Mum got some slippers, those really amazing fleece socks, and a new stylus pack for her iPad.

My brother got a bottle of raspberry mead. He was must pleased.

My sister-in-law got a pair of those amazing fleece socks too.

My niece got an ocarina (one of those Zelda ones), and a Link figurine.

Dad was...too hard to buy for. :(

"When you have eliminated the impossible, whatever remains, however improbable, must be the truth." - Sherlock Holmes

I believe he uses that in multiple books/stories so... and I don't remember exactly which ones.

"Around the Godde there forms a Shelle of prayers and Ceremonies and Buildings and Priestes and Authority, until at Last the Godde Dies. Ande this maye notte be noticed."

—Old "Charcoal" Abraxas, Small Gods

There are longer passages from Neal Stephenson novels (Snow Crash and Anathem), but this is the best bite-sized one, off the top of my head.

Edit: Since I'm told that passage doesn't make sense out of context, the point being made is that it's easy to slip from worshipping a deity to simply venerating the trappings of religion. This applies to anything, not just religion.

e2: god this looks like a preachy effortpost I give up
