  3. Just reading up on the Ainu people out of boredom, and I learned that their equivalent of Japanese kami are called "kamuy," transcribed as カムイ, i.e., Kamui. Could just refer to Kamui being the player's avatar, but perhaps the implications go deeper...?
  4. The Hoshidan names are just translations of the older FE names. In the past, Swordmaster, Pegasus Knight, Archer, and Cleric have usually been ソードマスター、ペガサスナイト、アーチャー、and シスター. Instead, they're Japanese now: 剣聖 (sword saint), an actual title given to masters of kendo/kenjutsu 天馬武者 (sky-horse warrior-person), where "sky-horse" obviously means "pegasus" 弓使い (bow user), self explanatory 巫女 (miko), a Shinto shrine maiden For Nohr, "Rod Knight" almost certainly refers to how Elize will use staves, along the same naming conventions as the Tellius games' Sword Knights, Lance Knights, etc. Thus the only actually interesting one is "Revenant Knight." Perhaps they ride some sort of shikigami dragons?

  7. Crap, forgot to add her name. Those are the same the images I've used for a while, though I'm not sure if they're from trailer 1 or 2. Erufi is from this pic: http://serenesforest.net/wp-content/uploads/2015/05/fami1205-4.jpg Kamui is dual-(something)-ing with her, and then an arrow points from that frame to a battle scene with her.

  9. I'm not going to read the whole thread at the moment, but I think worth noting are names of characters Kamui is seen dual-system-inhg with: スズカゼ/Suzukaze (can't make out which character it is) and エルフィ/Erufi (the pink armor knight).

  11. I always felt like Ending Winter was an explanation of the unexplained mysterious demise of the Archanean dragonkin. It would seem random to them; the cause was continents away! (On that same note, I've never gotten why people try to say Archanea is beyond the Dragon's Gate.) Back on topic, I'm a fan of option 2 in the OP. Being a rarity gives Garon motivation to kidnap Kamui, too, if Kamui really was kidnapped.

[spoiler=old content, feel free to ignore]So, the names of the four dragons (ネウロン, ラキス, ミューズ, クラニオン) are derived from the Ancient Greek words νεῦρον (neũron, "nerve"), ῥάχις (rʰáchis, "spine"), μούσα (moúsa, "thought") and κρανίον (kraníon, "skull"). So far, I've been calling them Neuron, Rachis, Muse, and Kranion. However, would people prefer Mousa (pronounced /'mu.sa/) over Muse? Pro-Mousa: I'm using Greek transliterations, not English derivatives/cognates, hence not Nerve/Sinew, Memory/Mammer, or Cranium/Harns.Pro-Muse: ミューズ is literally myūzu. (I'm going to pick Mousa unless there's a sudden huge opposition.)
  14. Is it just me, or is White-Haired Braid Guy missing his right arm from the shoulder down? If so, that'd be interesting. I don't think we've had any amputee characters since Dorias in FE5. Edit: Upon closer investigation, it looks like his arm might just be behind his back. Never mind me...
  15. Curse you, self! Why did you not think to Google it? Well, I took a look at the Japanese wiki page, and in case people are interested, it says (among other stuff): 夜刀神 is read as yato no kami (or yatsu no kami); the no just isn't usually written because Old Japanese writing often omits particles. Worth noting are that:I was wrong about the o in yato being long, and it's kami, not gami. 夜刀 (yato) is ateji, standing for the word for "valley" in the old Kanto dialect (cf. the nanori reading for 谷, and Wikipedia 谷戸). I guess the last point probably isn't important, but I thought it was interesting.
  16. It will be inserted into the game! Our hacker definitely knows what he's doing, and the Chinese fan translators have also been helpful. The collection must grow! :DSomething worth noting is that if you're going to buy only one of the official guides for TearRing Saga, make sure to get the Complete Guide (the blue one), not the Player's Bible (the red one). The latter is just a promo book, and it doesn't cover the whole game. As far as I know, the blue one's got everything the red one has.
  17. Have we had it confirmed anywhere (by furigana or pronunciation) that it's "Yatougami" and not "Yatoushin/Yatoujin"?
  18. I've noticed several split opinions on the Trinity of Magic. I'm pro-Trinity myself (a Trinitarian, you might say), and I don't really get why people don't want some sort of triangle, be it Fire-Thunder-Wind or Nature-Dark-Light. Anyone care to elaborate?
  19. Berwick Saga is great! Like I said above, another person on the team is working on it at the moment, though at a gradual pace. I'll be very glad when it's finished, though, so that more people will be able to fully enjoy it!
  20. I've enjoyed the trend toward orchestral compositions in recent FE instead of all winds and strings, but I felt that Awakening's soundtrack was a tad lacking in variety. Variations on the same theme are fine, but it was too prevalent. That said, I'd be happy either way regarding Ablaze tracks, but if I had to pick, I'd choose separate battle music.

Just a little (spoiler-free and color-coded) info about the game, for those who are curious: About a thousand years ago, a group of settlers from the continent of Jugd cross the Moratonian ocean and settle on the continent of Lieberia, where they establish four dominions: Rivellia, Razelia, Nolzeria, and Zemsellia. After about two centuries, these countries join together into the Kingdom of Reeve (each becoming a duchy). However, the Zoa people, indigenous to Lieberia, grow increasingly concerned about the rise of the foreign-descended kingdoms, and they attack Reeve. Reeve's acting official, Johannes, subdues the Zoan attack. The Zoa people call upon their god Gerxel, who answers their summons and begins attacking Reeve as a great black dragon. Reeve falls, and the Zoa Empire conquers the continent. In response, the dragon-goddess Miradona sends her daughter Yutona to join with the leader of the anti-Zoans, Carluon, and together they slay Gerxel. Carluon becomes king of the re-established Kingdom of Reeve (with its four duchies), and he marries Yutona. Garlon and Yutona have four daughters: Muse, Rachis, Kranion, and Neuron, the goddesses of water, wind, earth, and fire. At some point or another, the dominion separates (or perhaps people just go settle elsewhere) into four kingdoms: Reeve, Canaan, Leda, and Salia. The four goddesses are revered as the patron dragons of the respective kingdoms, and they begin bloodlines of holy priestesses. Other kingdoms that show up between then and the present are Mahl, Wellt, Barge, and Istoria. (Istoria isn't important.) The Zoans are also still around, many of them still Gerxel-worshippers who don't think he's dead. About 50 years before the present, war breaks out between Salia and Leda. Leda loses and is basically wiped off the map, and Mahl (Leda's ally) is made a suzerain state to Salia, though Salia is also in rough shape. About 23 years before the present, the Gerxel Church and the Zoans begin revitalizing, and King Bahanuk of Canaan decides that they're a threat to the well-being of the continent. For the next twenty years, Canaan and the Zoans fight, during which time Reeve repeatedly refuses to help their ally Canaan, wishing to remain at peace. About 2 years before the present, Bahanuk suddenly makes peace with Zoa and declares the revival of the Zoa empire. Canaan turns on Reeve, but they are held off by Duke Gramud of Razelia. Prince Arless of Canaan, an advocate against the war, offers a ceasefire, and he and Gramud agree to meet at Nolzeria to discuss peace. Then suddenly, the holy dragon Muse, who died centuries ago, appears out of nowhere and kills absolutely everyone at Nolzeria. Then Muse vanishes without a trace. Both Canaan and Reeve believe it to have been a dirty plot by the other kingdom, and the fighting resumes. At present day, Gramud's son Runan and his friend Holmes (himself the son of Admiral Vals, a privateer in the service of Reeve) flee from Port Granada, which had until recently been Reeve's last holdout. They arrive at the remote island kingdom of Wellt in the hopes that they will be willing to provide aid.
  22. All righty, I was leaning toward Mars myself, so that's good to have support on that. (The temple of fire is in NE Salia, though, not Wellt.) There's another person on the team working on Berwick Saga, though at his own pace.

Ripping the game from the disk, you may end up with an ECM file, which is a compressed BIN. Use a tool like UnECM to decompress it. The patch is in xDelta format, so you'll need an xDelta patcher; I'd recommend xDeltaUI, available here on Romhacking.net. Just to be safe, apply the patch to a copy of your TearRing Saga BIN file. Use the patcher to patch the BIN file with the xDelta file found above. Load the patched BIN using whatever PS1 emulator you like. I've always used pSX v1.13 with no problems. Note: If you use ePSXe 2.0.5, please follow these instructions, or else the emulator will not run correctly. Failing that, try version 1.9.4. Note that because this is a Japanese game, circle is "yes" and X is "no." While we're on the topic, triangle is the "more info" button, like the R-button in the GBA games. I'm not sure where I should post a topic about this (the TRS subforum or the Hacking subforum?), but I've joined the group that worked on the old TearRing Saga patch and am in the process of mass-editing the script to bring it up to scratch. So yeah. It's not dead (at least not anymore)! No ETA for now, though.
