Hello there, not!Selphina

You can really tell Kaga was still in the mindset he had since Thraccia. Or was going back to it?

I mean, there's a guy who was once called Kein before being renamed to Adel.

Ah, i'm remembering why i constantly looked at Link's Awakening guides when i was young: because the game doesn't tell you shit.

Admittedly, i am better at it but i just ran into "btw i hope you were doing the trading sequence nobody tells you about".

Andy, Max, and Sami are our Eliwood, Hector, and Lyn remake.

Amusingly, it's actually the other way around, considering Blazing Blade took quite a few cues from Advance Wars.

Yet somehow it was worse with just about everything. Like how unlike in Advance Wars, you can't replay the tutorials levels without starting all over from the very start.

But when it comes to having entirely arbitrary requirements to unlock missions or characters that are impossible to figure out without looking it up... FE7 copied that perfectly. Woho!

? Just because she has blue hair and a horse?

Although official art always portrays her with bows, despite her being terrible with them. Very much a crossbow specialist. Though having the option to combine Aim with 2 range attacks can be handy for sure.

Izerna can be a bit tricky to keep safe. Dean's really powerful, but he's only one man.

It gets easier once you realize that the ones following Dean and Izerna turn red when attacked. So Dean can force their attention on him.

The ones carrying money also aren't going to attack but are merely trying to leave the map.

Voice lines for Eve and Morion but not Sefoira.

They did this to spite you.

IntSys be like "we may have made an excellent game that delivers everything he wants from FE, but we WILL find a way to annoy Ruben."

Indeed, IntSys is out to get me specifically. There is probably a designated "Annoy Ruben" department. How else do you explain this?

Yeah, the key is to send Izerna north on her own while Dean attracts the enemy's attention, and have someone from Reese's group ride through the crossbowman. Trying to keep Dean and Izerna close only leads to trouble, because bodyblocking in Berwick is very hard due to hexagons.

OH THATS WHY HE LEFT THE MAP!? now i cant help but replay the map huh.. oh boi. one turn feels like forever now i had to do it from turn one again.

i know thats the intended path. but she keeps dying from that crossbowman because i realized to move the cavalrymen a bit too late.

a lot of mistake since chapter 1.. this really gives me deja vu of playing dark soul from the first time again. Really Kaga, did he really want player to not like him so much or what. let me learn the rope first

Kaga goes hard from the start. The map does a good job of being a solid introduction to the core mechanics without feeling overly tutorialy. It is a "real" map that someone could reasonably call their favorite map, unlike the first maps of games like 7, 8, Fates or even Engage.

Don't worry though, sidequests, or at least the earlier ones, are simpler than the main maps. The chapter 1 sidequests in particular are pretty chill. Even the one with fog, because Berwick Saga fixed fog of war. Imagine that!

Oh yeah, Randolph is a character. I almost forgot. You know, it would've been cool if Hopes had given these side characters more time to shine. But no, instead it focuses on the students again, even though they already had a game.

It's a shame because there are some really interesting looking characters on the sidelines that just don't get much attention.

Plus they didn't want people to complain about never seeing the generic bosses Edelgard has on the other routes, when you side with Edelgard. They should have just made them playable, to replace the Church members that are only available on the other routes...

Already I think my review of this game is going to be the longest one I'll write so far for any of these games as there is just so much I want to talk about, including this.

more like the game didnt tell you anything if you forgot to check / to lazy to read long info dump hidden behind victory condition page.

good: the challenge. i dont feel bad using save states. hooray for that

bad:  when/why i can counter or not, not explained at all

also.. as ugly as engage UI some claim it to be, it still tells me how many attack will be done.. not randomly attack 3 times or 1 time despite only shows 1  in battle forecast. or shows Atk value but not attacking.. altho sure random extra attack is nice i guess. if theres reason for that, i cant find it anywhere atm

mixed: the calculation for damage is.. how do i say it.. it feels like its trying to be as complex as tabletop RPG.

call their favorite map,

yeah sure. if retrying so much qualified as favorite contender this is certainly it. ambush spawn feels more forgiving than these hitrates XD

If you get hit by an attack, no counter unless weapon has extra strikes (Faye's Cutlass for example will allow an attack still)

I suppose there is a bit of information whiplash.

I don't know, I didn't read the tutorials either and had trouble learning the ropes at first, but I still loved the game, so I'm hardly impartial.

I like how they say that it's only in the Child Soldiers article that the Black Eagles are better.

Then again, it's not like you can actually bring Edelgard to stand trial on The Hague anyway...
