Wow, I've been quiet for awhile.
Looks like the strategy portion of the game received a massive upgrade.
Seems like something happened between both games. Tech levels seem to have massively fallen in some areas, or maybe that's just what happens when you don't have a tightly linked economy and transportation system like we do nowadays. Things just fall apart.
The base of Stuttgart will house some basic weapons facilities, perhaps.
No factories = no manufacturing capabilities.
A single lab has its own queue and research tree. That makes things more complicated.
If there's anything to learn from these games, weapons are more important than armor.Though I must ask, what the hell have you guys been doing if you haven't bothered analyzing the library in the space station until now?
I'm going to be horrible at managing this.
Let's look at our squad members. Like the first game, I can't rename them, only change their callsigns.
Ross needs to improve his horrible speed. He's not good for much except as a meatshield. Psionics are a separate race (as are Cyborgs). Being a standard human, I don't even know if he can use Psi Powers. Probably not, though I suppose having some psi resistance would help.
Douglas is going to be Brian 2.0, except maybe less awesome.
Who knows, he's going to be the medic.
Why am I thinking of Mass Effect armor?
Hooray, we can build a weapons factory. But then we can't build weapons because we haven't researched them.
>tribal existence
Since we're not under pressure from an alien invasion, nothing really happens.
I don't have te motivation to forcefully conquer areas either.
Well, turns out we actually can make stuff, and we can also adjust how much of an item to make for the factory in question.
>Ordnance
Grenades or...actual heavy artillery? Because I've always wanted to use a mortar on aliens.
So if people ask for help and we complete jobs for them they might join us. Otherwise we'll have to conquer them.
Interesting....
Cyborgs. The Biomass seems to have changed these humans so that they are biocompatible with metallic implants.
Some backstory is elaborated on, but it seems like the current generation of humans has mostly forgotten about UFO: Aftermath? What the hell did the Reticulans do?!
And the Reticulans seem to have gone into a gun-toting, feral state. Something has gone really wrong over the years. Yes they built a space station and moved a lot of humans on it, but many more humans were left behind to regress. The biomass is still here, and the renegade reticulans from before have gone nuts.
The standard capture mission. This is going to suck.
We came out of the corner and now we're sort of in the middle of the map.
Oh hey, a Muckstar. Shouldn't you be hanging back with the Biomass or something?
Well, time to die you bouncing ball of spikes.
Walking inside a building reveals the interior.
OH GOD
With the new friendly fire mechanics most of the guys can't shoot.
What is this madness, why is Eric paralyzed? Some sort of early game Psi Power?
Poor Eric gets slapped around a bit, but eventually lasers carry the day.
The Cyborgs seem to like us.
Trueshot is a solid addition to the team. I assume he isn't meant to be a fast character.
He gets a Desert Eagle because I'm going to make him a badass.
Meanwhile this guy gets a grenade.
Medikits also heal a lot slower now. No more heal-spam during combat.
Oh shit time to defend mankind.
That's not nice.
Let's hope the person I have to rescue is a hardy one.
AH, found him.
Time to make a rush back to the capsule. No enemies encountered so far.
And I said that too soon. We have a small group of hostiles at the capsule.
Phosphorus grenade roasts transgenants like a barbecue.
Finished up the library research item, treated to a short cutscene.
>old Laputa
>this Laputa
Wait, what the fuck?
Did you forget about Reticulans? Did everyone get mindwiped?
>Potheads
>not Reticulans
I demand new soldiers from my human regions. They offer 2.
Jayashree will be my sniper, just like the Jayashree from the previous game.
Every rifleman levels up dexterity so they can be better meatshields.
But Medic guy gets Strength so he can carry more kits.
It would appear that grenades disappear permanently after use now. Damn.
Is this an upgrade or a downgrade, going from a laser weapon to a standard shotgun? Hm...
Frickin' Reticulans, why are you attacking us?!
This is a tent.
This is us in a bad position outside the tent.
This is aliens dying to superior firepower outside the tent.
Big man takes the lead.
Eat lead, motherfucker
Kill 1 alien, 6 more show up...
Set 'em up and we'll knock 'em down!
Some perception would be nice... this guy couldn't see for shit.
Some smarts.
Neat, a second base. I'll make it my high-tech base.
This track construction upkeep is killing me. I don't have anymore low-tech resources.
Thanks for saying I lack guts. Maybe you can lead the next assault you brave soul.
These tracks can go everywhere. I think I'm wasting resources. Probably only need to link bases
We definitely have lost a LOT of knowledge.
-
Jesus. I take it the difficulty spiked like Mt Everest bursting out of the sea floor?
From the sea floor of the Mariana Trench. Heh.
Any way, moving to the next game..
After Aftermath comes Aftershock.
For those who need a refresher about exactly what happened, here's the summary.
- Reticulans seed Earth with spores that kill most of humanity and other lifeforms and mutate the rest.
- Remnants of humanity unite and push back against the new wildlife.
- They quickly find that they're not alone: Aliens wielding laser and plasma weaponry are found flying UFOs.
- Humanity quickly reverse engineers this new technology and fights against both transgenants and the aliens.
- A large Biomass is found spreading across Earth.
- Humanity finds a way to repulse the Biomass. Aliens now use more advanced weaponry and more dangerous transgenants show up.
- Classified info is found and decrypted: the aliens have been here for a long time. The particular faction of aliens humanity is fighting against are actually renegades that got here first and sealed the portals so the rest of their kind could not give chase. The Biomass is their experiment to create a Godlike supercomputer that is as big as a planet. The spores are there to terraform the area.
-The renegades offer humanity a place by their side in exchange for peace. They offer to create a new habitable area in space and will move as many humans to it as possible. Humanity has earned their respect as fearsome warriors and developed scientists.
- The Commonwealth of Earth (or CoE, for short) accept the offer.
- 50 years pass since Aftermath, the movement of humans from Earth to a space station called the Laputa is known as the Exodus. However...not all humans made it...
So it took 50 years to find a way to get back down?
Compared to the previous game, most of the stats remain the same. Looks like there will be melee weapons. Also, what a sorry bunch.
Heh, a knife. Also, the Laser Weapons are now known as Reticulan Weapons.
They need our help. Let's go.
Those balls show us where we can deploy on the map. I pick the corner one so I won't start off surrounded.
Well, looks like you're still around.
Things look considerably brighter compared to the previous game.
ALIEN. SHOOT THE BASTARD.
Troops can now switch between quick shot and aimed shot. Quick shot makes them shoot faster, but is less accurate. Aimed shot is pretty slow, but increases their accuracy. We can now go prone too!
There's actually friendly fire now if soldiers get in the way of someone else. David currently has a 3% or lower chance of shooting Neil.
Neil goes prone, and that chance goes to 0.
They keep walking over and we shoot them.
You guys are really grateful to just let us join you.
-
Figuratively literally fuck the very pixels used to display their offer
Alright, let's try that.
THE QUEEN SHALL BE FOUND. FOR EARTH
NO, FUCK YOU
Healing through walls? Sounds awesome.
Truly one of the best armors.
This looks promising.
Let's give it to this expendable guy and see how he uses it.
Aw man, 17 days later and more research still needs to be done.
Oh hey we just need to secure this giant UFO
Like any true final level, you start off surrounded with warp assault rifle-toting aliens everywhere.
Mind controlling an enemy causes you to lose control of the original person. The mind control only lasts for 10-15 seconds.
Mind controlled units can act as spotters, but it probably would be better to have them disarm themselves since you don't know exactly when the control will wear off.
To-Kei runs out of ammo, and he grabs a gun from Mr. Qualveg.
And things get a lot worse from here.
Wolfgang gets knocked out of commission from a lucky shot.
There was literally no time to move to a better position. We were surrounded. Brian tries to stave off attackers by mind controlling one so the other guys could focus on the other fronts. Malcolm switches to a medkit because Brian can't do anything when he's mind controlled someone. As soon as active attackers are shot to death, the mind controlled Reticulan is forced to toss his weapons aside and is summarily executed by everyone else
As the medkits start running low and so does the ammo, things take a dark turn...
Brian takes one to the head.
Then Mr. Qualveg.
2 plasma launcher explosions kill everyone else.
I replayed that fucking level 10 times. There seemed to be no end of enemies and sometimes they finish the squad with 2-3 rockets into the room right when the mission begins.
Screw that shit, I'm sorry Earth but I'm taking the offer, the canon ending.
Humanity lost and is moved to a spacestation. Earth turns into a massive bio-supercomputer.
UFO: Aftermath has ended. UFO: Aftershock begins.
Zooming out from nerve to planet.

New weapons galore! Collapsible turrets! Unfortunately they make the character extra slow because they're heavy and the guy needs to wear heavy armor.
Only 5 people allowed? This might be hard.
This team should do.
Oh hey, aircraft can still be upgraded.
Hilly terrain, transgenants weaving in and out of line of sight...awesome....NOT.
I expected the turret to have flashier shooting sfx, but it's just a little blue poof. It fires very fast and chews through health at moderate distances though, but the idiot soldier AI keeps redeploying whenever he's done killing a target.
CRAB PLS GO
Chewing through enemies like nothing
They just HAD to give the last Cudgel monster an incendiary rocket launcher. Thanks!
Well uh...hello there.
Just like humans, these guys have unevenly distributed stats.
So we can grow stuff on our airplanes now?
Sky Armor... Well it might be more useful in this stage of the game because most of the aliens use energy weapons.
I suppose I should research this even though my guys are mostly using kinetic weapons. The riflemen meatshields, I mean.
Greys can't equip medikits, grenades, or anything human-related. They can use the alien weapons though.
Apparently Men O' War are supposed to be stealthy too.
Are we reaching the endgame?
Let's research random shit for science
Let's test the new Grays in combat and see how they fare.
We start off surrounded, and the enemy have some sort of rapid fire gun that spews blue puffs like that turret from earlier. It chews through health like a motherfucker but fortunately grenade launchers and microslug launchers tear through Reticulans like wet tissue paper. I've decided to use the gatling gun instead because it's not as heavy but it still hits extremely hard.
ONESHOT ASSHOLE
I just realized how much I hate clearing out Reticulan bases. Thin corridors means at most only 1-2 of your guys will engage an enemy. If the alien holds a microslug accelerator, goodbye 1-2 guys.
Burning through medikits like no other
And a microslug accelerator (or a new weapon?) oneshots poor Florence. Seems like the green-shield Reticulans are new elites.
Dick runs out of grenades, so he pulls out the rocket launcher.
In close quarters.
Apparently there was only 1 microslug accelerator. Everything else was some kind of warp weapon. Dammit.
New items!
I must know what Warp is
Bio Armor? Neat.
Oh shit they're trying to turn Earth into a supercomputer
????
Let's kill random monsters.
Gray + Advanced Alien Pistol = Rapid fire like Super Smash Fox
WHY DO THESE GUYS HAVE LONG DISTANCE ASSAULT RIFLES
But they're no match for humans (and a random gray)
The Renegade Reticulans offer us a place by their side if we accept their offer.
Here's where it gets difficult. Accepting the offer leads to the bad ending. However, the bad ending is canon and leads to the events of the next game of the trilogy. What should I do? Not accepting leads to a "find their main base" sort of mission. And frankly, those warp rifles freak me out.
Should I accept or decline? I wish to follow canon, but I would like to hear your thoughts.
-
I forgot to ask earlier whether you'd gotten the opportunity to expand across the oceans yet. One thing that made me wonder about the non-U.S. base locations is I'd heard that Area 51 is always an important mission to take quickly, and wondered if there was an equivalent somewhere in fucking Asia, or if they expected you to cross the sea as quick after the mission popped up on the map as possible.
I haven't expanded across oceans yet, but special missions will be approachable from across the oceans no matter what, it seems. THe only problem would be that the chopper takes a long time to get there.
Alright back to the game.
The other half of the biomass research description
This pretty much confirms that letting Planter UFOs allows them to plant down Biomass. And that's a bad thing.
They found Area 51, otherwise known as Dreamland.
And here it is. Time to stock up on the medikits.
Malcolm gets a Psionic helmet.
That's disturbing.
Ah, the holy grail.
Well, let's cut that ball open
HERE WE ARE OUTSIDE THE ENTRANCE OF AREA 51
HUMANITY NEEDS THE INFORMATION WITHIN
LET'S GET INTO POSIT--OH SHIT WE'RE UNDER FIRE
OH FUCK THEY HAVE ROCKET LAUNCHERS
FOCUS ALL FIRE ON THE HEAVY WEAPONS GUY OH SHIT THERE'S MORE
Kill 2, 5 more show up to take their place. And 3 of them have rockets. NOT. FUN.
Malcolm does a good job luring the bastards out. Some of the smarter Reticulans were waiting beside the gate, weapons poised and ready to shoot at anyone who entered. Fortunately Malcolm's fast so he could grab their attention, but get out before they could pull the trigger.
The flamethrower is even slower than a shotgun. It takes awhile to aim, but it's area of effect allows it to torch areas around corners and out of one's line of sight.
OH SHIT ONE SHOT TOOK OFF 50% of BRIAN'S HEALTH RUN FOR IT
The other problem being that most of the squad couldn't get line of sight on that asshole.
Fortunately Dick is great with indirect fire, and pours ordnance on the last known location of the Reticulan sniper (?)
But the sniper just walks out of the place, cuts off a chunk of Chan's health, then dies.
The remaining guards stream out and are promptly dealt with.
With some ammo remaining, everyone makes it to the entrance.
Looks like any other base...
Or not...
Malcolm scouts out hallways and rooms, and signals for the others to follow.
Torching around corners helps.
There aren't that many Reticulans here, but you know where they are because they will open doors. Since doors aren't obscured by the fog of war, if you're observant you will notice them disappearing and that's where the aliens are.
That is one heavy suitcase. Time to drop everything.
Only 1 reticulan on the way back. He didn't stand a chance. The base guards here weren't armed with any heavy weapons either, thankfully.
I don't believe I've posted about these before. They're even better than the human-produced versions!
And that sniper rifle has the best damage per bullet out of all the rifles, but it has a slower rate of fire.
That's probably what the Reticulan Sniper was using. So, it's a heavy weapon...
Heh, it's like an opposing magnet.
I don't remember the Jammer ever attacking..
Heh, looks like we'll be forced to sacrifice a few military bases. That's alright...
NEAT.
>6 days
Ah fuck.
Huh, that little harmless beetle is actually dangerous. Interesting...
Nice.
Looks like newly conquered territories in Biomass will automatically sport Repulsors.
Living rocket launchers? Alright...
With the chopper back at base, we can examine the intel more closely.
Godammit some Planter UFO managed to do its work undetected.
Let's do a random mission because Council of Earth troops seem to be hated by the RNG for now...
>Peaceful Reticulans
U wot m8?
>6 days to develop the technology for railguns
>another 6 days to manufacture one
DAMN.
Let's hunt some transgenants.
Oh hey a Morelm---WHY ARE YOU USING A ROCKET LAUNCHER OH SHIT AAAARGH
Caught a glimpse of a new enemy.
Buildings everywhere
Shit line of sight everywhere
Enemies popping out of nowhere
The jellyfish thing dies quickly to a single frag grenade, fortunately.
Another Man O' War shows it up. It 3-shots Florence with red lightning. Fortunately it dies/shoots someone else after she goes down.
And the last enemy was a car crab.
Note to self: Jellyfish use red lightning from medium range. Heavy armor doesn't seem to do much against that kind of attack....or maybe it just has a very high attack? I don't want to find out.
Boy, this story is getting good.
Well, we have to search out the friendly surviving Reticulans on Earth. Great....
I can just imagine the troops getting pissed.
Next topic of research: BETTER GUNZ
Found the Old Grays...now to send a chopper to India...
-
Oh hey, been awhile. Let's continue saving humanity.
Previously, radar was only really able to detect UFOs that were well within base interception range. With this tech, we can now take the fight to UFOs that are really far away.
I hope this tech will give us something good. From experience, the Reticulans are a lot more fragile than the troops.
I must've been really lucky when I took that battleship down. It's supposedly the most dangerous craft out there.
Let's try these babies out.
Dammit, the Council of Earth is really getting aggressive. I just want to sit back and do research and manufacture gear!
Accurate burst fire? Hell yes.
Would be nice if we had Dr. Vahlen or Dr. Shen narrating the research notes. 2K games originally planned for them to be a previously married couple in the XCOM series.
Time to explore shit and hey look that thing is cute.
Killing things offscreen is the best feeling.
Man I'm so fucking proud of the squad.
I have no clue where I am in the game right now, so I suppose let's go assault yet another base. I kind of miss the terror missions from XCOM, but then again this is a bleak setting where there's no civilians for terror missions.
This sounds like good news.
This might help.
Incredibly light armor, but the protection is pretty low.
Well then, the Transgenants are just failed science experiments run amok. Nice.
Time to scout and expand. A car crab greets our arrival.
Plasma Shotgun damage is rather low...
Grenade Launcher arcing over obstacles is a godsend.
Before, switching between a SMG and heavy weapon made Dick a liability. Now he carries the team.
Shit, should've manufactured more ammo.
Regardless, we must press onwards. Brian is pretty handy with the Psi Crusher. Just gotta be more careful from now.
The Plasma Shotgun's inability to deal massive damage is a major disappointment. Will definitely revert back to Malcolm's original gun.
This looks awesome.
This looks horrible.
That does not look natural.
And it's approaching the base. Uh oh....
So it's a flamethrower tick. okay.
A new sniper rifle, but the current ones being used are superior.
FLAMETHROWERS HELL YEA
Let's test out the Heavy Armor
Oh dear. Bad line of sight. Heavy Armor also restricts the user to awkward walking and they can't crouch.
But fortunately everyone walked up to the hill in time and began shooting the local wildlife.
>Vegetation: Biomass
This might be interesting.
Sun Armor >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Basic Alien Armor and it's still light.
I just hope it's not ugly.
Shit.
I don't see biomass, unless you count the strange water.
And a bloody Deathbellow, but good thing long-range attacks can kill them.
Spot a target, get Dick to arc his grenade launcher.
Somehow Dick didn't get counted in for the building mop up, but fortunately he reappeared in the chopper.
THIS BIOMASS NEEDS TO BE STOPPED.
Apparently I need to do a mission in biomass and then take a sample. A sample is automatically taken when a mission is performed in biomass-ridden areas but unfortunately it says I don't have a sample. Shit!
A speedy Malcolm is much better than a slow Malcolm. He's a shotgunner after all.
Oh shit, the Reticulans were fielding advanced weaponry and I didn't know it.
I can't think of anything else better than the grenade launcher. In the time that it takes to switch weapons, it would've put out more DPS than a one-shot, high explosive rocket.
I'm debating whether I should just give the front line troops Enhanced Combat Armor or Heavy Armor. I mean, having some speed would make retreating easier, and in a game like this sometimes you really do need to retreat.
The human version of the laser rifle trumps the alien version in all aspects. Weight isn't a problem.
UGLY
Time to train up a new guy.
What is this
What is that
Where am I
It turns into a little spiky ball when dead.
It shoots things but otherwise is another run-of-the-mill monster, just tall and imposing.
And then there's that black thing called a jammer.
It doesn't attack, so it gets roasted.
This does make me wonder how the pilot didn't die in the middle of all that territory and wildlife.
Where's my sample!?
Ah, turns out you won't get the items you need until the chopper actually lands. Makes sense.
Not again...
Sweet.
More to come...soon.
-
Decided to go let off steam with Nintendo characters.
-
As Popsicle Pete would say, truly noone is safe.
Last time we were defending a base again with only 4 people.
I just noticed there are different colored shields. The yellow ones seem to be able to take quite a beating
Looks like aliens can't open doors, so they all ended up funneling through this hallway.
Burn it, I say.
Nevermind, that guy came up from behind.
Only 1 level up. I seem to really like making balanced, smart characters. Intelligence seems to really help troops in hitting aliens for max damage.
I like the influx of recruits with good stats.
Now we can use Psi Weapons, though I haven't really cheked who has good Psi.
Car Crabs are mutant hermit crabs. Nice.
Where aliens use Psi Weapons to stun at short range, humans turn them into damaging weapons that are small and pack a reasonable range.
Hm, I haven't seen that gun before. It looks awesome as hell.
Not delegating this one.
Plasma Principles...hmm...
These Psionic helmets take 3 days to produce...holy shit. I hope they're worth it.
And back to the UFO recon. We started right next to the UFO, so we can skip that stage. Hooray.
Once again, splitting the squad in half lets us avoid getting stuck in one rom with poor line of sight.
Dick's Striker Grenade Launcher is the best.
Alien behind a corner that he couldn't see? AOE that shit.
Alien that he can see? Blow it to bits.
Always shoot the bastard with the plasma launcher. Those things can quickly kill entire squads that are bunched together on tiny hallways.
Dick can surely run faster.
Brian the medic gets a Psi Crusher because while the 5-Seven pistol is cool, it really has poor accuracy.
Time to check out the Glossary for new entries.
STOP ATTACKING MY BASES
Malcom lures everyone into the corridor of death and that's how this mission ends
Level ups for the meatshields
Must keep downing UFOs
Hooray, we can make our own plasma weapons.
Okay.
Okay, let's go.
Step 1: Crouch
Step 2: Wait
Step 3: Kill fucking everything.
This reminds me of Cordyceps
I think it's time we get some better armor.
I like how the squad went from guys who had trouble killing Morelmen to an actual group of veterans who can bring down most targets from a good distance. That Psi Crusher really does a number on armored targets.
And I think that won't last long, the game is bound to throw something worse at me.
I wonder what the level cap is.
These mission locations are starting to be really random.
Oh shit
Either battleships suck or I got really lucky.
Neat.
Floating bladder. Nice.
Skipped a boring mission, we finished a plasma rifle so now we can make plasma shotguns.
Yes, I'm pretty much burning through autopsies.
The transgenants are all just experiments.
The Flapper report is just sad.
Make the enemy's your own.
-
Dun dun duuuuuun
Previously on this LP the squad had entered the alien base.
For time's sake and to cover each other's corners, they split into two fireteams.
And are those the remains of some poor dissected human?
Not sure what this junk is, but these Reticulans sure are going down quickly.
That's a long range stunner you got there.
Shame that I've got 4 trained soldiers pulverizing your sorry ass.
Dick manages to get paralyzed. He won't respond to orders and medikits won't do anything. Nothing to do but stay put and wait for him to recover.
This mission was alright.
Training for everyone!
Another base defense? Jeez...
There is much to learn from the alien UFOs.
Fortunately the squaddies started off rather close to each other, and that's comforting.
BURN AND DIE, ASSHOLES
Incendiary grenades are a good way to burn things that are out of your line of sight.
Plasma Launchers at close range OP and these special grenades can't be thrown very far despite the guys having "Very Good" in the Throwing stat. Ah well, they are rather OP.
The green gas is the acid grenade.
Some level ups around.
Brian improves strength so one day he can carry more medikits.
Chan and Peter improve Willpower to be better meatshields.
Betty improves Agility so she doesn't run like a regular person walks.
Nice details.
Next project: Adapting the Psi weapons for our use.
Whut
Right, why am I taking these low-level missions? Capture this, recon that...
Oh hey that's a new enemy. SHOOT IT, EVERYONE
Hey what's that swarm of---OH HOLY SHIT IT SEBASTIAN AND PETER BOTH GOT 2-SHOTTED WHAT THE FUCKING FUCK
Damn thing is tough too. Managed to kill it (it doesn't get incapacitated from severe wounds) before it could launch more bugs.
It's called a Deathbellows...and well it brought death to the squad.
I like how the rest of the transgenants just die so easily.
After running around for awhile, the bugs are actually quite slow if you keep running. They don't follow the target.
And sniper rifles still outrange the fat shits.
Unfortuntely we had to take things slowly because Sharon shot all her ammo and Wolfgang's the only guy left with good range.
RPG range is pretty crap too, just a little short of rifle range.
Or maybe the G3 is just an awesome gun.
Well, at least the bright side is that I didn't lose really good squad members and less squad members = more exp for each participant.
Hopefully we can take down enemy UFOs more reliably.
Neat.
Argh, so it's like a living bug dispenser that ignores armor and kills in 2 hits.
This would probably allow me so spam fighters at the UFOs...
And I like how the upgrades show on the jet fighter interface.
Being one of the few guys with decent Psi Power, Brian gets a stunner.
Forced symbiosis? Nice.
People die but there's no shortage of volunteers, it seems.
Heroic intelligence means dedicated medic.
Can replace Brian, but her combat skills are shit.
Time to expand once again.
Talk about conquering the ghetto.
What the hell is that thing? I've got one behind the squad's spawn point, and a fuckton of slimethrowers and car crabs in the front.
Crabs that shoot electricity...how nice....
Fortunately they're not impervious to bullets, though they are resistant.
Moderately heavy injuries, but we'll get through it. Everyone has a medikit or 2 for a reason.
And right when you thought you got out of the frying pan, it's time to go into the fire.
There wasn't a lot of room outside the gate so the only way to get everyone through without the pathfinding AI screwing up was to charge in and toss grenades.
The situation didn't look too good, plenty of squaddies got knocked out and poor Brian used up all the medikits so Sharon and even Malcolm had to play medic at some point.
I really liked the FiveSeven pistol shot sound. It's like 5 rounds rapid.
Fortunately, the base only had a few low level transgenants and so all was well.
Everyone had to be sent to the hospital afterwards though.
Everyone needs a boost in Willpower for that HP.
New guy named Joe. High stats all around.
Hey look new weapons.
But I don't know if I want them over the other ones...except for the sniper rifle.
The really love attacking our bases, don't they?
Well, that's all for tonight!
-
And the squad returns for more action-packed combat
More equipment is always good, and we are expanding at a healthy pace...I hope.
Havana is a good location for a military base, so Managua will be a new engineering base.
How many UFO types are there?
Base assault what
Also our fighters are taking a heavy beating
Missions that have a high urgency will eventually be attempted (and probably completed) by the Council of Earth. It really conveys the feeling that you are part of a bigger movement, but at the same time it's also a way for the developers to advance the story even if the player doesn't want to.
Oh yeah baby
Let's peruse the glossary for info on new equipment.
Wot
[Conspiracy Theory Intensifies]
Next project, Alien Containment.
The chopper arrives at the base that needs defending.
For some reason the squad is scattered throughout the base. The first order of operations is to group up and mop up.
And it has finally occurred to me that 1-handed handguns do have a use. The left hand can be used to hold a grenade or medikit, aloowing for MUCH faster switching in combat.
Malcolm is dedicated pointman. He is utterly based.
Holy shit, they must've heard the noise. They're coming from everywhere
>Malcolm is hurt
>Send Malcolm to hide
>Malcolm finds more enemies
>Malcolm one-shots alien scum like a boss
That was a risky move. 2 Plasma Launcher takes Malcolm's health down but he manages to kill the guy with that shotgun.
LEVEL UPS
Malcolm gets better perception
Jaya gets better willpower just cause
Wolfgang goes to school
I like the guy who wrote the research notes
Added some new people to the squad. They need exp too.
Plectons are nasty pieces of work
What kind of wildlife are these
That's one ugly piece of shit
Make that two.
Fortunately I kill them before I find out what they can do in combat.
PILOT GET OUT OF THERE
Dick gets a new toy
Our troops will have to go into a very cold place
Well then
Use fire
Right, I should figure out how to get into UFOs
New squad member. With any luck, he'll be a good pointman/rifleman/meatshield.
Now UFO missions will be 2-part!
We can use them but we haven't studied them
So snowy.
FORMATION CHARGE
Also Dick quit dicking around with that plasma launcher
He keeps missing.
They sure fit a lot of Reticulans in one UFO
OH SHIT BLUE LASER THAT IS NEW AND THAT IS BAD
Sharon must retreat
3 v 1 is not fair
We'll let the aliens come to us
GRENADES AND MEDKITS AWAY
This was difficult.
Plenty of near death experiences for those involved in the shootout.
Oh my.
>Mummified corpse in Chrysalis
Awesome, this will cut down on travel time considerably.
This explains why our aircraft lose
Hm, it seems I haven't looked up laser weaponry. Looks like they shoot farther and more accurately than ballistic human weapons, but have a lower damage overall.
I surmise that the blue lasers are actually psi stingers. For their capabilities, it's fortunate none of the squaddies have been paralyzed yet.
Alien bases just keep showing up.
I think it's time to upgrade the fighters.
So a Chrysalis is a walking Stunner. okay.
So many reearch subjects, so little time.
Another new recruit who is...well... rather average in all areas. Shows potential.
Time for a base ass---WHOA WHAT AM I LOOKING AT
Line of sight goes to shit on this map
And that's alright because it means sometimes the aliens can't see Malcolm.
More on the way!
-
Good thing sniper rifles outrange plasma rifles.
Dick makes a perfect throw and blows a hole in the double fence.
INTO THE BREACH
FOR EARTH
FOR COMMANDER SHEPARD
Let's go.
This is going to be a horrible way of hiding enemies.
>Run into doorway
OH SHIT WHERE DID YOU COME FROM
OPEN FIRE OPEN FIRE
>run past doorway
>get shot in the back
They're coming from every bloody direction
2 Medikits were used up to keep everyone alive
Reached the cabinet area. Malcolm frags the area behind the doorway to be safe. Managed to injure a Reticulan.
Chan collects the package, and everyone makes it back without further firefights.
A good shotgunner will know how to run fast and dodge well.
Sharon improves her medical skills.
Jaya doesn't seem to be improving much in any area. Hmm...
Dick's Handgun skill seriously needs help.
Wolfgang gets willpower
Interesting...
I thought they were an evolved form of the Morelmen
6 days is a long time.
MORE UFO COMBAT
Missiles lock on and blow shit up
Sebastian shall join the squad as the first user of the laser rifle.
Let's go rescue a pilot.
Trees, trees everywhere! The line of sight is bound to be horrible.
Slimethrowers and Plectons everywhere
Ahhh shit taking heavy fire and heavy damage.
Sharon stows her weapon and whips out the Medikit
Everyone keeps shooting.
Laser rifle is awesome. It doesn't hurt much more than a bullet, perhaps less, but it lets an Rifle user hit with the range and accuracy of a Marksman-type weapon aka Sniper Rifle
Dick switches to the RPG and sends payload flying. It hits hard.
OH SHIT BEHIND US
It was shooting poor Jaya the whole time
RPG AWAY
Damn lasers are incredibly accurate
WHAT IS THAT UGLY THING KILL IT PLS GO AWAY ;__;
STOP SHOOTING ME WITH A PURPLE BEAM
Hot damn. We didn't get to the pilot but we ended up killing everything, which is an automatic victory.
That was intense....
-
I heard it was something resembling a common complaint that the ufo games were simplified compared to the original xcom games. How're you finding them?
I haven't played the original XCOM games, but so far UFO seems to be rather straightforward, though the randomized stats and the amount of weapons does make it more complex compared to the XCOM remake.
I find it kind of fun, especially since there's no end turn. The orders planner is really easy to use though the game sometimes does not tell you how to do certain things.
How nice of the moon to turn red today. I hope it's not the UFO story coming true.
I forgot if I posted pictures of these weapons. At least I have a more accurate SMG that replaces the UZI and FINALLY FUCK YEAH SNIPER RIFLES
Let's get the show on the road.
We must expand south!
Well, a tech that improves autoresolve. Nice.
Next up, LASERS
Hooray..I think this means we can manufacture the ammo type for lasers....?
What sort of armor can we think of now?
The chopper has arrived in that southern area that was once Mexico. Time to kill shit and pacify the region.
These new weapons are really tearing them up.
This is like some fucked up version of Flappy Bird. HA.
This looks like a clump of Cudgels and Morelmen. I'm scared. Or not really, turns out it shoots projectiles like a Slime but not as quickly.
Sniper Rifle OP. Jaya can pick off most enemies (and kite them too) from a fair distance with reasonable accuracy
With the region cleared of some enemies, a location for a base can be found. Now we have to clear out the derelict base itself, like usual.
>SPOREBLOWER
WHAT ARE YOU OH WHY ARE YOU SO FAST
OH SHIT THEY COULDN'T HIT IT IN TIME AND IT EXPLODED
That's a lot of damage.
But good thing there are medikits.
Well no more enemies. Now we have to clear the structure out. Our squad exits the elevator to find more Flappers.
These Morelmen must've been ex-military because they carry bloody assault rifles
But we have the better equipment. Still, it took me a long time to search every room and corridor.
LEVEL UP
Brian is really turning into a godly medic
Jaya maxed out Perception but her Marksmanship is still pretty average. I might need a better sniper soon.
Peter improves his willpower.
Dick gets heroic strength making him THE heavy weapons dude though so far I haven't had him use an explosive because everything gets gunned down before he could even switch weapons.
More new equipment? I'm excited.
Area 51?
Okay.
25 meters? Okay. The grenades are more exciting.
Hey a new guy.
>Awful Intelligence
Well fuck, though he'd be a good sniper. He'll get soldier training to make him combat ready.
Area 51 is available for assault, but I honestly want to take things slowly.
Another new guy? Okay. Sebastian looks like he'd be another good sniper but why the hell does he have AWFUL INTELLIGENCE?
For some reason I give Wolfgang an assault rifle instead of a sniper rifle.
Wow these new recruits are showing up in droves. Betty would be a decent heavy weapons chick. Or maybe not, because that AWFUL INTELLIGENCE is hampering her LAUNCHER SKILL to some degree.
Since I have time to burn I decide to send whoever is qualified for training into training.
The new recruits will do some minor missions that were previously delegated for experience.
Hahaha...I like how the descriptions are so....down to earth. Hold it like this...push this button!
Yes, another recruit shows up. Sharon's Rifle skill is awesome off the bat, and she has potential to be a secondary medic.
Let's have the new guys take care of this.
Improved Armor basically means we can now make a better version of Light Armor. And each Advanced version requires more than a day to build even with 2 engineering bases present. Damn it.
And to the Capture the Transgenant mission!
We start off flanked by a Plecton and a Slimethrower. How much worse can it be? No cover at all!
Not too bad. Our guys can take more than a few hits, and their shooting ability is okay.
We kidnapped the closest Morelman and brought him home.
And yet another new recruit shows up.
Chan is a good rifleman and grenadier, and that's about it.
And we have acid grenades now for some reason. I swear, I've seen all these guns in Call of Duty at some point.
Whoa, a delegated mission is successful
Earthworms mutants. Okay.
>Cudgel
>shy
The enhanced light armor protects better than regular combat armor in some areas, but overall it is a vast improvement over regular light armor. Good for those characters who need to keep their encumberance low without needing to raise strength just to wear heavy armor.
LET'S DO THIS. TO AREA 51
Well, there's a huge compound with a fence and a gate in the corner. I'm just going to assume there are many guards at the gate and it's probably better t to blow a hole in the fence.
6 people couldn't spot the Reticulan.
The little asshole opened fire first AND it's carrying a plasma rifle oh shit it hurts
-
That sure is some eastern european gloom there
Yeah. There seems to be something about Eastern European game aesthetics that just scream gloomyness.
Previously on UFO Aftermath, Brian was sent to training and the squad was sent to a recon mission. A recon mission is what it is. Spot different types of enemies to win the mission. No need to kill them unless you want to overachieve.
What the.. okay.
Eh, we can take them. CHARGE!
The Slimethrower is a rapid fire, inaccurate monster that tosses slime at the squad members. A grenade took it out.
Okay I got overconfident. That last Slime Monster got lucky and severely wounded both Malcolm and Jaya. Rather than risk the odds of having Peter fight it, I end the mission and cheese away death.
With the squad wounded, it's best to delegate missions away.
A new squad member shows up. He's rather unremarkable, but has high base strength which will make him a good heavy weapons user and grenadier.
Well, Twilight and Fall is basically the humans figuring out that the spore attack was engineered and coordinated.
"I guess..."
Very professional.
Another UFO type already? BRING THAT FUCKER DOWN.
I can't see shit with this kind of video feedback, but it appears to be randomized cutscenes showing a round UFO getting its shit blown out the sky by jet fighters.
Yes, it's a 3 v 4 engagement.
Brig 1 UFO down, another shows up...
This terrain seems rather difficult to move in.
Reticu-what?
WE HAVE THE HIGH GROUND, YOU ENERGY SHIELD-WIELDING, LASER PISTOL-TOTING, MUSCULAR-LOOKING ALIEN FREAK.
FUCKING DIE
HA, he didn't die. Maybe this means I get to proceed straight to interrogation?
New items are always welcome.
Well, I'll take this shotgun over the pump action one.
Neat.
Combat Armor...? Okay.
>Night-vision
This could prove useful.
I like how there's glossary entries for UFO types.
Malcolm and Peter get combat armor.
Jayashee gets a combat helmet because she'll be my scout.
DAMMIT.
So it's a corpse controlled by a parasite?
Maybe this will help with keeping captured Reticulans alive.
Oh hey, a CLEAR video footage where ab Observer gets blown out the sky.
No new missions in 23 hours, so here's the Alien Autopsy results.
I want to adapt the laser weapons to human hands. Maybe this will help me.
Let's look at the fallen Observer.
After a lot of walking around, finally came across the bastards.
One shotgun hit at close range was enough to kill them despite the energy shields.
Level ups!
Brian focuses on being fast.
Peter improves his awful willpower.
Malcom finally gets a new shotgun.
Jaya gets a rifle because she's now good with them.
I heard expanding isn't too good because the aliens start bringing in heavy weaponry. We'll take it slow and research some techs first.
Oh hey, I remember this map.
But I don't remember these enemies.
Malcolm just oneshots everything.
It's probably a bad decision to split up but I'm impatient.
2 v 3. MOTHERFUCKERS
Malcolm shoots
1 Morelman dies.
Brian switches to burst fire and sprays
1 Morelman dies
1 Morelman shoots
Doesn't do shit
Malcom shoots again
1 Morelman dies
Malcolm is actually kind of fast now that he had Soldier training. He gets a boost to Perception. I think I'll make him the new scout. Makes more sense anyways since I'm building Jaya to be a good sniper.
Dick gets more Strength.
I hope I get sniper rifles soon.
-
The search for answers continues!
The glossary is a place to look at weapons and other equipment and technical information about them.
A capture mission already? No tasers?
All these missions popping up
Well, time to bring home a live one.
Chompers actually charge very quickly. Good thing shotguns put them down rather quickly.
Malcolm draws fire. Ordered him to kneel down and take cover while Brian attempts to wound the transgenants, but not kill them.
Nice.
>Thrust
For an eastern european company, their spelling is pretty good.
I'm sorry Brian, but you'll be lifting that thing.
Desert Eagle?
Coo.
Brian levels up, and I decide to improve his Dexterity.
New items!
In this game, you don't order new recruits. They randomly show up.
Poor stats all around, but has good eyes and reflexes.
I didn't know we had Light Armor available. Well our new recruit is so bad she couldn't qualify fr any training, so her only way to improve is to be sent to the front.
Next mission: Blow something up.
They lok like 40K Imperial Guardsmen with helmets on.
Nothing much going on aside from the random Chomper or Morelman.
Jayashree has a funny Indian accent
Can't shoot it, but a grenade did the trick.
So many guns, but some are clearly better than others.
Time to do recon and clear out a place for a base.
Peter is back from his military training, and he's now #4 with a shotgun.
I'm not that great in spacing out my guys.
>DANGLEFLY
That's...new
These motherfuckers have to die, and I'll just let them float into the killzone.
GO GO GO
Fucking dark, man.
>CUDGEL
It's like a buffer version of Morelman.
After a long search through the entire facility, I eliminatedd 4 of them.
Brian further improves his dexterity. I'm thinking of making him a medic/sniper in the future.
I have no idea what I want to make Jayashree into.
Oh yeah now we have space for a research facility and new items.
Fuck yeah, an assault rifle and a RPG
Brian is sent to training.
I don't have time to wait but oh well...
KILL THE OBSERVER
-
I've seen these around steam, though I haven't heard much more about any of them than "bigger tech tree than XCOM," IIRC? Great to see you're making another playthrough regardless, skiitari/IGdood! I'll be watching/reading.
Thanks for the support, Rehab!
LET'S DO THIS
>Tutorial mission
Okay sure.
>Tutorial mission
Okay sure.
I'll spare you the details and summarize it later.
So we have been chosen to be Phoenix Squad, the spearhead of humanity. We're not the only squad available, of course. But we are supposedly the best.
We've got 3 guys.
Malcolm has a shotgun and a medikit. He's a decent combatant.
Here's a description of the Skills
Skills are affected by the Attributes of a Squad Member.
COMBAT SKILLS - Proficiencies with various weapons
Marksmanship - Sniper rifle
Rifles - Assault rifles, carbines, etc.
Handguns - Submachine Guns
Launchers - Bazookas, HEAVY WEAPONS
Throwing - Grenades.
DEFENSE SKILLS - Ability to not die.
Psi Power - Psionic resistance
Hit Points - Health
Speed - Movement speed, useful as everything is in real time with pausing like Baldur's Gate
Dodging - Ability to not get hit.
DETECTION SKILLS - Relevant to fog of war and getting the first shot.
OBSERVATION - Ability to figure out that the thing you're looking at is hostile. Good for spotting targets.
STEALTH - Ability to not be seen.
OTHER SKILLS
Aliens - Knowledge of aliens and how to hit them where it hurts.
Medical - Ability to heal
Capacity - Ability to carry more without getting encumbered and slowed down. When a person's Load exceeds 100% he/she starts getting penalties.
And I can't change names, but I can change callsigns.
Here's the Professions page. If a squad member's base attributes meet a requirement, he/she can go into further training to raise existing skills.
However, if a skill has been raised once, subsequent training in a group of skills will only improve skills that have not been improved before.
During training, the squad member cannot participate in missions.
Attributes are the base stats of a squad member. The player selects which one to raise every time the squad member levels up.
Improving an attribute improves related skills.
Strength - Launchers and capacity
Agility - Rifles and speed
Dexterity - Handguns and dodging
Willpower - Psi and marksmanship
Intelligence - Alien and medical
Perception - Observation and Stealth
Malcolm seems alright in all areas. He also has a heavy Southern drawl.
Brian's a smart guy, but his lack of strength is worrying.
He speaks with a Californian accent.
Peter seems alright, but his lack of Willpower means he will never be a sniper.
He didn't appear in the tutorial.
Not knowing why shit happened must suck. All these deaths and no explanation. Things seem to be much more dire here than in XCOM.
But I don't have the ability to do research.
BUT, at least I have the ability to engineer new technologies.
Holy shit, we don't even have the ability to detect UFOs?
We only have 2 bases in the US at the moment. Military bases are resistant to alien assaults and have the largest zones of influence.
Engineering bases add to the rate of manufacturing and technology development.
There are 3 adjustable speed bars on the strategic map. Missions will pop up as time passes by.
Well, time to kill shit.
Peter won't be joining us because I sent him to Soldier training. Don't want a liability on the field.
Small town terrain and WHOA WHAT THE FUCK IS THAT
IS THAT A DICK STICKING OUT OF ITS ABDOMEN
IT SHOT MALCOLM. WHY DOES THAT FUCKER HAVE A PISTOL ARGH
I like how the game revolves around every new type of enemy you come across.
This is a chomper, and it seems to be a mutated dog.
Well, Morelman goes down easily enough with a shotgun blast or 2 in the chest. It seems that heavy wounds will cause enemies to collapse, but you need to close in to finish the bastard.
I think the 20% chance is per bullet. I have Brian using Aimed Fire mode instead of Burst Fire (spray and pray). Hopefully I can lure the Chomper over without getting the other aliens/transgenants out there to show up.
The numbers in the parantheses are the number of fire orders given to the squad member of the corresponding color.
Always gotta remember to reload. Reloading takes time, and the best way to do it is one tile behind the corner, where the monster does not have direct line of sight and therefore won't go after you. It seems Morelman has not perceived Brian, but knows of Malcolm's presence.
Pop pop motherfuckers drop
>Mission successful
>There's still a chomper
>Realized I forgot to check the mission objectives
Oh, I was only supposed to kill 4.
ANYWAYS, Malcolm levels up and loot appears after the skirmish.
I'm going to try and make Malcolm balanced.
NEXT UP, CAPTURE TIME.
Oh, I forgot to mention what Delegate is. Delegate means you pass the mission on to regular soldiers of humanity, in essence it's autoresolve. There's a greater chance of failure than if the player played out the mission on their own.
This is shaping up to be interesting.
-
Hello all.
Been awhile since I did a Let's Play. Been quite busy with personal matters and other games.
I've got an XCOM itch to scratch, but so far there hasn't been much news in that front, so I went looking for similar games and I found the UFO Trilogy.
The first game is called UFO: Aftermath. Developed by ALTAR interactive and released in 2003, it is basically another take on the XCOM scenario, except more bleak and instead of ending turns, everyone takes a turn simultaneously.
The story is thus: A spaceship rains hell down on Earth via spores. The spores choke and kill most of humanity and upper forms of life on Earth. Only a lucky few survivors remain, and now it is up to the player to figure what the hell happened and if possible, figure out a method for revenge.
While lambasted for being simplified compared to the OLD XCOM and riddled with bugs when it was released, there have been updates to fix it.
I don't know if characters are customizable, but I certainly am interested in going through all 3 games.
I'll start posting after I finish reading the manual, but for the time being here's a screenie of the main menu.
-
PC port when? ;__;
-
Male because male.
Sometimes I get puzzled when female friends refuse to play a game on the grounds that there is no female option and the reason is because "males are disgusting"
-
[spoiler='my thought's on the XCOM story', This the only XCOM game I played though]
I always thought that that the 4th dimensional being or whatever was "beyond" was a/the (g/G)od and he felt rather lonely so he tried raising the ethereal into godhood with him. The ethereal were failures and so the 4th dimensional being tasked the ethereal to raise other species to godhood.
And so the ethereal experimented but, the experimentation made the other species unable to fully ascend since they were "tampered with*". So the new approach was with the humans was to have them develop naturally. Now, the best way to advance a civilization is to war with them, so they did. The humans just evolved way too quickly and killed the ethereal forces. Leaving the humans alone to ascend to godhood in their own way.
*The thin men were tampered with, that is why they cannot use psionics
Well, that is my take on the story.
That's pretty cool.
If they stick with this XCOM game I wonder if they'll do Enemy Beneath (Terror from the Deep remake) and /or Enemy Beyond (4th god, the threat the ethereals were preparing for...etc)
-
NxC is even longer than PxZ because when the enemy attacks you, you have to defend for half a minute straight pressing button combinations and the turn order is dependent on action points and unit speed.
Good thing in PxZ they just show a quick slash.
-
Ch 16 sucks
Ch 23 with Aura rescuing sucks too
Anybody played Namco X Capcom?
-
Hello all.
The end is nigh.
However the earlier SHIV death has been retconned because I booted up the game only to find an autosave from before the SHIV died, which is weird.
Anyways....
Moving on.
It's funny how flamethrowers can panic Ethereals.
Wh-what
Oh, I just need to equip this Psi Suit.
I was torn between choosing PrincessK and Verdant Shade.
If I chose Shade, PrincessK wouldn't...you know... (Don't want to spoil it because there may be people who didn't play yet)
If I chose PrincessK, then I can't finish the final mission with the original 6 guys/girls.
I went with the latter choice.
Every ending needs to have a WHAM moment.
What did she see
All those experiments
11th Hour Superpowers when? PrincessK automatically unlocks the 3rd tier abilities. She goes with Mind Control because that's XCOM, baby!
Let's do this.
Let's end the pain and suffering and send those aliens back to the hell they spawned out of.
The Ethereals liken themselves to gods, uplifting and searching for the ultimate creature with which to mold into the deadliest warrior.
Fuck your shit, Sectoids.
I still remember Golubev's death.
In the Zone and HEAT ammo turns Cyberdiscs into smoking wrecks.
One got a shot off though.
Floaters used to piss me off thanks to their height bonuses granting them increased dodge.
Doesn't matter, everyone's aim is so high.
I wish XCOM had its own "animal units"
Thin Men used to give me nightmares because they always had an ungodly chance of delivering critical hits.
An alien grenade is all you need now.
Mutons a shit. In the Zone from Rikku just kills them. CCS from PrincessK takes care of the berserker.
Sectopods are another story. Sort of.
New one this, new one that...
The more i hear him talk the more I want to punch his lights out.
It's almost sad when you can one shot Muton Elites.
There's that bastard.
The talk of the Ethereals being failures brings up a point I would like to discuss after I post everything.
Time to blow you to shit.
Also, Weir finally resisted mind control.
Taking care of the 2 Muton Elites.
Still have to watch out for the 2 Ethereals and the 1 UberEthereal.
Humanity will never submit. (Also, note where DaigojiExcellen is)
GOD DAMN IT WEIR
Integ survives a Hadouken to the face.
I TOLD YOU I WOULD PUNCH YOUR LIGHTS OUT.
Cap the boss, finish the game.
The Uber Ethereal was the only thing holding the ship together.
The Volunteer (PrincessK) sees what will happen if the current course of events continues.
She must intervene.
She must sacrifice herself and move the ship far from Earth.
A wave of psionic energy knocks our most steadfast heroes into the Skyranger.
;___;
Thanks for reading the LP.
I must ask though....why are there no Seekers and Mechtoids on the Temple Ship?
Ah, now to things I want to discuss.
I don't know if anyone here has played the Bureau (also known as XCOM Declassified), but the story there expands a bit more on this whole Ethereal business.
See, in the Bureau, the ethereals are like ghostlike beings that actually look ethereal. They are also very rare, and there is usually only one of them for each planet. They use their powers to uplift an entire species by bonding with one of them, granting that being immeasurable clarity in tactical command, leadership, and combat ability.
Pictured: What they look like
Some of them are pretty nice, they seek to protect the species of those they have bonded with. Others use entire species as tools.
I have come to the conclusion that the Ethereals in XCOM EW/EU are the "False" Ethereals. They have been cast out, rejected from uplifting albeit granted similar powers by the true Ethereals. They call themselves failures, yet talk about finding the perfect warrior to prepare for what lies beyond.
What does lie beyond?
Another alien threat?
Or perhaps there are actually many different groups of Ethereals that seek to assemble a collection of uplifted species as a sort of gladiatorial army that they will then pit against each other like the different districts from the Hunger Games?
Please offer your thoughts.
-
the last mission awaits... who will go?
what hapens to the lives of those mech soldiers though.. they certaintly can't walk around society without a few looks.
The genes people have it better, but what are the docs going to think when they see titaniium legs? That is going to raise questions. Or will they have special healthcare somewhere else?
I don't know who will go as the volunteer, but the "old guard" definitely will go. You raise good questions, and that is what Ananda Gupta wants us to think as we turn our soldiers into MECs.
As for the last mission, this update does not have it. We're almost there.
The Ethereal must be here. We have new toys too. Snapshot penalty be gone, Rikku has a jetpack!
Hahahaaha! Eat plasma, alien scum!
OH GOD 2 SECTOPODS AND SHIT COVER
GUYS PLEASE STOP MISSING
*STOMP* *STOMP*
FUUUUUUUUU-
That fucker is still standing, and the other Sectopod and Muton in the back aren't making things easier.
Excellen lets off the EMP. DISABLE THAT SUCKER. PAIN IS BETTER THAN DEATH
The death of the disabled Sectopod reveals the Ethereal. No healing for the heroic, we have to keep fighting.
Of course Weir would get mindcontrolled.
Weir fails to kill his friends
Shock 'em. If they don't submit, shock 'em again.
The alien device is ours!
OOh yeaaaah
Weir can use one of these, but I need another ethereal corpse. Vahlen turned the previous one into puree.
Ordering more Firestorms just in case
Wat
Very OP
Since when did you give a shit about risks, Vahlen?
Alright, another chance to kill an Ethereal.
I like how In the Zone RIkku just lets her kill off 2 Sectoids and 1 Mechtoid in a single turn.
Elite Mutons? PSI POWERS UNLEASH followed by Excellen double-tapping = all dead in a single turn
Found the VIP. Time to exact justice.
Reflect this, you shit.
Dammit, another 7 days!?
More toys!
Some UFO landed so we'll send our secondary forces to go take care of it.
I can almost imagine the Tachikoma.
Why are SHIVs cute?
N-no! Not the original!
I like how NOBODY can hit a hovershiv. NOBODY.
HAHAHAHA, fuck you too muton.
DIIIIIIIIEEEEEEE
*reflected*
NOOOOOOOOOOOO
More to come. Happy New Year!
-
Slow update. I blame it on a 3DS and that I got Awakening not too long ago.
PREVIOUSLY WE WERE GETTING FUCKED BY A SECTOPOD
EXPLODING CAR
OH GOD WEIR, NOOOOOO
HEALING MIST DOES NOTHING ON BLEEDING
NO MORE MEDKITS
FUUUUUCK
PrincessK runs up, gets overwatched, survives, and weakens the fucker enough for Petrosino to kill.
There's 2 more mutons hiding out on the map but luckily I get to them just as Weir was about to die.
I seriously am considering gene-modding Weir because if he keeps "dying" like that his will is going to drop so low. I want to give him a Secondary Heart.
I should really make use of SHIVs more often
MEDALS FOR WEIR AND EXCELLEN because they're too valuable
Awww
FUcking Overseer. Looks like I need to collect weapon fragments for that Firestorm.
Repair cost is so high...
ELECTRO PULSE WILL LET ME FACE SECTOPODS WITH EASE (not)
PrincessK gets even more gene mods.
A UFO has landed. Time to harvest weapon fragments.
OVERWATCH SPAM IS KING
>Automatic 4-tile overwatch
>Repairs self for 2 health every turn
I should just field a full squad of SHIVs for shits and giggles.
I heard 6 Hover SHIVS makes the Temple Ship a total cakewalk.
PSI Panic is much better than Mind Control.
Retarded mind control is much better than regular mind control.
A triple Sectoid Commander squad is fucking annoying.
REIN SLAMPAGE IS PROMOTED
Annette Durand is a guaranteed psionic.
More operatives and cash? Mission accepted.
There's snow, and there's insignificant thin men. Gotta find a console in 8 turns and shut it off/destroy it.
A SINGLE BERSERKER MEANS NOTHING TO THE SLAMPAGE
JETBOOT MODULE BEST UPGRADE
Shade will define the true meaning of combat support.
3 new guys rescued
Awww
HERE WE GO
THE MISSION STARTS OFF WITH A DEAD CHRYSALLID
FUCK A SECTOPOD ON A ROOF
After retreating, IT POPS A CORNER
ALloy cannon barely manages to damage it despite PrincessK's special triple shot. Kathleen Ferguson misses both shots despite being at point blank range.
Thank you RNG for not killing either of my assaults.
Other than that, the mission proceeded quite smoothly.
Oh yeaaaa
The presence of Sectopods always troubles me
Until I can just abuse invisibility and use area of effect to kill it without direct line of sight.
So many heavies, so many rockets.
I'm not sure how Excellen manages to shoot through the floor to destroy enemy cover, but I won't question her on such a useful ability.
Shade and co. are moving pretty quickly up the ladder. It's like a promotion every mission.
FUCKING FINALLY
Jaysus.
AWW HOW CUTE
It's like a Tachikoma.
Now to wait for the Overseer UFO to spawn
Shen is happy
Firestorm OP
IGdood presents a Let's Play: The UFO Trilogy - FINISHED IT ALL
in General Gaming
Posted · Edited by IGdood
In this update, the plot becomes slightly clearer.
Emphasis on slightly.
Hopefully, by the time that Weapon Factoy is completed I will have researched some things for it to build.
Or maybe not, 3 days 14 hrs is a very long time.
This sheds some more light on the loss of knowledge and history between the 2 games. At least the Laputians acknowledge it.
I want Rome. I need the basic tech resource.
Light armor pieces built, now some of our guys will look like actual troops instead of space crewmen levied to grab a weapon.
Fortunately for us, there are provinces controlled by mindless mutants, ready for conquering.
Sometimes the men will notify the player of sounds coming through the wall. That's better than needing to have a direct line of sight.
Also, Muckstars are annoying balls of electricity. Gagan puts headache pills into them.
Flatsters remind me of the Pokemon Stunfisk. They're flat, and they shock you.
It's funny that captured monsters will follow the player's move orders.
Psionics? You'd think they'd show up later in the game, but looks like they might be important.
I want you in my squad. NOW.
GREYS SPOTTED.
DIE ASSHOLES
I like these graphics.
They're BRIGHT
Gagan is out of bullets. He pulls out the ever-reliable knife and guts the closest guy, lasers be damned.
Gagan is a scary mofo.
Apparently psionics are bald females. They're not as cool as that representative we saw.
Time to put that Desert Eagle away, Gagan.
I'm not sure what I'm doing with these level ups.
Damn, found out just now that Career Training options tell you what stats are needed. That's how I should've spent my level ups.
Sweet. We have proper headgear now.
London has been integrated into the Laputian territory.
Building a second Weapons Lab because there's a lot of research to do on weapons.
Cultists? Shit.
The Biomass is apparently still present in some areas.
That looks kind of far.
Researching Earth Folklore gives you this info
Accepted a mission to kill Reticulans for some community, I forgot which.
Those black trails scare me.
"OH SHIT!" David shouted before collapsing. He tried to crawl away, but a second shot knocked him out.
I thought he was dead, but he was just stunned. Looks like the Psi Stunner is back.
I shot the Reticulans with any weapon that can kill, and saved the Stunner for last.
This one's FOOOOR ROOOOOMMMMEEEE!
But first...let's queue up some research.
Can't use it, can't produce the ammo, yeah that's not high on my priority list.
Escort missions can involve a large number of civilians.
Neil's in training, so Betty will be the medic for today.
We have to reach the green tiles.
Shooting wildlife, hurrah.
That was easy.
This is taking forever. I need to make better situational weapons.
Sweet, we can make pistols now.
That's.. a lot of ammo types.
This makes attribute allocation simple.
Cultists are on the diplomacy screen, but I don't think sending them resources will do anything.
Please welcome out squad's first Psionic. Given her stats, I'm thinking of making her into a Commando, perhaps
Can't build an Implant Lab because...base needs a Library first.
That is a LOT of research to do.
It's also a bit ironic that you start with laser weaponry and have to go to kinetics. Then again, in Aftermath Laser Weaponry wasn't the best either. They're accurate but low in damage.
Gonna want sniper rifles next.
Aren't Corsica and Sardinia separate...?
Quite sandy too.
That Psi vision may come in handy, especially indoors.
A derelict Reticulan UFO. Nice.
Blood on the sand, up close and personal.
That Psi Suit looks out of place.
Popping balloons.
Now you tell me!
NEED A SNIPER SOON
Oh shit, base defense time!
