eclipse
Am I allowed to reclass generics? Say I want my generic shopper to be able to fly, can I reclass them to PK? I've already missed shops in 2 chapters because my shopper couldn't reach the shops in time. Reclassing of generics for any reason is permitted (otherwise, certain generic generals would be near-impossible to kill).
Grithalmur
Chapter 14 - 17/205 Man, when I take things slow, they end up slow. Decided a Thoron tome was nice as well, so I had Marth go the long way. I figured that I could reach the mainland before Palla and the reinforcements showed up. Boy was I wrong. They ended up intercepting him on the narrow stretch of land, waylaying him for a bit. Least it gave me time to improve some guys and get the silver card. Still, Palla joined, effectively completing my army even though Lorenz and Elice are yet to be found, and went right to work with Catria's Killer Lance. As for Jiol, he thought he was all high and mighty, just because Barst was hung up blocking the reinforcements, so Lena decided to shut him up by doubling him with good ol' fire. Also, I like keeping my army together, so I gave Beck the boots. Grithalmur
Chapter 17 - 4/226 Had Barst endure some ranged attacks so that I could nab the Fortify and VIP card from the enemy bishops. Palla introduced the boss to her Dragonpike, and Navarre killed a dragon off to the side to be able to promote. Given the rules, Lena couldn't suppress the urge any longer. On the turn I seized, she ported Julian to the treasure room. However, since I forgot which chest would have been best of the ones that were left (and none looked that desirable, really...) I just had Julian attack the sniper for some XP. Grithalmur
Chapter 18 - 10/236 One of the more annoying chapters, thanks to all the mounted units and reinforcements, usually that is. Apparently, when you're strong enough, blitzing through is a viable and worthwhile option. This also explains why so many people kill Est to get Mercurius, since Marth just can't wait for her to come to him on a speed run. Pretty straightforward, though the boss was being a jerk, having just enough avoid and speed to be troublesome. So I had Lena zap him in the face and suddenly everything was all better. In other news, Macellan made friends with his Killer Bow and Vyland got promoted. I could've easily done this alot faster, but I had to wait so I could recruit Green-Haired God Palla. Jagen and Athena used armorslayers to murder the boss so Marth could seize on turn 9. Abel strayed away from my army and got the silver card. Chapter 15: 5 turns (132 total) Sealed Abel at level 19 and reclassed him to Draco, as well as Jagen. Grithalmur
Chapter 20 - 10/253 For this battle, I needed to make sure I could beat Camus, so I reclassed Navarre to Swordmaster for doubling funtimes. Camus and his legion stood strong, but the team proved too much for him to handle. While Marth went to grab Hammerne, (gonna need it to fix up my Physics,) Navarre, Julian, Lena, and Macellan took the north path. After Beck cleared out the Pachyderm, Julian pulled Camus into the fray. Navarre, using a Starsphere/Mercurius combo, dodged the initial strike and brought him down to low health. In the end, though, it was a freshly promoted Macellan who dealt the finishing blow with a Killer Bow. With Gradivus secured, Caeda convinced Lorenz to move off the gate, and Marth eventually made his way through the forest to seize. Grithalmur
Chapter 22 - 12/270 Oh my god what a chapter this was! It wouldn't have been half as bad if the enemy forces split in half like they're supposed to. But, instead, probably because I had Palla move too far ahead on the right, everything just came barreling down the right side. With Barst, Navarre, and Vyland charging up the left, I had to rely on my other guys to get through this. At least Beck was able to stop the Fortify spam. Lena proved instrumental, having capped Luck and with Julian at her side, she ended up dodging a lot of things that would have killed her, and critted a horseman that would have killed Palla on the turn after since Palla was the only one who could kill the thief and save the village. Whether Falchion will be worth it, I'm not sure, but I know Gotoh will be. Jagen and Lorenz also surprised me a bit. Lorenz, for getting 3 stats on a level, and Jagen, for getting detected by a draco reinforcement but not getting doubled and slain. Phew! To end the map, Palla unleashed some justice revenge on Michalis, and Marth eventually made his way to the gate. Grithalmur
Almost done! Most likely gonna finish today. Chapter 24 - 8/278 OH MY GOD WHY THE POWERFUL DRAGONS WHY? *ahem* So yeah, the manaketes are quite powerful on this chapter, mostly because of them hitting speed cap and lots of attack and defense. Mage dragons being completely immune to magic doesn't help either. Had to restart a few times because Marth tried to take it like a man. Horribly. As for strategy, Vyland, Macellan, Lorenz, Beck, and Jagen took the North Route, Palla took on every ranged unit south of the peak line and distracted the local dragons enough for Navarre, Marth, and Barst to help kill them. Elice used Fortify every chance she could for XP (With Lena Hammerne-ing it before the chapter end,) and Lena helped out where she could. Caeda snuck to the south and bought every last item in the Secret Shop. I may need them to get through this. Passed up Aum because of getting through this chapter quickly. Despite the enemies being tough, it was farily simple and straightforward once I got out of the door. Having Gotoh (meaning his swarm tome and a third Fortify,) helped a lot too. The Medeus fight: Beck Shoots - Miss Navarre attacks with Mercurius, hit, is hit by counter. Recover Navarre to full with 3x Fortify. Medeus heals on throne. Medeus attacks, Hit. Navarre Counters, Crit. Killing Blow: Lena with Swarm. Final stats and words coming up soon. Edited January 14, 2011 by Grithalmur
Grithalmur
Final Turn count according to epilogue: 296 (Wow, must have miscounted here or there.) My thoughts: This was my very first time doing a draft tournament, as well as playing on H2. I don't think I did too bad, but I knew I'd have no hope of winning after my first chapters and seeing the results of Xander's run. I'm more of a cautious player, especially in a game like Shadow Dragon where nearly everything is a sure hit (except for when you miss with 96 hit or something like that.) So I just decided to have fun with it while being in the speed run mindset at the same time. There were still quite a few areas of trouble though, which makes me wonder just how lucky everyone else was in their runs and whether their entire draft survived or not. I had both Beck and Julian to help me in the problem areas, so to the guys without Ballisticians or Thieves... I don't know how you do it. As for the characters: Marth: Decent Lord as always, and his rapier helped very much early, but he fell behind rather quickly in the midgame. If not for the stat-boosters, I'm not sure if he would have been able to do well against the final Manaketes, even with the good Falchion. And Medeus doubling him no matter what at this difficulty and above? Oh boy... Title: Average Altean Jagen: Jagen tried so hard to be useful. He was early on when I had no walls, but once Barst, Navarre, and Vyland gained a few levels his only effectiveness was chip damage and a meatshield. He would have died at one point had he not proc'ed enough speed, but once the speed-capped manaketes showed up, he couldn't do a thing. Title: The one and original Jagen Barst: Barst was just amazing. Once chapter 4 hit and the axe users gave way to lancers, the weapon triangle smiled on Barst's every move. Being the only character with >30 health before promotions went around, he did everything from walling to damaging and being overall awesome. And the hammer helped kill the armors until everyone else got strong enough to take them down too. Title: Godlike Ravager Julian: In my previous runs, Julian's always been one of my favorites. Thief duty means I can actually get around some of the more annoying maps, and he's not too shabby a fighter too. However, he needs quite a bit to be raised, starting at E Swords, but once he can use a Steel Sword without being slowed down, he can only go up from there. Too bad the Arena wasn't to kind to him though... Title: Ninja Lena:This was my first time using Lena as a Mage. Before it was always healbot Lena, which was fine and dandy except I needed more offense on my side. So raising her as a mage helped out a lot, even if I had to rely on vulneraries for healing until she promoted or I caved in and reclassed for a difficult chapter. Since she was my only mage, the secret shop spirit dusts were her friends, and pumped her up from okay to devastating. I mean, she could do actual damage to Medeus with Swarm! And Gharnef was nothing to her. Best part was that, once promoted, both Tome and Staff were at B, allowing her to use nearly everything from that point on. Title: Archsage Medic Navarre: I wasn't sure with Navarre, as I usually go for people who are a little more durable. So I decided to use reclass to my advantage. Raised him as Myrmidon until he had enough speed to double enemies as a Cavalier, then swapped him over. That gave him the skills necessary to become durable enough for the later chapters. After I swapped him back to Swordmaster for the Camus fight, he did well enough that I decided to keep him there, despite some penalties to health, strength, and defence. Also helps that this allowed him to survive against Medeus. Title: Warrior deserving of his in-game Reputation. Vyland: Honestly, I wasn't expecting much from Vyland in the first place. Not as powerful starting-wise as Abel or Cain, not cute like Roshea and lacking Hardin's manliness moustache, so yeah... Still, once he gained a few levels, he surprised me by gaining a few points in defence, quickly becoming one of my strongest walls. Then he gained enough strength to no longer be slowed down by the heavier lances. And then... well, he basically stopped. Kept on getting health and occasional speed but never quite becoming anything stellar. The promotion to paladin helped, but his levels kept being underwhelming, especially once the powerful dragons showed up. Still, he was effective all the way up to those few enemies in the endgame, and he still was able to help out in the end. Title: Slightly-Above-Average Paladin. Macellan: Never used Macellan before, but I decided to take a risk with him. First of all, his speed initially sucks, (armor knight,) and he comes fairly late. Still, I needed a good wall (so I thought at least,) and figured, since generals can use bows in this game... I decided to reclass him to Hunter. Macellan then went on to astound me. Although some levels were complete duds, he nearly capped his speed and even got some strength before promotion. Once promoted, I changed him back to General and he became a stalwart bow-slinging armor who could take hits and not be doubled. Those archery skills helped greatly in the Macedon levels, and he even tanked some manaketes for Vyland who kept getting doubled. In the end, the nature of the run required me to use Arms Scrolls to get him to the point where he could use Parthia, but it was worth it in the end. Title: Big Mac Solid Rock Beck: Ballisticians are pretty awesome, no matter what. My first runthrough, I used Jake, so it was time to see what Beck was made of. He was very helpful, even though I spent the boots on him to allow him to be able to help as much as he could. His hits were never guaranteed unless I used Hoistflamme, but he was able to hit the enemies where it hurts, their medics mostly. Ch. 22 would not have gone so well if the Fortify-ers were still alive and kicking. Only thing though, I didn't realize the only real ballista shop in the game was in Ch. 22, so I really could have used Jake's Arrowspate after all. Heh heh, whoops. Title: Artillery Master Palla: Because she comes at a higher level than Catria, I've ignored Palla before this run. I had no idea what I was missing. Just by keeping her in her initial class, she ends up capping strength and skill in the end after promotion, being a deadly force on wings! While a lot of my guys were okay, few could match the power Palla was packing, even if her speed wasn't as great in the end (the closest were Navarre, Barst, then Macellan.) This secured her rights to Gradivus in the end. Once she had Iote's Shield, the only thing that could stop her were mobs of enemies, but even then, wow! One-shotting Michalis with her was nice too. Title: Scourge of the Skies Lorenz: I wasn't expecting anything from Lorenz. I ended up not using Lorenz very much. Compared to Macellan the reclassed speedy and Meatshield!Horace, Lorenz was very lacking in stats. He did have one thing going for him though: his weapon rank. Not his Lance rank though, everybody who could hold a stick (except for Mac,) had what he had, but it was his Bow rank which made him useful enough. In the Macedon chapters, having a Silver Bow and a decent Strength stat results in dead enemy flyers, which is awesome. He was also able to take some hits, which helped too. However, after the trip to Thabes, his usefulness was reduced to placeholder. He was too weak to do anything significant against the dragons and Macellan took over his duties full-time. Still, having him on the field meant the enemy ballistae in Endgame could be blocked. Title: Just Worthy Enough. Elice: Honestly, Elice fills one purpose and one purpose only on runs like this: using her A rank in Staffs to churn out those Fortify charges. This is actually pretty useful, as anyone who's used Fortify healers would know. With low magic though, she won't be getting much done on her own, so having another one or two to back her up is helpful (Gotoh is just one chapter away.) By the time I got her to level 20 to promote, Medeus was on his last legs. Either way, her healing abilities are much appreciated. Title: Sister Healbot Gotoh: Gotoh's not so useful as himself, but rather the supplies he brings and the fact that he can use them. If you found all the previous Fortify staves, this is #3. If not, then this could be your only one, and everyone around the area will be under heavy fire shortly. His other useful thing is the swarm tome. If you leveled up a crazy-awesome magic user, they can pelt things from far away and actually stand a chance of killing them, (Example, Lena could 1-shot both of Medeus' medics.) If you can use them, Gotoh's gifts are much better than Nagi's in my opinion. Title: Supplier of Awesome (Hope these impressions help with the tier list.) All in all, this was a very fun run, despite my instincts wanting to play things safe which added several turns to my turncount, and bad luck having enemies be annoying on the other end. I hope everyone else had a good time in this tourney and that the next one goes well! eclipse
HOORAY, YOU'RE DONE! CONGRATULATIONS! WHICH MEANS. . . Chapter 19 - 6/171 The name of the game was Keep Marth Alive, and that's what everyone did. Bord and Ogma grabbed the treasure I needed. Hardin went critical crazy, while Merric made himself a wall (at one point, he was at 9 HP. . .and the physical enemies couldn't do squat to him). Minerva killed what she could. Wolf and Horace ran with Marth to offer their healer-cleaning services. I had to wait an extra turn because Marth didn't dodge something. Tiki went after Marth, but he wasn't strong enough to OHKO her. Wolf put her out of her misery. Merric promoted right before I seized. Turn 1 was spent killing a random General, killing the Arrowspate, and creating a wall. I realized Maria would never make it past the Hoistflamme, so I had her run back to her starting position. Once I got the majority of my troops past the bridge, I had my generic generals block it (one of them was a certain redhead. . .) Wolf baited Camus, then Hardin ran in with a Ridersbane to weaken, so Wolf could kill (er. . .actually hit with the Poleax. Even with supports, it was iffy). I guess he picked up on my desperation, because he pulled through nicely! - Wolf: That's about average, save for Speed (which is a touch high). He's a sexy axe-wielding Hero (now if only he had Sedgar's amazing personality. . .) - Hardin: He went just a little above average, rather than going totally berserk. Her stint as a Mage helped her Magic, which in turn ensured my team's survival during Endgame. - Minerva: Useful Flying Hammer User for midgame, but her stats didn't keep up with everyone else, so I had her go Sniper. Random Longbow interjections helped. - Horace: Awesome bases, bad growths. This meant he was able to stay useful for most of the game. He was more frail than Minerva! - Ymir: Though I leveled him all of twice, I was impressed with what I got. I'm not objecting to another high-level axe Hero! eclipse
I'm not motivated enough to do my FE9 draft yet. . .so I'll do hithere1's run. Changes to this run: 1. I will only post turn counts. 2. This run is to close this draft, so it won't count towards winning. 3. My first turn count will be 16 turns at minimum. 4. The Law of Screwing Around - If I don't take this seriously, Marth WTFPWNS everything. 5. Screw my usual Endgame strategy; with this team, it would be downright unfair. Total: 220 turns Chapter 1 - 16 turns (really) Chapter 2 - 15 turns Chapter 3 - 12 turns (Abel had 11 Speed at level 6) Chapter 4 - 11 turns Chapter 5 - 7 turns Chapter 6 - 13 turns (stupid boss) Chapter 6x - 20 (Marth, Abel, and Cord are insane. This feels like Normal) Chapter 7 - 12 turns (screw-up) Chapter 8 - 7 turns (Cord and Castor hit C axes, albeit a little too late) Chapter 9 - 6 turns, no Jeorge Chapter 10 - 10 turns Chapter 11 - 13 turns (dammit Roger!) Chapter 12 - 10 turns Chapter 12x - 17 turns Chapter 13 - 5 turns Chapter 14 - 7 turns Chapter 15 - 5 turns Chapter 16 - 10 turns (ran out of Door Keys) Chapter 17 - 3 turns Chapter 17x - 20 turns Chapter 18 - 10 turns (Est cost me two turns) Chapter 19 - 7 turns (had to delay because Marth and Abel were in danger of dying) Chapter 20 - 6 turns Chapter 20x - 18 turns Chapter 21 - 4 turns (extra turn to go shopping) Chapter 22 - 7 turns Chapter 23 - 7 turns (see note 1) Chapter 24 - 4 turns Chapter 24x - 20 turns Endgame - 13 turns (see note 2) Note 1: It's extremely hard to pull this kind of turn count, unless the real Gharnef is not at the top of the stairs, and you have a Paladin with crazy stats like this: Name Class Level HP STR MAG SKL SPD LUK DEF RES Abel Paladin 16.17 46 21 1 27 24 16 14 6 Note 2: Nagi killed Medeus, and Boah died by Pachyderm. This chapter did not go according to plan. Edited January 22, 2011 by eclipse
ThatGuyDownTheStreet
So with a new year, comes new year resolutions. One of my resolutions is to finish any FE draft I have not finished yet. This is one of them. I decided to completely restart since I don't have this particular file any more. Chapter 1: (11/11) Abel, Marth, and Jagen rush to the castle, while stopping at the forts to heal. Couldn't recruit Wrys since the Thief got away. Used 9 uses of the Silver Lance. Caeda is my shopper. Chapter 2: (10/21) Rushed and blocked the bridges with my team. Recruited Castor. Had a bunch of people meatshield and then killed off. Got the village. Did some shopping. Killed the boss with Jagen and Abel. Chapter 3: (9/30) Rushed with team and took out the first wave of enemies guarding the castle thing. Recruited Navarre for his Killing Edge. Darros meatshielded, but surprisingly didn't die. Jagen + Abel + Castor= Boss is dead. Didn't shop this chapter. 4 uses of the Silver Lance left. Name Class Level HP STR MAG SKL SPD LUK DEF RES Weapon Marth Lord 3.91 20 6 0 4 9 8 8 0 Sword D Abel Cavalier 6.75 22 8 0 10 8 3 9 0 Sword D Lance D Jagen Paladin 3.33 23 7 1 11 8 1 9 6 Sword D Lance B Cord Fighter 4.27 22 7 0 5 10 5 5 0 Axe E Castor Hunter 4.47 21 7 0 3 7 3 4 0 Bow D Caeda Shopper Also, one thing I'd like to ask. So for meatshielding, is it okay if the person is unequipped, and that person is distracting a few enemies while the main group gets away? Since the term meatshielding almost sounds like the person has to block the main opposing force and the way I used my meatshields was that I left behind so that the enemies behind my main army so that they would just attack the meatshields and my main army would get away. If it is the case that I'm not allowed to do that, then I'm going to have to add a few turns to my turn count. Edit: Yeah, I'm still bad at code tags. I'll try to fix it. eclipse
As long as your meatshields aren't hitting the enemy back/using any sort of active action (like staves), it's all good.
ThatGuyDownTheStreet
As long as your meatshields aren't hitting the enemy back/using any sort of active action (like staves), it's all good. Oh okay, sounds good. I'll probably use meatshields more now.
ThatGuyDownTheStreet
Chapter 4: (9/39) Brought who I currently have in my team, Caeda, Lena, and two replacements I got. Reclassed Jeigan to Bishop, Cord to Mercenary, Lena to Pegasus Knight, and the replacements to Cavalier and Mercenary. Bought some stuff with Caeda, mostly Steel Weapons. Recruited Matthis with Lena to make things easier. Lena, Matthis, and the replacements all died as meatshields. Boss was pretty easy since Jeigan landed a critical hit with his Fire tome along with the Rapier's Weapon Effectiveness. I'd like to ask though, is blocking archers with meathshields not allowed? Since I can see why a special rule might be made for it, but at the same time it doesn't actually go against anything that I'm aware of. I did this twice to make things easier, but I'll add the penalty if necessary. Chapter 5: (6/45) Simplistic chapter. Basically went the shortest land route. Used the Wolfguard as meatshields. Did a combination of attacks to kill the boss. Chapter 6: (12/57) Somewhat hard chapter. I brought everyone except Julian and Caeda to this chapter. The meatshields ended up dying to the enemies since I just had my normal team escape them. Got the Armourslayer, and used it to kill the boss. ThatGuyDownTheStreet
Chapter 6x: (10) Got Athena. Trained people up. Not much to say. Chapter 7: (7/64) Hard chapter IMO. Reclassed Jagen to Swordmaster and Cord to Fighter. Had Jagen, Athena, and Marth rush down to the boss. When things got tough, Abel, Castor, and Cord got out of the central section as fast as they could. Killed the boss with Athena and Marth. The Cavalier Reinforcements definitely did a lot of damage. Didn't recruit Bantu. Meatshields died. Chapter 8: (6/70) Basically more rushing to the boss. Reclassed Jagen to Paladin and Cord to Mercenary. I did not provoke the Horsemen which made things easier. Kept Caesar and Radd alive. Some of my meathshields were able to live. Recruited Roger. Killed the boss with Athena. Only had time to buy the Rapier and 2 Steel Swords. Chapter 9: (6/76) Brought everyone except Caeda. Reclassed Jagen to Sage and Roger to Hunter. Got the Bullion (M) and Goddess Icon with Roger. Did not get Jeorge. Rushed down to the boss. Mostly used ranged attacks to take on the boss and then Cord finished him off. Most meatshields survived. Chapter 10: (10/86) Did not go through the castle. Made things easier by going through the side. Bought some Javelins and Vulneraries. Got the Master Seal and Levin Sword. Took the boss down with Marth. No Meathshields died this chapter. Team: BTW, just curious, is there anything against areans? I've been looking around and I don't see anything against them, but I have a feeling there's some limitation with them.

ThatGuyDownTheStreet
Other than adding to your turncount, there isn't. Do you mean I will take a turn penalty or do you mean that as a result of using the arena, I will add to my turn count? If it is the latter, I only plan on training Roger a bit so he can get his Bow rank up and get some levels.
Integrity
It's the latter.
