  1. I've already said my piece in this topic, but I'd like to go further and give a full synopsis of points for and against the games being remade. Order will be my most to least likely, but I'll try to remain unbiased as far as points go. FE6: Binding Blade For: This game has several things going in its favor... Roy is the most iconic JP-only Fire Emblem lord by leaps and bounds. He's been in two Smash Bros titles and won 2nd on the CYL popularity poll for Heroes, all without a proper game outside of Japan. Sure the mystery behind him is probably a part of it, but people would be thrilled to see what he's all about. Being the template for the following GBA games, Binding Blade's gameplay will feel very familiar with people who joined when the first game hit the West. Those following games improved upon the UI with more quality of life options and balancing tweaks, and it isn't far-fetched to think those would be included here. And as everyone has discussed before, the director of Echoes has expressed interest in Binding Blade, so if he has a say in it then FE6 has a stronger chance. Against: I can't think of any strong points against it beyond breaking game order or that involve bias. Next. FE4: Genealogy of the Holy War For: I'm putting this one up next because not only did Heroes just recognize it, but it also has several points in its favor. This game is remembered fondly in Japan and remains one of its best sellers to date. It had the original marriage and children system. This was a well-received feature of Awakening (albeit with a few criticisms) and was less warmly received when they repeated it in Fates. Remaking FE4 would arguably be the best way to include children in a "new game" while dodging the controversy. Besides children, the gameplay is unique among the Fire Emblem series in its scale and implementation of certain mechanics. That was one of the draws of SoV: you got to experience a relic of the past without the rust that made playing it cumbersome without emulator features. Against: There are, however, a few things working against it. The story is a touchy subject, with incest being a major plot point and a few other family-unfriendlies like the Child Hunts. Still, Gaiden had its dark moments that were kept in Shadows of Valentia. The gameplay is a double-edged sword. People were not too fond of the faithfulness to SoV's gameplay, and there are wide criticisms about Genealogy's. I'll give an abridged list: the map scale, the item system, and a love system which are very different from what we know of in modern games. There was even a recent discussion on the latter. FE3: Mystery of the Emblem Against: I'm starting with the cons for this one because... It technically already happened. This is arguably the strongest point one would pull against any game to be considered for a remake. For: That said, it's about the only one I can think of. On the other hand... Said remake was JP-only and covers only the latter half of Mystery, while Shadow Dragon covered the first half. The important takeaway is that Marth's saga is technically incomplete outside of Japan. Having been remade once, there's a lot of source material to draw from if they wanted to retread it. Each has a distinct form of gameplay, elements that could be mixed and matched to create a unique experience. FE5: Thracia 776 For: I ranked this lowest but there are a few good things going for it. It was the predecessor to FE6 in that it set the standard for how all following games played up until Awakening. So while it may not be GBA FE it will be fairly recognizable. It has several gameplay mechanics unique or nearly unique to it including capturing, weapon stealing, dismounting, movement stars, and escape maps. Against: There are some glaring issues though... Thracia 776 was originally the series' black sheep after Gaiden, and with Shadows of Valentia out it has taken the mantle itself. It took three years to get proper recognition in Cipher and Heroes representation has been limited to two characters, one of which was not playable. It remains the most obscure game to date. Like FE4, those gameplay differences could create a shock to newer players, and it is not friendly to first-time players at all. The devs could address that though. Thracia 776 is not a standalone story and its events are more strongly tied to Genealogy's than Elibe's duology. Even SoV followed Shadow Dragon despite being less connected than these two. It would be odd to receive this time without getting Genealogy first. I won't cover the other games because the initiative behind the remakes seems to be introducing older treasures to a wider audience that never got to experience them (emulation notwithstanding). FE7: Blazing Blade has the strongest chance out of them because of ties to Binding Blade but as I've said before they are loose ties and base FE7 already exists. Thoughts? Think I missed any points for or against the games?
  2. Part 3 is supposed to be about two sides going to war, with Ike and the Laguz Alliance being on one side and Micaiah and Daien being on the other. Unless Crimea usurped the Greil Mercs' role in providing backup then unit variety would be a serious problem for the LA, which would probably be a joint coalition of Elincia and Skirmir. Instead, I propose cutting some of Ike's Part 3 chapters to make room for additional Daien chapters. As it stands Micaiah only gets 3 out of 14 chapters whereas Ike gets a whopping 10 and Geoffrey gets the last to segue Crimea's involvement into the war. Several of Ike's chapters amount to filler and the plot accompanying them could be relegated to cutscenes. I can think of three chapters that could be given the Urvan: 3-2, 3-5, and 3-8 ( we don't need a lava map in every game) with 3-1 and 3-7 being runners up. Now the Dawn Brigade has 6 chapters to work with and Ike is honestly not losing much by dropping down to 7. As for what they would be about? I'll let the people with writing experience answer this one, but it certainly gives her more spotlight.
  3. Feel a bit upset about it but internally burn it off, or if their argument is weak then silently mock them. The former if people start to bandwagon it though.
  4. Thracia 776 and Radiant Dawn don't even have barebones representation; it's more like an incomplete fossil find. All the other games have substantial representation and story or paralogue chapters dedicated to them; even if they've never had game-specific focuses they don't need one. So I would hope it's one of the two I just mentioned.
  5. Any game that hasn't received a proper localized release would be ideal for a remake, although Thracia 776 seems unlikely without Genealogy. So that leaves Binding Blade or Genealogy as the most likely picks, with Mystery of the Emblem being a distant third. Yes, I am in the camp that considers it plausible since the Archanea saga has never received proper closure outside of Japan. I am also in the camp that finds a dual FE6/7 pack with more intimate connections to be unnecessary. Both stories are fine on their own, we don't need more shoehorned child characters, Lyn doesn't have to resurface twenty years later, and any improvements to Binding Blade's story can be done without involving Blazing Blade. I can't even think of any sour spots that this would fix.
  6. He healed her heart by literally beating the crazy out of it.
  7. I had the same thought actually. Break the bows and arrows into two subsets that you can mix-and-match and the bow becomes a much more interesting weapon type!
  8. I've already given my feedback on this topic but I have another favorite I forgot to mention earlier: FE3 Gazzak. It's just such a meme face.
  9. The growth rates aren't changed but they get a few extra levels. Even then it doesn't amount to much (it's only 1-4 levels) outside of promoted enemies, who are treated as level 20/N.
  10. 1) That's not always true. Many playable Fighters have a pretty high Skill stat and there are some games where the class has good skill, although their bases tend to get sandbagged in games with unbalanced class bases. Skill isn't the most important stat anyway. Besides, bows tend to have a high hit rate, or at least higher than the Hand Axe without WTA. 2) Base E rank is a mean handicap (even in FE8 where most foot classes get auto-D's...) but if you get past that then bows eclipse Hand Axes outside of 1-2 range heavy enemy phases. Steel Bows completely outclass Hand Axes barring no 1-range. Short Axes are also limited to a few games and Tomahawk is rarely buyable, so for most of the game you can only purchase Hand Axes. 3) More reliability, being able to hit sword users, one-shotting fliers, attacking from 3-range via the Longbow... I could go on. And then there's the Warrior's unique traits as a bow user: they have the highest Strength caps and rarely get weighed down by heavier bows. Oh, and the newer games try to nerf Hand Axes to prevent this one-sided exchange.
  11. While my initial pre-release roster anxiety has long since worn off I have mixed feelings about this. On the one hand these are some pretty solid additions outside of the sneak peeks. Azura was predictable, Tharja and Minerva were expected, and it was either Merric or Linde for a SD mage. Olivia is the only real surprise here mainly because she's another sword user. On the other hand, there are still some glaring roster diversity issues. Three of the DLC picks are sword infantry which we already had no shortage of. We have infantry lance users now, but there are still no lance cavalry let alone MALE lance users in sight. There are no bow users outside of Fates, and yes I'm counting Anna here when she's heavily based off Fates' Outlaw!Anna. And we still don't have our damned infantry armor. So yeah I'm reeeeeally hoping we get additional DLC packs after the first wave.
  12. Geek you need to make your art dumps smaller so that this page doesn't take two minutes to load... anyway... Sigurd and Deirdre
  13. Characters would Pokemon gijinka (humanized mons) with classes based on their appearance, types and stats. Growths would also be influenced by stats.
  14. While there are limits to how many people can die, yes. Having enough characters to replenish your roster as you go ensures that people can get through the game without resetting, and if nothing else offers replayability on subsequent playthroughs. Just so long as there's quality to go with the quantity of characters...
  15. Snipers get their Hit bonus and Range +1 replaces their Crit bonus. Otherwise just keep using the speedster stat model and make Bow Knights more strength-oriented instead of speed-based. Longbows are now infantry-locked instead of Archer-locked. This is a buff to all bow infantry, such as Warrior and whatever else IS come up with. Swordmasters and Rogues are merged a la Jugdral's Thief Fighter. Sword-locked, offensive caps closer to SM than Rogue, no Crit bonus, but they have the Avoid bonus and thieving capabilities. Daggers are now a 1-2 range sword subset for infantry. All mounted classes receive a universal 1.5 movement cost over indoor terrain and can't cross certain terrains such as pillars. There, now foot units can reign supreme indoors without dismounting.
  16. Promoted units in older games are treated as being level 20+N regardless of when you promoted them.
  17. A delicious, nutritious and absolutely rejuvenating mixture of sugar, spice, and everything nice. If it didn't taste good then why would Emma top a "Pretty please?" with it?
  18. Story, then gameplay. FE4: More normal villains rather than evil dragons or demons or gods. Base castle with an arena. FE5: Morally grey bandits and other small-time enemies. Weapon stealing. FE6: Multiple nations with a distinct blend of cultures. Smart usage of same-turn and walk-on reinforcements. FE7: Side characters with a bit more presence than their join chapter. Rescue command. FE8: Multiple lords with a distinct path split. Branching promotions with class-innate skills. FE11: Being more open about things that were fair for their day (slavery, child soldiers, etc.). Weapon rank bonuses. FE12: Cheating a bit here, but two-part overarching story where friends and foes get shuffled between them. Promoted classes having a base weapon rank when reclassing. And then there are a few games I haven't played but want certain gameplay elements... FE9: Light magic being a class-specific type that runs off staff rank. FE10: Indoor movement penalties for mounted and flying units. FE13: Dark magic being a class-specific type that runs off tome rank. FE14: The debuff system. FE15: Combat Arts.
  19. Probably something along the lines of "pegasus knights suck"
  20. Please no While Odin, Selena and Laslow are all good characters adding ties to Awakening was wholly unnecessary. If we're going to get a whole new world, it should BE a whole new world.
  21. Probably around the standard range of 25-30 chapters plus paralogues.
  22. Hannibal seems more asexual than gay to me. Anyway I've been following the topic and I agree with what a lot of people have said regarding the love system and the possibility of an Echoes of Genealogy. I don't think the original script is as much an obstacle as people make it out to be; just look at Echoes openly implying slave trade, rape and by extension forced marriages. However, the love system is a three-headed beast that can either make or break the game for a lot of people with how it's implemented. Moreover, the minimal attention Jugdral receives in spite of its popularity suggests that a remake is wishful thinking rather than a reality at this point... extremely vocal wishful thinking.
