  1. The dragon bosses are, besides being overdone as others have pointed out here, not so well integrated into the story. They less a villain and more a force of nature because of how little treatment they get before their one battle. Anankos is degenerate, so is Duma. Medeus has no pre-final battle presence just because. Idunn is a heartless dragon making machine. Grima does have presence pre-final fight, but it amounts mostly to RAWR FELL DRAGON! The Fire Dragon was not needed in the least- why does it want to kill people? Ancient revenge is the motive Ninian suggest, but that is pretty dang thin and the FD might as well be mindless to us. Formortiiis, even if being a generic demon king isn't the best, did manage to muster some pre-final battle presence on Eirika's route, more than most of the above. Takumi gets in three fights before the final battle, even if he ultimately just a tool of Anankos and is not exercising free will here. Ashnard manages to have some story presence with all the scenes in "Nevassa"/Melior, even if the BK, Petrine and Ena hog the direct presence vs. Ike and Ashnard never meets him until the final battle. Ashnard also rode on the back of a dragon, but the dragon was a victim here, Ashy was the threat. Ashera isn't too far removed from the problematic dragons I admit. But she casts her judgement at the start of Part 4, is acting of her own rational will even if Sephiran intentionally botched the 1000 Year Covenant, and the Tower finale gives us a few scenes of Ashera from long ago, so that helps weave her in a little more. Fairly true, individual units can't be that strong in an SRPG/pure Strategy game, and FE has permadeath to work around. I haven't played many strategy games, but I did think that barring Dual Strike (what were they thinking here? Crystal Calamity is much more climatic), AW has had good final battles, Days of Ruin's Sunrise being nasty if you take too long. Codename S.T.E.A.M., well the final fight there was a little too simple. The GBA era of FE is the worst, with HP sinks tossed alone onto a flat map (FE6 might have been taking FE3 inspiration here- except they combined FE1 Fane "Boss" Tiki/the FE3 Maidens with Medeus). Ashnard's final battle, barring the Ike Wrasolve cheese, is one of the better built since he is present and prominent with the ability to move at turn 9/when you get in his range on Hard/Maniac, but he isn't all the map is. Then you have Ashera and Anankos, fights roughly the same where the boss is the star of the show, but things worked out okay.
  2. You're not missing her, you're missing the lord of the darkness who speaks to the true nature of humanity, Dracula. And it just so happens that inside the Eclipse, Dracula's power is being stored. 9
  3. I'm curious whether or not the Feb 22 New Heroes Banner is going to factor in CYL2 results regarding who it is bringing, and this just has me wondering. How long does it take IS to make and then upload new Banners (and other forms of expectable new content)? They have to: Decide on what characters to add. Find artists willing to draw the characters and then have them draw them several times each. Have spriters make totally new sprites out of the ether (or should I say quintessence?) for everyone. Get VAs to voice them. Have the lone writer pencil in a plot scenario. Come up with each character's stats, weapon and other skills, including potentially some totally brand new ones. Make a map for the related story chapter, TT, and or GHB (the first and last also need fixed units, their placement, stats and skills decided on). Another question is have they got everything worked out as soon as they announce the new Banner, or are they still assembling someone's body, recording quips and putting polish on the final draft of the art at that moment? It stands contrary to reason they would have absolutely nothing done. I overheard that the first year's Seasonals and at least some of the GHBs were probably planned out, but was every Banner, GHB, and TT planned all the way back February? I don't think they could have planned some metagame fixers in advance, and Farfetched and CYL obviously weren't. Given this, I'd be inclined to say Feb 22nd and probably March 9th aren't going to be CYL2 influenced. Now I'm going to assume the unmentioned March 21st Banner that replaces the expiring March 9th one is Seasonal, which sounds logical since it'd be two normies since the last Seasonal, and Easter is April 1 (so it falls on April Fools Day this year- the perfect metaphor for Christ's death and resurrection). Therefore, it will not be until mid-April at the earliest that we actually see the proof of popularity/desirability shown to IS in CYL2, become a delicious pull pudding.
  4. And I just booted up my 3DS's Ambassador copy of SS. I have an Eirika Chapter 9 file walking into Serafew's Shop, I see Restore for sale. The shops don't differ on the two routes, so Eph should be able to buy it too. Why I replayed C9 Eph like last month on an all foot soldier run, and I do remember buying one because it wasn't cheap. The fact they put the free Restore in a chest in that chapter was also remarkably annoying until I remembered F&S.
  5. I'd argue Scorched Sands is a decent desert map. Two Gemstones get to die (although Valter and Caellach on Hard should start moving by a certain point (turn 10-13-ish to be fair) for more challenge), there isn't too much sand, the plot for the chapter is fairly good past Eph having to rescue Eri again. 4-3 is bad I'll agree to that though. Hm? Do you just deny its existence for some reason? Because according to SF's map shop page for SS, you can buy them in Serafew. You will obtain a freebie later, but that isn't redundant, since Father and Son (the Vigarde/Grado Keep battle) will likely require two Restores in totally separate locations. FE7's HHM Genesis, that is a map where Restore is an issue. Since you can only have 1 by that point, but your army is split in two right away and the enemies are packing high magic and status staffs, including Silence.
  6. I've played a lot of Double Dash as a kid, a smattering of Super Circuit, a few drops of 64, vague memories of Super Mario Kart, plenty of DS, some good times with Wii, and a ton of fun with 8. I completely missed out on 7 since I never bought it, and think that even if I could buy it now for cheap, it'd wear out my 3DS's controls. I'm curious about some of 7's courses though, like the one lap Galaxy inspired Rainbow Road and the Wii Sports Resort levels. I will say that I'm surprised I, despite a lack of power slide/mini turbo skills as a kid, managed to go as far as to unlock Petey Piranha and King Boo. I recall Wario Colosseum tripping me up and keeping me from doing anything else (that and All Cup Tour is excessively long- if a kinda interesting idea). Which reminds me, why hasn't Wario Colosseum made any Retro appearances? It was interesting if tricky. Which ones from DD haven't been Retroized yet besides this one? I did love MK8's DLC, the deal was good and the courses were so cool. Possibly Baby Park and Ice Ice Outpost aside (why not call it Fahr Outpost?), I felt they were all strong, or at least strong enough to justify them as more than just a cheap reference to another Nintendo IP (when they were a reference). I'd actually take a Tour of the Wi- *red laser appears* aw crap I've been locked on to! Must accelerat- *boom*! (Remember, Stars are made of Evil's Bane, in case you're so lucky as to have one when you're passing by a Guardian.) And while we're at it, I want New Donk City for the next MK's city themed racetrack, Mt. Volbono for a lava course with less of the typical red and darkness, and a Sengoku Bowsara Castle. On the playable side, well Cappy could work, but I'd rather Ninty start including Pauline in places as the SMO rep as they did with Rosalina. On the topic of Rainbow Roads, I think you argue, besides the glaring issue of the 64 shortcut (and being too long, but, perhaps owing to the 64's technical limitations, 64 tracks overall seem too long), that DS has the worst RR gameplay-wise (thematically that goes to 8). RR DS's loop de loops are cool, but the track is just too safe, too many rails when RR is supposed to be about the easiness of falling off. Anyone have any course favorites? Or favorite music pieces?
  7. Camp Firebird? (Featuring a flaming Feh as its logo.) Who gets the Smores Tome? Summer camp aside, thanks to Performing Arts, I wouldn't rule out the entire possibility of a holiday-free "Runway Runaways" Seasonal featuring stereotypical high end fashion.
  8. Takumi would possibly be appropriate for Joshua. Or Leo? Hmm.... (real TWENY spoilers) Shiki can be... who could pull off her look that well, as in, "showing too off much down there"? Why hasn't modern FE given us a girl who likes carrying a teddy bear around yet? IDK. Sumia just for the heck of it? Rhyme, well her look is a little tomboyish, and while Hector would make a good Beat if Lilina was Rhyme, I'm not in the mood for them right now. Rhyme!Myrrh to Beat!Ephraim sounds good though.
  9. I've been telling myself to just start "playing" just enough to get the occasional free login Orbs, so I'll when I finally decide to start doing real play I'll have them, but I've never gotten to that. I have DL'ed the game, and from time to time I've contemplated hopping in since like last summer. But I just keep finding some excuse to delay entry. Either I nitpick a banner as not appealing or having some issue (stat creep, Gleipnirika, Seasonal, etc.), the artwork as not appealing, or I assemble a checklist of things that must happen before I join in like: 3 Star pool expansion/5 Star pool decrease (hahahahahah!). Fair representation for all games (so I'm waiting on T776 primarily and Gen 2 FE4, along with a couple other things, like more Gen 2 Awakening and a dedicated non-Seasonal Binding banner). Enough characters I happen to really like (so a bunch of 7-10 characters mostly, though I do have those I casually like from the games I haven't actually played and from FE11 too) Laguz. Weapon upgrades for the Askr trio. Holding out is meaningless, and illogical. I might never be satisfied on the characters until two days before the game shuts down unless I put my foot down at some point and force myself to realize "Your expectations are too high! Settle!". Plus, lacking an independent income of my own and not liking to play the lottery or gamble IRL, I'd be strictly FTP. Unless the character that causes me to put my foot down is a freebie (Sephiran (who like me is highly rational but paradoxically mad and can see it for themselves and act all the calm through it) is likely to be a GHB so that might be the case), waiting until the banner comes is perfectly stupid. If I wait until exactly then, then I'll have no Orbs saved up and won't be able to nab whatever harder ones are available due to lack of a trained team of varied units across unit types, so I very much might not get the character I want from the banner, which is very bad because off banner I think I heard someone say I have .3% chance of getting a particular 5* character, which means next to impossible for me. There is also an irony in me not normally in FE caring all that much about my personal opinion of a character yet using them. I don't like Ephraim very much, but there is not a run of SS where I won't use him due to acknowledging he is forced on his route, good to train on Eri's, and just be a very competent unit overall. I've used Tharja, Camilla, Nowi, Ike, Hector, Lucina, Soleil, Xander.... any and all characters of some controversy in FE without batting an eye. So why should I care about FEH not having enough characters I like outside of gameplay in it? ...I'm trying to think of a personal title or some Skill that summarizes me in a witty and deprecating way based on the above mountain of text, but nothing comes to mind. But yes, I do love the gossip.
  10. Oh, you're saying you have them off? Well here is what I mean: I got two sprites of Touma Akagi due to a lack of communication mistake. I love 'em both!
  11. Looking at my sig, everyone knows where I should stand on the matter! All TMS needs is the 7 playables plus Uta-loid Tiki, a double banner, a TT, and a GHB would take care of this, as I have said before. If IS did this, they could settle 95% of TMS cravings for this game in just one release. All the characters have some unique potential to them, or at the least the potential to be normally good in FEH gameplay. I love most of the Carnage forms of TMS (Tsubasa and Kiria having the weakest), the gameplay was good. The FE touches were plentiful, and the SMT elements I'm used to as an SMT fan. I will not try to justify the characters as deep or story as good or J-Pop as music to all ears (it isn't to mine). About licensing fees, why are they such a hurdle? Atlus and Ninty are on good terms are they not? Does the capitalist desire for maximum profit mean Atlus wouldn't be so nice to just like Ninty reuse the TMS crew for a minor or no fee? Don't let Marx be right here (*grabs my Ridersbane just in case he is*)....
  12. Now that I think about it, it reminds me of the water bathed in by Bowser in the final battle of Super Mario Sunshine (which is just weird/weak even by Mario standards). So a rhythm game ends in a hot spring scene? Even though there is no scandalous substance to the scene, I dislike it being the stick in the mud I am. I'm poor with rhythm games too, to the point of failing the Wii DDR game with Gamecube Controller controls. No need to ever touch when this when I get around to playing.
  13. Don't mean to bash Nergal, but I think you'll like this dissection I did before:
  14. Well he was a hero, in the past, before the Serenes Massacre. He is more or less mentally insane at this point. You are supposed to empathize (meaning understand, not agree) with Sephiran's suffering, to lament that a person of such talent could fall so far, but you are not to actually agree with what he is doing. If RD was trying to push "let Ashera petrify everyone" as being the right thing to do or at least equal in merit to killing Sephiran and Ashera, why not give Ike and Micaiah the choice to agree to it? Sephiran, if saved from death, overcomes his insanity and sees that he was wrong. He was conscious enough in his insanity that in a court of law he could not plead insanity defense. Ike would have let him die, but opts to spare him thinking it will punish him more than death: Now Ike might be a little alone on this matter, Yune clearly disagreed. Sephiran did help out in the final fight, and I would like to think he did a lot of community service in the hundreds of years that followed, even if we aren't told it. Ashunera then returns and he presumably does a good perfectly sane job as her right hand again for however much longer he lives for thanks to those blessings, which could be hundreds or thousands more years. I think that is enough time to work off sentences for 1st degree murder for ~250000 people (we don't actually know how many were killed between PoR and RD, I'm just doing a very loose guestimation from what few military numbers we get), related property damages, plus an indirect role in the genocide of Phoenicis and Goldoa and the unique charge of "trying to kill everyone by awakening a goddess". Of course, you might believe in the death penalty. Fair enough. At the least the game forces Sephiran dead on the 1st run and gives you the option of leaving him to easily die on every subsequent run. Of course, the canonical version of events would be that which is most like a "Golden Ending" in all likelihood, which would means he lives. Which you have the right to criticize. I glimpsed you one time using a Nazi comparison with him. LAZY! I say! Do NOT invoke them unless it seriously applies, and here, it does NOT! Hitler was disgustingly anti-Semitic, racist, hateful, and an irrational ideologue since his days in Vienna as a failed watercolor artist. Never did Sephiran display any of those traits. To the end, Hitler didn't regret his choices to invade practically all of Europe, to take the lives of 6 million Jews, to genocide another 6 million more, and to kill many others in World War II and the stuff he did in Germany beforehand. Sephiran, to the end, although he did not turn back from his plans to turn everyone to stone, harbored regrets as meaningless as they are, about what he was doing. He loved the world, he just felt there was too much suffering in it and that Ashera when she finally awoke was going to turn everyone to stone anyhow. So if life as is in Tellius is terrible, and it is all going to die anyhow, why not give the terminal patient euthanasia? He was insane from despair, that is not a good thing, his plans were not good, but there is an element of genuine love, twisted, but present, in his schemes. Hitler had no true kernel of goodness in his goals. He just hated and wanted to conquer the world in the name of his illogical racialist theories that in practice lacked as much as definite definition as to what constituted a German. The Lebensraum notion of a crowded German people bursting at the seams to expand fell apart as soon as he had Poland and Czechoslovakia in his control, and realized he needed non-Germans peoples to run war industries because, surprise! Germany in a constant state of war didn't have enough German people to occupy their short sought Lebensraum at all! Long story short- pick your choice of metaphors more carefully, or don't use them at all. You don't need them to express why you dislike a character, I'm fine with someone disliking Sephiran, but please avoid sloppy language like that. That was the trigger of this landslide. P.S. I believe the exact comment of yours with the Hitler comparison I saw involved Sephiran wanting to kill everyone vs. Hitler killing just some millions. And let me counter with this: what real dictator has ever wanted to kill the world? None. Killing everyone is the stuff of fictional villains, and serial killers who would want to can't actually get into a position of power to do that. Hitler didn't want to kill everyone, Mussolini didn't, Stalin didn't, Castro didn't, Mao didn't, Latin American and African dictators haven't, the Kims of North Korea haven't either, nor any other one- they want to live their sweet lives on the totalitarian top you know? Why die early? Now, let me take a deep breath.
  15. Only if I can turn him horizontally, tie him to a stick, and put him over a bonfire. I will never forget Reyson referring to him as "a wretched sack of lard!". I will concede the resounding splendors of Beauty is a Mad Mistress though. That is somehow infectious.
  16. I answered Sephiran-Hetzel-Lekain. Why no choice for least favorite Senator? Numida is filler and has no character, but I find him less offensive than Oliver and Valtome. Oliver was fine in PoR, RD's intentional memefication of him is detestable. This is a man who relished in owing slaves- why joke about him? Valtome, he screams blatant evil with no attempt to conceal it. The way he behaves in front of Elincia at the end of 3-9 is brainless, he is just arrogant and in no way diplomatic, geez, no wonder she turned against you when you threaten to take her throne right in front of her in her own castle! He is also effeminate, the hair is fine as a period hairstyle, but the personality is PoR Oliver made worse and it really didn't have to be so for any real reason. Lastly, as a personal nitpick he has the same laugh as , but I find Valtome deserves it not at all, he disgraces the almighty ! I leave the game running for a few minutes after 3-10 when Zelgius is holding him in the air just to pettily watch his feet struggle.
  17. Knuckleheads? Isn't that what you call people with echidna fetishes? In that case, go on as you are, rather love the bro to the blue than the yellow lover of the blue.
  18. Are my eyes deceiving me or is the Sprite Assembly Request Thread gone now? It doesn't surprise me if it is. The initial team of eager sprite artists eventually faded away and fell to one. It deserved to die. I'm thankful for getting my one request fulfilled. I should be fine with this. But there is a little part of me that complains about these two wonderful ideas I had which I was waiting uncertain character to be added first never being fulfillable now. Any other websites that do this? Or links to all the resources to do it myself if I can muster the time, effort and creativity? Does it work on a Mac?
  19. Thank you for using the right name of A Ranked Wind Magic! He starts with Elfire, and a Physic too if they wanted to be Lucius cruel. His Living Legend "let me kill everyone" self has a Thunder instead of the Physic. Whatever color he is, I'd definitely want Athos's Apprentice, Erk's Teacher, Count of Reglay, Mage General of Etruria, Husband of Louise, Father to Kiein and Clarine (adopted), Distant In-Law to Hellene Queen of Bern, Friend to the Guardian of Nabata Hawkeye, Admirer of Niime the Hermit and Friend to her son Canas, Employer of Fiora, and Master of Deke, Pent. So strong, so nice, so free, so intelligent, so regal, and so handsome.
