  1. Lute

Blue ploy mage before Saias was a thing. 34 Res allows her to pull of ploys easily. Her base Atk of 36 is above average for a blue mage but 32 speed is rather mediocre, and she will need the +3 speed from her tome and a successful Spd ploy to consistently double her enemies. While a little troublesome to use compared to naturally fast mages, ploys do help the entire team and not just herself. 7 for her niche and combat +0.5 for ploy utility for a total of 7.5/10

    Dorcas

I brought this guy up a few times already in previous ratings due to being the only axe unit in the entire game with built in DC, and as such, the only axe able to run steady breath+DC. That alone gives him a solid niche. His good def makes him a potent physical wall that hits back hard. The downside is his poor Res making him weak to dragons and liable to be one shot by blade mages before he can counter. Poor speed and not being an armor means he won't be doing much on player phase either. 8/10

  2. Ayra

Well, she wasn't called the queen of sword infantry for nothing. 33/37 is one of the better sword statlines but not powercrept by any means. What really puts her up there is Regnal Astra, the only speed based special in the game, with just 2 cooldown. Combining it with a slaying edge reduces this to 1, and with wrath, allows her to break past bulky enemies that give other swords trouble. She has decent bulk on top of that as well, allowing her to run DC builds with great success. The only thing keeping her away from a 10 is that her personal weapon isn't that good, and the lack of a vantage or wrath seal. 9/10

40 base speed is pretty ridiculous as is, and she has a 19 mt Wo Dao to go with it. She has good combat performance but lacking a unique special like Ayra and a broken statspread like Karla puts her just one tier below them. 8/10

  3. Both Ephraims have consistently good art, as does any character done by Asatani Tomoyo. Amagaitaro's recent artworks, especially Myrrh and Flying Nino look really good as well. Special mention to all of Wada's art, especially the GBA characters. I hope she does Eliwood at some point.

  4. I'm in the same boat as you. I can complete all content with unmerged units and as you mentioned, tier 20 isn't worth it so I don't promote to merge. Especially since most of my favourites aren't 3-4* pulls, and I'm not spending 200k on a character I don't care for.

The only times I ever merge is if I manage to pull multiple copies of a 5* unit that doesn't have good fodder, or to change the IVs of a unit I want to use.

Besides, there's other stuff to spend feathers on, like QR3, or slaying weapons.

  5. Compensation Orbs are because the update wasn't made mandatory, but players on an older version could still summon on the new banner, but focus units obtained appeared as X and weren't added to the barracks even after updating. Those players will also be getting their missing heroes, but I'm really questioning why anyone would summon on a banner with a giant X on it without suspecting a version update. Players can't be that dumb right?

  6. Katarina just becomes premium Arvis. Not a bad thing by any means, but her base swift sparrow doesn't go well with owltome effect. Mine is -Atk +Spd so I'll stick with blade regardless.

Nephenee finally manages to differentiate herself with armor effectiveness, but while the base weapon is great, her unique refine isn't. Speed is rather redundant on enemy phase, since QR exists and the +4 doesn't help her avoid any notable doubles. +Spd is probably a better option. Though outside of anti armor there are still better options for lance infantry.

Titania's is laughable. I really don't have anything else to say here. Spd tactic would have at least been a rare skill and thus more valuable but RES?

  7. Fish vomit Tiki looks pretty good. Apparently the solution to flying dragons not having access to steady breath is to just put it on their weapon. She lacks Myrrh's bulk but has much more speed, and it's not like there's much competition in the red dragon spot anyways. Aside from having only one iote's shield seal to go around.

Also I get a shot at fury fodder and Ares. The only downside is I have no orbs as usual.

  8. Elincia

34/36 offenses with a prf brave sword that only drops Spd by 2. With the right A skill and flier buffs she quads and/or ORKOs most of her targets, notably being one of the few non dragonslayers to one round Myrrh on player phase.

The downside is her poor bulk making it tricky to activate desperation (if you're running it) and like every other sword, struggling against bulky blues. Still, her sheer player phase strength makes her possibly the best pick for a flier emblem red slot. 9/10

    Oscar

The OG Nephenee pitybreaker. Lance cavalry are in a rather bad spot with only Legendary Ephraim and Summer Cordelia having reasonable performance in the current meta. He lacks a prf but when compared to the aforementioned two, he does have the third best statline and is much more accessible for merges. He does however, depend heavily on horse buffs to keep up. 6.5/10

Why does every other sword cavalier have a prf but only 2 lance cavaliers have unique weapons?
