Was it supposed to be a balancing check? This is me just hazarding a guess rather than researching it, but I assume it's a hold over from the time of monarchies when Kings were arbiters of justice and had the power to pardon people. Most if not all countries have some power of pardon built into their head of state. Though a lot don't use it as much as the US does (I think in Ireland we've pardoned only like four or five people since the founding of the state). I guess it works as a nice catch all in case there's some issue that can't be resolved legally. 3 hours ago, Armchair General said: In another edition of extreme laws that haven't passed, yet; we have a draft that enables the government to acquire $80 billion worth of farmland through eminent domain...And redistribute it to anyone who can prove that they have African ancestry. On one hand, it's fair from a certain point of view. But I'm leaning towards that this is kind of extreme and that the current residents wouldn't go for this. Call me old fashioned, but taking stuff from one group and giving it to another based purely on their genetics sounds hella racist to me. Based on income I could maybe get behind, yay socialism, but not based on the colour of their skin.

Lord Raven
Thankfully bills like that have zero chance of getting passed. A lot of reparations is complete investment into black communities and full integration, including the increase of property value by orders of magnitude. But also, probably get massive pay raises due to discrimination, complete reduction of housing value inequalities (through, basically, reinvesting in infrastructure, etc), and so on and so forth. I'm high, so you know, decriminalization of drugs, legitimizing drug businesses and employment/benefits, removing any stigma of using drugs and investing in rehabilitation for addiction. Just basic shit that would help everyone, but farmers get significantly more benefits than the average black person. There really is a lot of aid in America it feels like, just that if you live in the suburbs or the cities you don't see much of it (unless it's related to planned parenthood). Tryhard
I find this incredible - https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-us-canada-55153366 US Attorney General William Barr says his justice department has found no proof to back President Donald Trump's claims of fraud in the 2020 election. "To date, we have not seen fraud on a scale that could have effected a different outcome in the election," he said. His comments are seen as a big blow to Mr Trump, who has not accepted defeat. Barr is terrible and probably one of the biggest Trump sycophants, but when even he turns on Trump on this... oof. Now he's apparently part of the deep state. And yet, he immediately followed it up by announcing an investigation into the investigation of the 2016 election (which Biden will likely let proceed to conclusion as a matter of non-corrupt government practices). Although given the 70 year old brat never forgave Sessions despite being willing to throw kids in cages and doing a lot of the rest of his bidding, there is still a chance he'd go as far as fire Barr in the last few days remaining. Who knew that the conspiracy ran this deep? Really amusing that the governor of Arizona effectively ghosted the Orange Turd as they certified the election results in the state. eclipse
If the deep state is so deep that everyone is a part of it. . .then maybe it doesn't exist. But good luck telling that to people who can never admit that they're wrong.

Etrurian emperor
So Trump made a gigantic 45 minutes long speech about ''election fraud. Its actually incredibly impressive that Trump already used a downright unsustainable amount of gibberish not even 20 seconds into the video. Trump called it the most important speech of his presidency which is very telling. His presidency had a deadly pandemic, race riots, among the most deadly mass shootings in US history and yet this prolonged temper tantrum where he whines about how unfair it is that he got defeated is his most important speech. I mean, it is his most important speech. Too bad outside of his head there's plenty of other things to deal with. More than a few are as a result of his administration, but of course he's never cared about that. As someone who's not heard much about the new administration, anyone have a good idea of what that looks like and should we be worried? Who's there other senator? Oh yeah Rand Paul. Wow. It is in the bottom 5 as far as poorest states in the country, but they keep electing Mitch thinking things will change for the better? Holy cow. Please donate to Georgia run off races (the Dem candidates) if possible. Winning the Senate is incredibly important so Biden can actually do stuff. Mitch can block cabinet appointments (even though he let Trump hire whatever loon he wanted), any judge appointee, and all sorts of other stuff. He can....and he will as much as possible. Mitch's goal is to make Biden's administration tied, so it can't do anything. We are headed for massive recession and Mitch will blame it on Biden and Democrats while not letting them implement plans to fix it. Then Trump gets elected in 2024 and America ends. Can Trump be tried for Sedition for what he's trying to pull with the fraud claims, pressuring election officials and state Republicans and Justice Department, trying for faithless electors. Essentially conducting a mutiny of American democracy? I hope so. The penalty is death. Though that would be too light a sentence for someone like Trump. The stuff we read in Dante's Inferno would be much more suitable. Anyways Donnie is a big fan of the Death penalty, bringing back firing sqauds, electric chair and more to federal executions...and setting a record this year in them. I'm sure he'd whole heartedly be fine with the death penalty if it is levied against him. He's not a hypocrite right? Of course not.
Jotari
So open question, some food for thought. Imagine you got exclusive information from a CIA agent or something that Trump was unequivocally right. The election was rigged by Biden and Trump is the legitimate winner. Would you make this information public?

This single act of corrupt and anti-democratic skullduggery would not undo the corruption and skullduggery caused by Donald Trump. It might weaken democracy tacitly if it was covered up, but compared to what Trump was aiming for, it wouldn't be anything noteworthy. Would you make this information public? I think this is an interesting question. If I can remain anonymous, or encourage the agent to give the information while staying anonymous, then yes. If not, then I think the information should still be given, even if our identities are put at risk, for the sake of keeping the heart of American democracy beating ever longer!... or something nationalist like that. Anyway, even if we didn't give out the information, the truth would have to come out eventually. However, as others have mentioned, there's got to be evidence to back up the claims, and even then, I'd like to know how it was rigged. Were false ballots printed and sent in? Were people coerced or threatened into making certain votes that they didn't want to? Did Biden poison the waterhole? etc. etc. In short(ish): Yes, I would give the information under the condition that I remain anonymous (even if I couldn't I'd probably go ahead and go through with it anyway), as well as if there is knowledge of how the rigging was done and strong supporting evidence to back up the claims. How the information was obtained is another question that I'd like answered as well, and whether or not Biden himself rigged it. If you were given the power or opportunity to prove someone's dishonesty, would you do so?
