It's made quite clear even early on Milanor is her sidekick while she calls the shots. You have that time Yggdra is kidnapped thus Milanor takes center stage again, but that's the extent of it. While she shares a spotlight with a dude, i don't think he one-ups her like how most male lords one-up female ones in FE. Well, if you know about the real estate thing unlock the fighting styles, I suppose it wouldn't be a spoiler to tell ya that it's also how you unlock the abilities behind the "Locked" fence in the menu-each area for one style, I believe.
