available to marry her, so she's stuck in her Maid class doing nothing but heal. Fortunately, deployment slots are quite generous in the lategame, so she actually can be fielded for her one and only purpose so that the better units can fight. Bear in mind that Izana also joins at Ch. 23 if the Hot Springs are lv. 3, so there's really no shortage of lategame staff users.
  20. I actually legitimately like Senno's design. I capture him almost every chance I get and end up not using him. Just can't stand to put him 6 ft. under without having him on my team. Fun fact: I captured him just before Ch. 23 recently, and I think we're up to eight persuasions without him wanting to join. IDK if that's supposed to happen or not, but there you go.
  21. This thread wasn't really needed to confirm that Haitaka is a god. I didn't use him in combat as much as you did, of course, but I am actively upset whenever Corrin Dragon Fangs him or Jakob scores a crit while I'm trying to soften him up for the capture, which is more often than not. I'd go Basara first for Rend Heaven, then Spearmaster the rest of the way through. Saves a good amount of gold in place of going Spearmaster first just to dip in Basara later.
  22. Some of you guys are missing out on a lot of offensive potential by choosing not to reclass Elise. There are plenty of staff users in the game who can take her place once she's reclassed. But nobody else can really do some of the things that she does.
  23. My first impressions of Elise were the same as many of you, in that she would probably play this anime trope straight and as a result, say and do nothing of consequence. But to the contrary, I find Elise to be the type of character who gets better the more you learn about her, since there are definitely shades of a well-rounded person hidden beneath the anime trope she embodies. For example, there can be no argument against Elise's introduction to Forrest being one of her most solidly defining character moments. The same child Leo mocked and scorned for dressing how he pleased was immediately complimented and accepted by that same character you call immature. The first one to scold Leo for being a shitty father? Elise. The one who lead the charge to rescue him while Leo hesitated? Also Elise. Even when she's doing 'little sister' this and 'little sister' that, where's the counterargument for those moments of genuine insight wherein she embodies something more? Let's not forget her being purveyor of peace that Corrin failed to be. All Corrin ever talks about is wanting to help people, but he/she doesn't do anything to embody the hope people place upon them, unlike Elise. There is actually a fair bit of social progression scattered about in her supports, such as her diplomacy toward the Hoshidan characters, knowing full well of the tension between their countries. I'm also aware of the Devil's advocate. There are several supports of her just pestering others for no good reason, such as with Jakob, Kaze, and Keaton. Even her support with Kaze, however, exemplifies to some small degree the type of character she truly is when Kaze mentions how honored he is in response to Elise being excited to socialize with a Hoshidan. This is consistent with her other supports, wherein she is able to socialize with the Hoshidan royals effortlessly, and even plans to don Hoshidan fashion in hopes that her subjects will be more accepting of their culture. I think her selfishness contrasts well with her moments of maturity in a coming-of-age sort of way. I think the criticisms against Elise's character being a little too immature at times are fair enough, but they are juxtaposed against some genuinely great character moments. It's fair to say that she is one of the better-written ones in Fates.
  24. I don't care about Ophelia's looks. I just think her gimmick is written better than Owain's because of the way her dialogue is written. She doesn't go out of her way to pester people like her father does. She's usually just sitting there divining or whatever a godlike mage does, then someone butts into her personal space, to which she politely replies. But since Odin is always starting the conversations in his supports, usually about nothing, he's treated as an annoyance. There's also the fact that she never lets on that she's joking, which is another reason everyone makes fun of Odin. It's pretty clear that he's just screwing around most of the time, which is why people are so annoyed with him, but Ophelia never seems to let that on. She seems straight-faced and honest about everything she says, and on top of that, she is an actual magical prodigy in-game, so you're never really given a reason to doubt her when she is talking about being chosen by the power of the stars and stuff. In a way, she reminds me a lot of Luna Lovegood in that she's totally unaware of how loopy she is. But in the context of magic, an otherworldly concept to begin with, it's kind of hard to define 'out there' in any way other than speech pattern. She seems to have an obsession with space, due to all of her celestial references. Odin talks about power like he's read too many fantasy novels. Consider me squarely in Ophelia's corner. EDIT: Yeah, I don't regret adoring this character. Odin never says anything like that.
  25. I think Sakura getting less attention than Elise is quite natural, given Elise's ample exposure in the main stories and actual involvement in the plot. Elise is one of the most influential characters in all three games.
