  1. Those books didnt exist when i was in school. I also live in California, so any kind of banning of books was seen as horribly unconstitutional and just not happening. Ive heard of this...weird hostility back in the day about the Harry Potter, in other parts of the US. I never quite got why. Did people think they were evil or something?

Same. I just dont have anything against the Hoshidans. I just simply prefer the Nohr siblings more. Both little sister characters and big brother characters elicit similar feelings from me, however. Since i like Leo more as a middle brother, i lean more Nohr.

  3. Pity theres a region lock cuz id prepare a Corn for ye. Im the Cav or Durgin Rider master.

Yeah there was a reason why people hacked the shit out of things and put Aptitude on every character ever. The way level ups worked, it was just...i dunno mang. Aptitude makes a unit more workable. (bad units like Nyx, it makes them serviceable.) I have Aptitude on everyone i use including the Corn Cob. Again, shame this is Europe Only :( I wanted in on this.

  4. Im so down with platonic Marcia/Keiran and platonic Ike/Elincia. Geoffrey/Bastian also gets me.

I love platonic Florina/Serra so much i die. Platonic Eliwood/Hector is so my jam.

    Chrom/Robin friendship/bromance rocks. Sully/Sumia friendship <33333 I also love Sully/Miriel

    platonic Ryoma/Elise, Nina/Velouria, Forrest/Seigbert, Charlotte/Peri is good shit too.

My dude, i cant believe i almost forgot this one.

  5. Oh sure, when i first played PoR, i interpreted Ike/Soren as totally platonic. But then RD came along and i saw some extra dialogue that is unlockable. It kinda changed my view of the pairing. I do think that even with that, you can still find it platonic and even a bit siblingy. I just dont really see it too much like that anymore. I do feel that Ike is hard aromantic that would only pair with someone he had a deep connection with. Another option i find with Ike is Ranulf. Another one that can be either platonic or not. I lean more on the platonic/"i trust this person and i get this person" kind of relationship for Ike/Ranulf.

As for Elincia, I felt that she had a mild crush on Ike because she assumed she might not see Geoffrey again. But Keiran tells her Geoff is fine, and shes so visibly relieved, that she could fall over. However, the idea of seeing him again seemed almost dim and full of uncertainty. So she tried to connect with Ike. Ike saw her as a friend and a friend only. I think she got that by the time they arrived in Daein. By the time she is reunited with Geoffrey, Elincia is almost having kittens with the idea that shes going to see him again. (was it chapter 24 or something...?) Once Geoff is in the picture indefinitely, Elincia seems to not be seeing Ike as a potential suitor at all, but as a friend and someone she has huge respect for. Thats just...how i always saw it. When RD came along and there was like, no subtext at all between Ike and Elincia, thats when i figured i was on to something.

Yeah, I know. The game says "milk sisters" though. One of them could be a mistake, and I don't know which, but that's all we have.

milk siblings is an old term that means they shared a wet nurse. In the Elincia/Lucia case, they were also raised together, but the term refers to sharing a wet nurse.

Anyway, i like Soren/Ike because it works and Ike reciprocates in a way he does not do with any other character he supports with. While this support/pairing can be interpreted as platonic, it also can be interpreted as romantic because of how Ike responds. In RD, that convo that opens up during Endgame if you transferred an A support from PoR, really has a bunch of subtext in it. (Ike basically holds Soren as he cries in Ike's chest.) Ike just...doesnt have this kind of relationship with any other character.

Micaiah/Sothe only because SHE wants to be with him. I dont like Sothe and think shes better off with Pelleas, but honestly, i am gonna take a character's affections into account here cuz this pairing is not one-sided in the least.

    Eeeh.

I don't really know how to feel. I'm a new fan, really only joining with Awakening, so Fates seemed like a bigger and better version of everything Awakening had given me.

But, really, I've almost exclusively played Birthright since beating the three paths. I really don't care for Conquest's cast half as much as Birthright's, and I leaned that way from the start based on the initial story along with the Japanese fantasy aesthetic. And, I'm in full agreement that Revelations is hot garbage at times. It feels like a happy ending AU by a fanfic writer with little forethought.

But I have put an embarrassing amount of time into this game, and have had a good deal of enjoyment from character breakdowns.

So, I guess I do like the games, but I'm heartily lookimg forward to SoV's formula.

You are literally one of the few people ive seen say they vastly preferred BR and Hoshidan characters over Nohr/Conquest. While i prefer Nohr, i find the dearth between preferences here to be really staggering. Hoshido's characters arent terrible (unless its like, Caeldori and Asugi cuz omg those two...ugh...Azama is hard to deal with too). I just figured they would cater to a demographic that wasnt really me. Yet, here i only know like two people who prefer Hoshido, besides you. Im really trying to figure out just what it is about BR that people are just like "i dont like these characters very much." Cuz i can understand the gameplay preferences. If it were just a bunch of edgelords and gameplay fans who were touting on about how superior Conquest was, that would be one thing, but since thats not the case...color me a little baffled.

Is there a poll option that says "I never finished it, but the quality of the story still haunts me"? Because that's how I feel regarding Fates. I'm still on Conquest Ch.8, Birthright Ch.15, and Revelations Ch. 18, and I could not work up the motivation when I reached those parts to continue. I wanted the story to be decent, but it wasn't. If I could ignore the story like I do with the Diablo series and many other Diablo-like games, I would, but since the game insists on shoving the story in my face, I can't ignore it even if I choose to skip the cutscenes. For a better part of a year, I keep trying to shove the story out of my mind, only for it to come roaring back as I come up with new ways to change and improve it. I am Ahab, and the story has become my White Whale.

I want to be optimistic about SoV, but I'm not. I am not confident that future Fire Emblem games will be good. Fire Emblem is now in the same position as Bioware games for me right now where I fear what's going to happen next (DA:I just wore me down to where I never touched the expansion DLC). I think the developers need to take a good hard look at the Fire Emblem series and decide if they want to continue down this path or tear it down and start again. TBH, I want the tear it down part as I think strategy rpgs are due for an overhaul on how they tell their stories. In a world where the Witcher 3 exists, RPGs can no longer really afford to coast on subpar stories anymore.

Appreciation for this honesty here. But i just want to remind you that SoV is a remake of the second game in the series. And it doesnt look like this is going to be a rumpus room of panty shots and tropes found in ecchi. It looks like a return to form. As for the last sentence, im not sure i agree with that. Witcher 3 was a huge AAA title, and most JRPGs will never see that kind of budget (if they arent named Final Fantasy). Bog-standard may be the best a JRPG can muster. I do feel that stories need to make sense and not be the nonsense we saw in Fates. But i dont think we should be expecting George RR Martin tier type shit out of JRPGs, cuz its likely not gonna happen unfortunately.

Now listen here: Everyone knows the hottest gal in Fire Emblem is Vaida. The scars say it all.

Just kidding. I'm more of a Nephenee person, but isn't Azura kinda like Nephenee with less armor and more fanservice?

Quiet, you. Vaida is unironically attractive.

It just makes me sad that the BR characters were nowhere near as interesting as their Nohr counterparts on the whole because of what great designs they had and whatnot... I'd love for the characters on both sides to have been well-designed AND well-written, but... guess they were stretched too thin for that haha ;; it's a shame

Yeah. Theres only like three or four people in Hoshido that are interesting and three of them are royals. (the fourth being Oboro) I feel like if they took out Hinoka and her squad and replaced them with better written characters and then got rid of the Awakening expies, things would have been a bit better. I do love Orochi and Kagero, but they arent super amazingly written. Saizo kinda is, but he gets really shunted to the side a lot. Im kinda grateful for that chapter in Conquest where you team up with him.

  10. I prefer Conquest overall. Mostly cuz the characters on that route are my faves. Like, Hoshido has some cool guys like Kagero, Orochi, Oboro, Ryoma, Sakura, and stuff. But Conquest has Niles and Odin, Leo, Charlotte, Benny, Camilla, Xan man, and Elise. I also like the Nohr kids better. Ophelia and Forrest being chief among them. So i tend to lean in that direction more. I dont mind Birthright tho.

  11. So its time for me to chime in on me own thread.

Honestly, im still enjoying it. But the thing is, i put the game down for a  long time. I spent most of the first half of 2016 playing Fates and since i had the Special Edition, i didnt have to wait for anything (other than people online gettin' gud skillz lmao) so i just went at it. The story was mediocre to bad, but honestly, i just didnt fucking care cuz i was having a good time playing the game(s) and the characters were enjoyable for me. Coming back to Fates after letting it sit for like 7 months or something, i find that theres still plenty here for me to enjoy. Conquest is my favorite route because of the maps and characters. I dont NEED the story to have fun with it, so i just push start and play the maps. Plus, the visuals and the music are just, yes please. Thing is, my opinion of one of the paths has changed in the past year.

Revelation. Like, at first it was "oh this is a huge cast party wheeeeee look at the love and the togetherness and whatever! Wheeeee" now its like  "I must really consider whether or not its a good idea to play this route." And i often find myself saying that no, it is not worth it. The maps of Revelation are fun first run through, but on subsequent runs, they are tedium incarnate. The final leg of the journey, literally nothing happens. You just have Corn and company chasing this Obviously Not Trustworthy wet shit around Valla for a while. Once thats over, its "oh lets have unnecessary and cheap feels moments with zombie fam members." Ummm...and then all the sudden its GUNTER IS THE MOLE and then battling wannabe Lovecraftian Horror in a weird world. Its just...really bad. Its still fun for min max/optimization reasons and the cast party for pairing Hoshidan peeps with Nohr guys and the hilarity that ensues. But i gotta really think hard and long if i ever want to replay Revelation again.

As for the other two routes, yeah its fine. Ill probably be replaying those hella as the years wear on. Birthright was alright, its story was only mediocre (compared to the bad of the other two. Rev is the worst of the lot tho) and has some ok moments. Plus the uniqueness of the music, visuals, and classes make me wanna to return to it a few times. Conquest is just great fun still.

  12. Nej. Nyet. Nein. This game doesnt need avatars. We have two perfectly good protagonists in Alm and Celica and i dont want their spotlight stolen by some Mary Sue character. This game deserves the remake it got, and therefore the protags deserve the attention they are getting. Amiibos being made of Alm and Celica upon release pretty much tells me that we arent getting an MU anyway. And im pleased with that.

Is it safe to not use Virion?  I'm banning Archers until I get Noire and Morgan.

Yeah its safe. The thing is, he doesnt make for a bad flier or mage. Hes not super essential or anything. (hes my favorite character tho) But there are ways he can contribute without being an archer. Hes not a bad dad cuz he has decent mods to pass down and his class tree isnt rubbish. But its up to you.

  14. So like, Fates has been out for a year in the West. In that year, theres been literal blood, sweat, and tears shed for this game in terms of discussion, acquiring it, and speculation about the future of the series. While FE's future is still a bit uncertain in terms of direction, IS seems pretty dead set on moving on. We didnt get that last wave of DLC for Fates. Other than Cipher cards and those specialty figurines, it seems like theres not much left of promoting Fates. I think that Corrin amiibo just isnt happening at this point. But you never know. What about you? Have you moved on? Do you still play the game and enjoy it? Has your opinions on the game(s), its characters, or anything relating to it changed in the last year? Sock it to me.

That said, I actually DO like Corrin x Camilla as a potential ship if for no other reason than its dark/tragic potential-- though as I've said it's by no means a good or healthy relationship. But I think it COULD be interesting.

Yee, its why my first MU paired with her to begin with. I was headcanoning a bunch of things and was a bit dismayed when the game's supports and pieces of narrative couldnt reflect it. In fact, the personality in which they gave Corrin did NOT match the MU i created. (he was supposed to be a total wet shit raised at Garon's knee. Not some little pacifist that couldnt think of hurting people.)

And i always agreed that marrying Elise is tres hella gross.
