Try to balance you chapters in such a way that you will always have some of your strongest units every chapter, but not all of them. She also starts out emotionless, as a mere weapon, but she learns how to feel again thanks to Aluche's upbeat and insistent nature. One more note on Veruschka: it helps that she's one of the best partners you can have with you on Extreme difficulty. Her specials have huge AOE. which makes her an excellent crowd clearer. The only disadvantage is that her ult hits only one enemy as opposed to, say, Ruenheid's or Eleanor's, which can hit multiple enemies. Spoiler I also like her design quite a bit, actually.
