  1. I'm a vet and I like the avatar and think it should stay. If anything, I'd actually argue that more casual players prefer not having one on the account that they care about story integrity so much for their reasoning against one.
  2. And enough speed to double, more con to wield heavier weapons than Karel (like armorslayer, blades or even brave weapons), a better support list-- with one character on Karel's list being impossible in some modes, and another one can be missed depending on which route you go on, and hard mode bonuses. To be honest, there really isn't much of a reason to get Karel over Harken assuming you plan on using both unless you really like swordmasters, or Wo Dao. Storywise, even if he isn't a main character, he still has more ties to the main plot as well.
  3. I hope that they not only make this scene but make it so stupidly over-the-top that it becomes etched in our minds for all eternity.
  4. Criticals do need to do less damage, but criticals do not favor the player more than the enemy. They favor the enemy more often on the account that getting hit by a critical is often times lethal, and can randomly annihilate a player unit.
  5. Interesting. I'm glad they're keeping the stats the same. Although, I have to know something: do you know anything about dynamic growths from Shadow Dragon? Is there a system going to be like that? I've looked around a bit, but I didn't see much.
  6. That's a good sign when they rebalance characters imo
  7. Not all of them. Some are fine, but I think it's silly when villains look evil.
  8. Only from a story though. Gameplay wise, I feel like they get better with each entry. Mark was a non consequence unit from gameplay only giving a minor boost to similar affinities, and giving you the afa drops. Kris was basically a unit that you got to define from the get go with some minor variants to stat growths. Robin is very similar to Kris with the only difference being that they started with a unique class. Corrin just flat out is the main character playing second fiddle to none. Meaning your main character was fairly custom. The only thing I really think they could do better gameplay wise is letting your "lord class" be customized. IE selecting your first weapon or skills etc when you hit the prerequisites for them. I love having a custom character for the main character as it helps alleviate the problem of "well X uses swords so I should probably use Y unit that doesn't use swords." At least in Echoes it's less of an issue because there's no weapon triangle. For me personally, given how small the Gaiden party is and how you pretty much always use the same units the whole game anyways, there's no reason for an avatar here IMO. Storywise I'm not particularly fond of any of the lords after Sacred Stones (with my opinion mostly being neutral or bad towards them), so I really can't say I really feel that the avatars are THAT bad storywise... Or at least not any more obnoxious than a standard lord-- seeing as how I found Ike to have the same flaws that people remark about for the avatar units. In general though I don't want them gone unless your Fire Emblem party never exceeds deployment slots. The difference with the main lead of Persona games is that they are silent protagonist through and through. The game often prompts the player to have dialogue options to give them some sort of shaping of personality while avatars in the Fire Emblem outside of Mark tend to be characters that not only have pre-established backgrounds that are important to the story-- Corrin and Robin, but they also have defined personalities and give the player very little options to RP with them which is the whole point of a self-insert-- all of the avatars except Mark are guilty of this. The only one that I'd actually say botches this in Persona is Persona 2, and that's more so because of how Tatsuya and Maya are handled. It's pretty jarring and ridiculous to go from Innocent Sin to Eternal Punishment and suddenly Maya no longer speaks and instead I'm speaking for her. Corrin is the worst avatar in the series when it comes to story, he has pre-established relationships, and the game starts out by saying "you love your siblings and they love you so much." No sibling rivalry, no strained relationships, nothing. That already takes me out of the "this is me" element because I can't decide "oh man, I hate Xander and I wish I could tell him to shut up." Instead my character is forced to like him whether I do or not. It's awful.
  9. I don't think it should matter. And I find it silly that it needs to be shoe horned into the game each time. At this point I almost think it's a bit of a joke the writers' do.
  10. That's always been a thing in the crossover style games like Namco x Capcom. Like Eclipse said. I honestly like games that have you use all of your characters and find this is the biggest flaw of quite a few SRPGs that they don't encourage using most of your units.
  11. I actually wouldn't change much assuming it's just the ending. The only difference is no Corrin being the ruler of Valla. Valla is essentially a wasteland. At best I could see them cleaning the area up and leaving it as a tribute of peace between the two kingdoms.
  12. Yeah, they are free. I don't remember any of the weapon locks being bugged. Personally I gave the Wao Do one to snipers on the account that snipers don't use swords so they can't use the Wao Do and vice versa. It also gives Lyndis a bit of a perk to be able to use both Wao Do and Longbows.
  13. Just an NPC. That's all I know about him.
  14. I'm really liking how they kept the groups to have a small team rather than making there a ton of units. It really does seem like they are keeping a lot of aspects to the original. I'm now curious what is being modernized outside of the Mila Gear.
  15. I honestly prefer lower key players to watch. There's a certain humility from them that makes them a treat.
  16. You should avoid pillow shading, and the hair seems like it could be a bit detailed. The first girl might need to have her head be a bit larger or adjusted slightly lower IMO. The coloration also is too dark for the robes. It needs to be a closer color to the bulk of the robe. The second girl's left shoulder needs to be adjusted with the rest of the body as well. Her hair also looks a little blocky on the left as well. Both talking portraits need to be a bit more centered. Look at the base one on the far right. Its in a different spot, and the second girl's is at a different angle. Honestly? These are pretty good overall though. I'm no good with FE hair, and I prefer a flat style mostly but there needs to be a bit more shades to the hair.
  17. I don't. I see it as a group of people that are in a small army and have to wear multiple hats. It's not uncommon in startup companies for instance to actually do multiple jobs, and the bigger the company becomes the more specialized you become.
  18. Route 11 - Great theme. Easily my favorite of the Pokemon R/B/Y/G music. Route 42 Route 119: I'll be honest. I don't really like the route themes in Ru/Sa but this is the best one IMO. Route 201 (Nighttime) Route 10 - This one is just weird but I like it. Route 1 - This was my last Pokemon game.
  19. True. Silas, Gunter and Takumi could get it. Which honest? Would help Gunter's game up a lot. And Tomebreaker Silas is pretty rockin' too. My point here is that it's a nice addition as it allows for some customization without sacrificing too much. Why? i don't think it's a bad addition. I just don't use it. Okay. Fair enough. But here's the thing, in a game like Thracia? It *would* be useful. Can't capture an enemy? Well maybe you'll get lucky and you'll randomly pick up a weapon. It's extra gold or forging fuel. That's cool. We both went a bit insane on miscommunication here. Yeah. I'd hope that's their next step in terms of skill acquisition. Perhaps even having some skills ONLY be scrolls like Tellius while others are class specific. Combine that with capacity and we could have something beautiful. Agreed. But that's what makes me like Gaiden. It's unapologetic in its weirdness. :D
  20. No. It's not moot. Because you can't do everything on one playthrough. Let's use Silas for instance. Let's say you're playing Conquest and you want him to be an Oni Savage. The only way to get that is by making him Marry Corrin that has Oni Savage as a skill. This is vital because it means that no one else can get a class outside of their marriages as well. And it means that who you marry matters because you can't say... Turn everyone into Butlers in a playthrough. Which I'm talking about permanent decisions with skills. Not the reclassing. Which is what you guys were bringing up. Sure, except FE4's system is not like 9. Skills in FE4 are everything. There's nothing flavor filled about "this unit never doubles." I'd rather them matter more than less. As the less a skill matters, the less anyone is going to care about them as units. If we're talking about uniqueness at any rate. But in the end of the day, they are. I'm fine with acquisition of skills, and I'm fine with units learning different skills. Take something like Bleach Third Phantom. It had Fire Emblem style elements, but each character had their own branches for skills that they could learn and acquire. Even with the customziation, it was still done within the realms of each character individually. I like being able to customize units and the like instead of the only "RPG" aspect of Fire Emblem being the "DUH DU DU DA DAH!" LEVEL UP! And reclass has the same flavor to the characters as well. Sully doesn't use magic in Awakening. While someone like Miriel does. Kellam can be a thief because no one notices him. I mean, why do we have to only have skills? Why not classes too? Chrom is the only one that can learn Aether in Awakening outside of his daughters. So I'm not seeing anything wrong with reclass here. No. But people usually know how to do more than one thing. If I'm a coder of C#, and I'm given Python, I'm not like "Python what's that? I can't do this!" Most people that are trained fighters don't just train with one weapon they use multiple ones. Heck, Fates even kinda supports this by having Ryoma have a club as his "trademark weapon" despite the fact that he'd have to use a heart seal to use his own club! And things like this we'll never know. Soren is actually pretty fast. Like one of the faster characters in the game. A base of 8 speed at level 1 is nuts. And his skill "Adept" is skill based which means that he's pretty good with his hands... So yeah. But RD Gatire is loud and stomps around and is proud of the noise he makes. And consider Soren's backstory. He never could speak originally, and he was only a caster because someone confused his brand for a spirit charmer. That means that he had to be doing something before he was a mage. My point is that there are several things a person might have done. Heck, look at Titania, based on PoR and RD, we know that she can use the full weapon triangle. More free reign, but not infinite. If I marry Elise with Odin, no one else can get Troubadour that's a male unless they marry Felicia or that naturally have it like Leo or Forrest. And why is it that grinding is somehow a problem? This was in FE8 and FE2 beforehand. I did. Savage Blow is actually really good when enemies are around you. Golembane is bad because there aren't enough Golems in the game. Even/Odd or Lucky Seven are actually pretty decent. I'd argue that the skill system needs work. Which I know I've proposed having RD's capacity skill system combine with Fates skills and you'd have a match made in heaven. You can have inferior skills stacked on each other for a lot of little useful effects or more powerful ones that you can use. Uh... You can't take off Arthur's personal skill. Just like if Kieran were in this game, he'd probably have something like "hotblooded" as a skill or "competitive rival" or something. There are personal skills in this game. Some I'm not really sure what you're saying here. Tell that to Fire Emblem 2 villagers which could become a large variety of classes (I swear, Gaiden is THAT game that seems to always throw a wrench in everyone's arguments, mine included). I didn't bash it. I'm saying that there's clear progression from the skill system used. Heck, one of the things I like about Fates a bit more is that there's far less proc skills running around. Moves like Vantage that they played around with in Tellius are balanced in a way in Awakening and Fates. It's a good thing.
  21. I don't see a problem with Fire Emblem stepping outside of its comfort zone. It seems like it's still trying to, just not in too drastic of a way to alienate its fans from the series. Each game in the installment has become more experimental since Tellius, while trying to maintain the core gameplay that it's always had. The biggest thing I think that might want to try focusing on is actual RP elements in this case. Especially if they plan on keeping the avatar around. It might be an interesting idea to have a less story centric game that revolves around your character simply trying to win a war. But I'm not sure how well received that would be on the account that FE fans really like their storylines.
