  1. I propose that instead of allowing (but frowning upon) widespread RNG abuse, we limit it somewhere between 5-10%.What this means is if something has a chance of 5-10% (or greater) of happening, and you can prove it, RNG abuse is ok. If you don't want to do the calculations to prove the %s, you don't get to abuse. I vote for said limit being held at 10%. I will restart my playthrough of the FE 8 Promo Draft using this guideline (I don't think it affects any of my other playthroughs).
  2. Bullshit. You need the enemy to not hit twice. First three enemy hit chances are 40%=30% true hit (this assumes no critical, if critical [14%], chance of another critical is also 14%, making total chance of both crits occurring ~2%, so we'll ignore that case). The fourth hit chance is 25%=12.75% true hit, (from surviving non-boss enemy of turn 1). Then the chances of the enemy hitting no times or only once is .2786875+3*.1194375+.0437325=~.68%. Multiplying that with the chance of a critical, we get a chance of a 2 turn win being a little under 10%. More later.
  3. Where? I've looked through Drafting Tournaments Explained (Granted, just the OPs, I'm not digging through 93 pages for where it was prohibited) and could not find such a rule. If such a rule exists, and I am just not aware of it, I will gladly take note of it. Oh, and we all know that this thread was caused by my post in DTE, so I might as well try to clarify the point. What annoys me is that certain people are fine with (in FE8) rigging a 2 turn prologue win, but not fine with a similar situation later on. Granted, the situation I encountered was the result of me trying a particular chapter about five different ways (with over 100 smaller variations on each of those ways) to get the result that I needed a 1% crit to get the 4 turn win I was looking for.
  4. Here's a toughie: In the FE 8 Person Promo Draft, I'm forced to try for a 1% crit with Franz to clear a chapter much more quickly than I normally do. I've been RNG abusing with no luck for about half an hour. 1. Is there a way for me to force the crit in a faster way? (just using VBA right now, open to suggestions for other programs) As it turns out, there's a script that lets you see the RNs, which can be found in here Happy dance once it started working! 2. Is it kosher to do so? Debatable, I'm going for it, since I'm determined to LTC this particular draft.
  5. Thanks for confirming, Integ. Progress! Chap 7 14/84 Jagen re-equipped the fire. Xestu the Dark Mage and Dexa the Healer brought to chump. 7. Sorry for double posting, but editting screws up the formatting for me, and I want this up in case my interpretation of the gaiden rule is incorrect. 9. List of errors/comments: Possible crit error? (somehow critted 4 times in Chap 1, but most likely luck) Shon's armor looks too restrictive for his neck, IMO. Chapter Goal of Chap 1 is labeled Seize Throne, yet is defeat enemies... Gordon's text bubble from wrong side at end of Chap 1. Beginning of Chap 3 Siegfried mentions only 3 people on your team, despite having recruited Tamiko. Also, convo at the end of Chap 2 with Kelik could have been interpreted that he was joining your team (make it clearer maybe?). Shuuda seems really OP for Chap 3, maybe nerf him/her a little (also gender id is hard)? IMO, (s)he shouldn't be doubling enemy mercs one level below him/her. I love the improved exp gains for clerics. Maybe it's just me, but 3 javelins+Rapier makes the boss way too easy to kill. Maybe a little buff on Jarod's stats would be nice? Chap 3's goal is defeat enemy, yet you have to seize the castle. "Father, one of the prisoners wish to speak with you." "You're the guy? Who might you be?" Ewwww.... Maybe "Father, one of the prisoners wishes to speak with you." "Hmm? Bring him here"(to Shon)(Shon retrieves Galagar) "Who might you be?"(to Galagar) Kevin takes no damage from anyone but the boss in Chap 4? Really? And can double things? He needs nerfing. I'm really amused by all the houses with annoyed people. Reminds me of Morrowind... At least I wasn't forced to kill off the ballista dude. I can understand short bow having 1-2 range, but a crit bonus as well? maybe remove the bonus? "There's never not enough death"->"Death without just cause is foolish" maybe? Double negatives grind my gears. Haas's left eye seems rather off as compared to his right eye. A monk... named Arthur... I get the feeling his hair should be curly and orange... Wait, why are the Hasan holed up in a castle? Aren't Sacaens supposed to be nomadic? I get that we need a unit to deal with all the mages, but Arthur beating mages is silly. Maybe make him a shaman? Speaking of which, why are there no dark magic users on the list of recruitable characters? I know there is some antagonism against dark magic, but I've always been fond of shamans. I know this is your hack, your rules, but why not include a shaman? Especially right at this point in the game, where it makes sense... I like that we can no longer stand on pillars, feels logical. Marquess Caelin is also called Siegfried, unless I misread text? O_O Does Storm really need so many awesome weapons? How is a door key supposed to make me feel better? (house) Thieves have a crit bonus? Cool. Neither village closes after you visit them. Why doesn't Althares just pick his way into the houses? And his sprite needs to be less Colm-clone-like if I want to remember his name. Also this chapter randomly says, "HI, MEET KILLER WEAPONS!!!!" Difficulty ramping needs work. Prologue-Chap 4 were easy, Chap 5 was decent, and Chap 6 suddenly became rather difficult. (maybe I should have healed before charging into the castle, but still!) Stopping here because I need to do less fun things. Hope this helps with the hack.
  10. So I've downloaded the latest version of the patch, and I know how to ups stuff. The patch contains two ups files. What are the differences between the two? (I assume the DS Version requires something like DeSmuME for it to work Apparently it doesn't work with DeSmuME...) I guess I'll answer this myself. The differences appear to be battle backgrounds, nothing more. (DS Backgrounds are fugly, IMHO) And Blazer answers a moment too soon, lol.
  11. I don't know about your terrible stat gains, but my Jude was able to withstand any crit by any brigand (except maybe the steel axe guy, but that guy's hit % is terrible). Perhaps if you tried to let Jude gain levels in the prologue... You're also not factoring in hit %, which makes it more like .8%.
  12. Oh, I see. I'm far too used to letting my lord take a few hits the first chapter. I will try again...
  13. Considering my first few attempts of this without meatshielding failed around turn 3 or 4 (I've got a frickin' Marth and Jagen solo!) of Chapter 1, please let us meatshield. Then again, the way the rule is written, we are allowed to meatshield Chapter 1 (since all the units in Chapter 1 are in their joining chapter :P). Which then, strictly speaking, means we can use undrafted units for anything in their joining chapter?
  14. So what I've seen in actually trying the hack: 1st Chapter's Fog of War: Why? Frustrated the hell out of me since the goal is listed as defeat all enemies, but you win by seizing the throne. I ran out of vulneraries before I reached the boss in the 1st chapter (even with terrain usage), so either the enemies need to be toned down, or a healer is needed by this point. (the boss was still beatable thanks to ranged attack/rescue shenanigans, but still a pain since the boss had the vulnerary) Also, I'm really annoyed that the enemy had poison weapons when I have no restore staff or antidotes/ ways of curing the poison. How do you throw a wyvern in a dungeon? You should probably give a little more detail on the lord's background, so players won't be pissed off when only 2 of their 6 units from the prologue are available for the rest of the game. This also goes for the prologue's goal. If the player knows the lord and the boss were friendly before the chapter began, players wouldn't be as likely to accidentally cause game overs. Now, as for the argument raging above. The issue is that everyone who assumes the hack is a bad idea is assuming that a crit=a unit's death. Felover3 has taken steps to ensure that this does not happen. (Enemies with higher crit% had low str, those with higher str had low skill, meaning less hit and crit) Your units in chapter 1 start off with enough health and defense to survive a crit, and chapter 1's chokepoints allow your units to only be attacked once, maybe twice per round. The main reason I ever had to restart was I ran out of vulneraries. In summary, the enemy can crit, but Felover3 has ensured that lethal crits are very unlikely (use your vulneraries, and you'll survive). Also, I notice that the people who were arguing with Felover3 in said debate didn't bother to attempt the game for themselves. Don't knock it 'til you've tried it, the game shows a great deal of promise.
