  1. Poor generals their sucky movements it made even worse by the fact that most games are heavily mount focussed. I would make everyone a little less durable and give them back the full weapon triangle control + bows that they had in fe4. The weapon triangle control makes them a little more flexible and people would actually have more reason to use it if other classes weren't so durable. Also is it me or do generals almost always seemed to be getting the shaft somehow. Fe4: Low move is pretty awful in this game. Fe6: All of them have rather depressing stats, face constant weapon triangle disadvantage early game where they should be at their most useful and one of their characters is Wendy. Fe7: Oswin is good enough to carry the class trough the game. Fe8: once a knight promotes they're giving the option to stay a unit with sucky move by going general or gain a horse, full weapon triangle control and still being good enough for the job. Fe9: Dominated by horses. Fe10: Wyverns are basically flying generals with only one minor downside. Ds games: Don't they share their defense cap with paladins in this game? Fe13: Same problem as awakening in the fact that great knight gets a horse, good enough stats for the job and full weapon triangle control.
  2. I like the new forms, but I hope the gen 1 starters won't overshadow the new ones too much. A Venesaur with thick fat and some extra defense sounds pretty nice. Blastoise looks awesome with the arm cannon. Charizard looks...not that different, but drought is a pretty good ability from what I've heard. Also I never played competitively, but why is Ninetales seen as that horrible aside from getting the sun up? Its pretty fast, 100 special defense is pretty nice and its 81 attack should still hurt, considering its fire attacks are boosted. I never used one either so I don't know much about its moveset. Did't it learn a lot of psychic and ghost attacks along with having an instant solar beam with drought up?
  3. Nice to see Fire emblem is finally getting more love. I never really understood why people have some many problems with awakenings balance. You have a few questionable stuff like Avatar being godlike and nostanking, but otherwise it wasn't that bad. I did't see any Wendy's, Lyre's, Fiona's diadora's or Ardens in the game and other games had some glaring imbalance issues with them too. Holy weapons in fe4's gen 2 being an example of that. Even Virion who is among the worst units in the game is still pretty decent (compared to the above characters) and can pull his own weight around in the maingame. I suppose a case could be made for Donny, but unlike previous examples he's supposed to start horrible and is made for grinding purposes.
  4. Aren't outdoor fighters bonuses so small that they are barely relevant? I never really thought about this kind of question before and I like both kinds of maps, but if I had to choose I would choice indoor chapters. It has some of my favourite chapters like Elincia's gambit (that does count as indoors right?), reclaim the capital, Dain arise and retaking the capital. I think that indoors allow for some interesting things that are harder to do in outside maps like chokepoints, completely unstoppable status staves and long range attacks and other things. But my real kind of favourite chapters are boat chapters for some strange reason.
  5. I think Chrom is an ok character. Not good, but certainly not bad either. I'm a little confused that he gets so much flak for being bland, since there are very few lords in fire emblem who aren't bland and I see less complaints about them. As a unit? Uh he's alright, but i'm a bit annoyed at his lack of support options.
  6. I'm not 100% sure it happened this way, but it was sort of like this. Its been a while since it happened. I remember going in the rouges and redeemers 1 dlc a little bit underleveled and I haven't done much skill tweaking. My sage avatar was in trouble for the first time in ages with all those hard hitting tome breaker wielding enemies. Still I had only 3 enemies remaining after a while My avatar only had like 10 hp left when he activated vantage. It was a skill I got on him very early on the game thinking it might be usefull, but I can't remember a situation in the main game where that skill was useful. Anyway Avatar activated vantage and killed 2 enemies (Alvis and Jullius I think) with a critical and he killed Petrine with an attack and a duel strike crit from Chrom.
  7. Wow everyone played a lot. I've got my main game which has been 60 hours. and my second game which i'm currently at 20 hours.
  8. I thought Ricken and Chrom should have had a support. The boy hero worships Chrom, but they barely interact at all. Only a dlc convo. The most you learn about his admiration is in the support with Lissa. Also Basilio's support list could be a little bit less of a wasteland. His right hand man, former rival and dancer are all in the same army he is, but he doesn't talk to them once after they join your party. I guess Yan'fey needs to support his sister as well, but i'm not very interested in seeing one boring and one barely existing character interact.
  9. I liked Hugh the most. When I first saw his design I thought he would be a jerk rival like Blue or Silver, but he's actually a total bro to your character. I thought Blue and silver where a little needlessly antagonistic to your character and I never really cared much for the gen 3 "rivals" and Barry. I think Hugh strikes a nice balance. Being nice, but still a proper rival who likes to test your skill. Its a shame his choice in Pokémon is rather lame.
  10. Barons mostly. Perhaps full weapon triangle control+ bows+ magic makes general-like classes not completely outclassed. I also hope the newer classes from awakening come back.
  11. Uh are you talking about brave weapons? Because I don't recall them being very hard to get at all.
  12. I never saw killer weapons as really overpowered. They are good, but you are still relying on luck to get the most out of them. They where extremely good in the hands of fe6 swordmasters though. Brave weapons depend on the game i'm playing. The gba games (especially 6) did it right. Brave weapons where very powerful, but take the brave axe for example. It has a massive 16 weight attached to it so people will lose speed using it, making sure it isn't entirely without risk. Sword and lances had the same thing to a lesser extend. I thought the con system worked pretty well in balancing the brave weapons a little bit. Brave weapons are completely broken in awakening though. They are easy to get, have no downsides and it makes duel strikes a little too effective in my opinion.
  13. I haven't played enough of fe5 to have much of an opinion on its difficulty, but I thought fe12 was the best when it came to difficulty. Enemies hit hard, dodging isn't very easy and I got the impression that my army wasn't able to just destroy the enemy with easy like in other games.
  14. I thought I was in the minority when I thought that Zelgius wasn't quite as honourable as the game thinks he is. I never bought his excuse for killing Greil either. He wanted to prove that he was better then his teacher I get that, but killing him was kind of unneccesary, especially considering Zelgius knew that Greil was far weaker then he used to be. I kind of like Pelleas and trusting Izuka might not been his brightest moment, but its not that strange that Pelleas believed him. Izuka looks and acts like a total villain, but Pelleas had very little reason to doubt his word. This was the man who got Pelleas out of the orphanage, reunited him with his "mother" and gave him everything he had when we first meet him. And even less spineless and more intelligent figures like Tauroneo seem to trust the Izuka for some strange reason.
  15. But Ricken did care. Its just that he prefers to think of his enemies as evil, because otherwise he wouldn't be able to fight at all. At least that's what I got from the Henry support. And he says this in the Lissa support. "They're trying to kill us out there, Lissa. Kill. Us. And the only thing we can do is kill them first. ...We have to take the lives of people. My hands are shaking just talking about it. It's just so...terrible" I do agree on the Fa part though. Playable characters should at the very least be aware what death. It reflects a little badly on Roy that he lets someone kill dozens of enemies without her even knowing whats going on.
  16. I don't mind kid characters, unless they have an annoying personality. Lugh is among my favorites. However I do like older characters as well (Niime is also among my favorites) and I thought awakening was sorely lacking in middle aged/old characters. I know it was for marriage reason, but still I was missing characters like Marcus, or Niime or other old veteran characters. Even Frederick was quite young.
  17. Should't Gold be the strongest trainer? He does defeat Red in gen 2. I don't remember having much trouble with Red in crystal, but in the remake my team was slaughtered by him. I still had more trouble with Cynthia, but I do think that story wise he's the strongest opponent.
  18. I always liked the old style many places in Johto used and its the place I spended most time in, so they get my vote.
  19. I liked shadow dragon well enough to enjoy my first playtrough, but i'm not in a hurry to try it again. It felt a little outdated and I really disliked the fact that 99% of the characters where either mute or bland. Fe12 is one of my favorites though. Its one of the harder games without making it unfair on you and I liked that they finally gave everyone a personality.
  20. I agree on the movement part. I was always a little confused when fe11 and fe13 gave them a sucky 5 move which is the same kind that generals need to put up with. Archers tend to be light armoured and bows can't be much heavier then other weapons so I don't know how it makes sense. They need higher bases too. Nearly every starting archer has a horrible start which sometimes even growths can't make up for. Also archers have the problem that other classes can do the same job they can, but only better. Mages, javelins and hand axes have the benefit of attacking at range, but they can attack up close too. They did make the trowable weapons weaker in the ds games and awakening, but duel strikes in awakening made the lack of mt less important. Its a shame since I have a soft spot for archers.
  21. I do think mounted units are a little bit too strong. High movement, above average stats and good weapon control. Making their stats a little worse would already help a lot, but more anti horse terrain could also help. Fe10 was a step in the good direction. Mounts (aside from titania) did't really dominate, got penalty to movement when indoors and where locked to 1 weapon type until third tier.
  22. I never really saw her as overly perfect. She's portrayed as a prodigy soldier, but outside of that area she isn't portrayed as being perfect. Yeah she had some other talents like music, but people don't go on and on about that. Her C support with Avatar implies she's a bit of a workaholic and wasn't her entire support with Libra about her calming down a little? Besdides I don't think the praise is that bad. The only characters who overly praise her are Freddy who has a crush on her and Donny and that's because Donny is Donny and I don't recall him being negative to any other character.
  23. Never said there was anything wrong with turning for advice. I merely tried to say that most lords seem to have a thing they specialise in. Marth and Eliwood look like the most compassionate lords. Roy and Ephraim seem to be the smarter lords lords like Hector, Ephraim and Ike seem to be the best as bashing people's heads in. Don't know where I would place Sigurd though.
  24. Usually I never bother with rng abuse because I don't think its worth my time. The only exception was in fe12 with Gordin and Ryan because their bases where just horrible and I needed something till they promoted. Not a whole lot, but just something to make sure they gained some speed once in a while. It helped that the ds emulator was easy to work with multiple save files.
  25. But wasn't Merlinus pretty sucky as an advisor. All I can remember was him sometimes explaining stuff and being rude so Roy had to reign him in. If I recall correctly Roy made a lot of the more smarter decisions himself like exposing that shaman boss and calling in Ertruria to defend Ostia. And Ephraim was fairly successful in fighting Grado on his own even if the strategies he used in game where fairly questionable.
