  1. My actual pulls were very meh/10. Didn't get either of the staff sisters, got one Lara who was -atk, and didn't even get any off-focuses or 4-star specials.

The one thing that made this session not be 0.5/10 was that I did legitimately pull Reinhardt. Somewhere between pulls 31-35. And he was -atk.

    I am not amused.

EDIT: Actually, I got 2 Laurents near the beginning, who is a merge project, so it wasn't that terrible I guess. Still, I can't believe I didn't get either Safy or Tina. Or more than one Lara.

  2. I will say that it's super nice that Tina and Safy are bringing new skills into the pool. Wrathful Tempo =/= Poetic Justice, sure, but if you just want a tier-4 wrathful you can get either one now. And I think Safy is the first normal pool unit bringing ploy 4 into the pool, since the other two were Rearmed Plumeria and Sonya.

Lara bringing Rockslide Dance 2 is also pretty cool, although I do hope they'll consider making a 5-star normal pool dancer who could bring one of the 4th tier dance skills with them.

Yes, because Three Houses / Hopes needs that extra bit of yearly content.

Oh and speaking of that, Tina happens to have F!Shez's Japanese voice actress (Miyu Tomita). So, M!Shez might not even get the Fallen alt over F!Shez.

Don't know anything about Hopes' lore, but I imagine that if they make fallen f!Shez, they'll also have fallen m!Shez as well. That's the pattern they've followed for Robin and Corrin, and I'd be shocked if m!Byleth doesn't get a fallen alt this year.

Because the male avatars are still popular enough to make them money.

  4. The one major thing I don't like about this banner is that they're choosing to drop three female characters all at once. Even with Perne being the GHB and knocking out one male character, Thracia just ... doesn't have a lot of female characters. Instead of doubling up on the staff sisters, they could've put ... I don't know, Trewd/Trude/whatever this guy's name as a demote and make Lara 5-star or something. I guess you could kick out Safy for a more coherent theme.

Speaking of theme though, I really wanted Reinhardt on a Friege-themed banner with Amalda, Fred, and Eyrios. I guess Rearmed/Ascended/Attuned Olwen will have to carry them if they're ever getting in.

I assume you meant Hardy Fighter.

Nope. The damage reduction on the armor-exclusive Specials is a passive effect that isn't tied to the Special being triggered and is therefore not affected by Hardy Fighter.

Queensblade prevents Specials from triggering, but does not prevent their passive effects that aren't tied to the Special being triggered.

Vital Astra's Dodge effect and Godlike Reflexes' additional damage are both passive effects and won't be blocked by Queensblade.

    1. Whoops, that is what I meant. Also, noted. Guess I won't be giving Nagi Hardy Fighter after all.

    2. All right, cool. Just wanted to double check before I wasted an extra Vital Astra on her.

  6. Heyo, I just wanted to verify two things before I do something stupid.

    1. Does the damage reduction on Armored Floe/Beacon count for Hardy Bearing's condition?
    2. Does Lucia's no-special thing override both of Vital Astra and Godlike Reflexes? I swear I remember hearing that she could use one of them, but I also got my Lucia fairly recently so I didn't pay much attention to that.

    Thanks in advance.

  7. I'm only going to include characters that I don't think are a lock for a future banner (so no remaining Engage royals).

    1. Tormod
    2. Stefan
    3. base Saleh
    4. FE4 Claud
    5. Midir (or whatever his name was localized to)
    6. Coirpre
    7. Sleuf
    8. Amalda
    9. Eyrios
    10. Linoan
    11. Shin
    12. Dayan
    13. Artur
    14. Muarim
    15. Janaff
    16. Jade
    17. Pandreo
    18. base Seadall
    19. Elphin
    20. Edain

So basically a lot of dudes and a lot of characters from games that aren't very popular. If I got Tormod and no one else this year, I'd still be thrilled.

EDIT: Fuck, I forgot Zeiss. I guess you could replace Elphin or Edain with him, I don't know.

  8. It's kind of annoying that the game's writers just assume everyone still playing this game is even okay with the creepy goddesses continually hitting on you. If the game is going to insist that it's "catering" to me, I want an option to say no to unwanted stalkers.

This game is basically a stereotypical isekai, I guess.

  9. So, my various tickets did get me focus units and 5-stars. Just ... uh, not the right ones.

Got two 4-star Lyres, a 5-star Kaden, Syrene, August, Ced, and Brave Claude. Of all these guys, August was the only one who was new.

Well, I guess it's better than getting nothing at least. Also, free-pulled 5-star m!Kana on this year's banner, which was nice.

I'm not sure about it. On one hand it really seems that Corrin came off way dumber then the writers intended and that we weren't supposed to consider him so incompetent. On the other hand the writers themselves wrote the sibling as needing to babysit Corrin and continually hold his hand so things don't go wrong, and they even have a scene where the siblings all conclude Corrin doesn't need to learn because they'll just clean up the mess. That does imply that at some point the writers did start to realize that Corrin was not a smart cookie.

This is fair, although I feel the writers' intent then was less "Corrin is as dumb as a rock" and more "Corrin's so pure-hearted their siblings would rather protect them than lose that charm".

At least, that's how I interpret it because I imagine the writers didn't actually intend for players to see the stand-in avatar representing them as being dumber than a brick.

But this is not a place where I am being uncharitable. Dierdre literally has to guilt trip Sigurd into letting her join the army in chapter two, and he insists on conditions for her to join that fight. In chapter 3, he puts his foot down with a guilt trip of his own.

Went back and checked the script, this is fair.

That said, both Sigurd and Deirdre just come off as being really worried about each other's safety in ways that contradict each other's wants. Sigurd worries about Deirdre staying safe (and if you kill Sandima before meeting Deirdre again, she tells Sigurd how she's being hunted) and as far as he knows, her staying away from the battlefield is the best way for her to stay safe. (Manfroy has plot bullshit armor, not going to hold that against either Sigurd or Deirdre.) Deirdre wants Sigurd to stay alive and she knows that he can't avoid fighting, so the only way she can think of to keep him safe is to be beside him on the battlefield to back him up and heal any wounds he may get. At the very least, it doesn't come off as Sigurd browbeating Deirdre to keep her as a domestic wife and mother against her wishes.

An odd one to throw out there for dumbest, but Sigurd comes to mind. First off the game opens by emphasizing that the brilliant young tactician Oifey is riding by his side feeding him tactical advise. Second off, Sigurd ignores basic aspects of politics, which by all rights, as heir to the duchy, he really should be paying attention to, and this ignorance leads to disastrous results. Another small thing to mention is how he treats his wife, despite her literally recruitment being her showing her competence on the battle field by saving Sigurd's hide with her clever use of magic. After their marriage he repeatedly tries to force her off the battlefield, and into a more motherly role that she chafes against, and just like with his staggering ignorance of politics, these efforts lead to utterly disastrous results.

Interesting, this is the first time I've heard anyone blame Sigurd for Deirdre being kidnapped by Manfroy. I've seen the cartwheels people have done trying to blame Deirdre, but I'm not buying this one either.

Also, unless there's an updated and more accurate translation of Genealogy's script that I'm not aware of, I gotta disagree with the assessment that Deirdre "chafes against" a more motherly role. The script on SF never suggests that she hates being a mother or not being on the battlefield, nor does it suggest that Sigurd tries to force Deirdre off the battlefield after their marriage. If I had to make a deduction from the script, he's concerned about Seliph having at least one parent and probably didn't have an issue with her fighting alongside him otherwise. And Deirdre's more worried that he's putting himself in danger rather than being upset she's been relegated to the castle.

[There was a quote from the script here, but it broke my entire fucking post so I deleted it]

Not giving an opinion on whether I think Sigurd is dumb or not, but this is a really uncharitable interpretation of his and Deirdre's interactions after being married.

Also, it's hard to say who is actually the dumbest or smartest lord because of how variable the writing can be with how it tries to portray characters' intelligence. For example, Corrin comes off dumb to the players, but it also doesn't feel like the writers intended for them to be stupid. Rather, it feels like a badly written way of portraying Corrin as a charming and kind-hearted soul whose messianic pull is resisted only by the "really bad people". Ike is certainly not a genius in tactics or politics skills, but the story also has Ike realize those limitations and he comes off smarter for knowing when to bow out and put more competent people in charge. Edelgard is apparently supposed to be politically savvy and smart, but she also gives off the impression of someone who thinks she's smarter than she actually is. At times Claude being a schemer feels more like an informed attribute than his deviousness being worked in organically into the script. And it's hard to tell whether Ephraim is incredibly dumb or incredibly lucky or incredibly smart for pulling off all the bullshit he does, because the only time the game lets him fail is on his own mode when confronted with Lyon. Which clearly only happens as a direct parallel to what happens to Eirika on her path.

I could tell you who I think were intended to be the "smart characters" by the writing, but that doesn't mean I think they always get it across.

  12. Yay, it's a NY banner ... and I don't care about anyone on it. Honestly, all of the book 7 OCs were pretty uninteresting to me so I guess I wasn't going to care for them on character. Kanas are Kanas.

The skill level here looks mostly tame, or as tame as Kvasir and Seithr's prfs can get. Demote scowl and dragon wall is nice, too bad we can't get those in the regular pool.

Overall, I'm pretty happy I can skip this.

  13. I was hoping to free pull winter Ephraim on today's revival banner, but got no blues and got a free winter Fae instead. Apparently she likes showing up for me. I have no idea what to do with her anymore, but guess I'll merge her or hold onto her fodder or something.

The Japanese voice actress for Ilyana doesn't even voice any other characters either. So, Ilyana isn't getting this stuff because she shares her JP voice with a more popular and/or more notable character. As an example, Karla happens to share her JP voice with Elise.

Though on the English side, Ilyana shares with Peony (Ryan Bartley voices both of them).

    ;/

In theory, I'm not opposed to getting Ilyana someday. But there were a lot of characters in the earlier books that I would've liked to see before her. Also, I can't believe that she now makes CYL4 units eligible. Those are some of the last units who need a Resplendent.

  15. I didn't realize that Ilyana was that much of a jump ;/ I swear there's an Ilyanadev, what else can explain how she wormed her way onto the Tellius kids banner instead of Elincia or another Greil Mercenary or Nephenee?

Also, wasn't a big fan of Yunaka in her own game (never could get past the "zappy" thing, and even her more serious side didn't feel so well integrated amongst the carefree cast of Engage), and her being the Christmas host neither lowers nor increases my opinion of her. That said, this Christmas certainly was ... kind of questionable. I expected tickets and when we didn't get them chose not to do more than the first circle for the legendary. I liked getting the grails, trait fruits, and even the Celestial stone is fine (although I would've liked more than one). But arena medals? Seriously? And while stamina potions would normally be cool, I still have WAY too many from that time Askr gave us like 500 stamina potions.

Double SP not being active this weekend was also really annoying for me because I like to use double SP weekends in conjunction with TT+ so I can get SP on my newer units. And of course I couldn't do that because double SP was broken. How the fuck do you break double SP weekend anyway? Shouldn't there be a code that just ... makes it active if it's a weekend?

I don't think they've been holding M!Corrin because he's not popular, had the opposite impression actually, they hold a lot of popular characters for some time to maintain the interest on the game, and cause if they released every popular character as soon as they could, then less than halfway throught the game's life we'd be left with only a bunch of randoms to add and a bunch of ass pull options to put as legendaries/mythics, so they have to alternate between popular and non popular/ass pull options to avoid it. Is it fair that fucking Ullr was released before Athos or Gotoh? Of course not, but it does make the game last for longer, at least we know that M!Corrin will surely get a Legendary, one day. BUT, I do agree that the legendaries/mythics have been leaning a lot more on the women's side lately, couldn't have hurt to add a dude now, I think @eclipse(and everyone that said this on the Christmas banner thread) is right, the choices have been giving an air of desperation on IS' part.

I don't actually agree that m!Corrin is popular enough to justify holding onto for this long. Also, considering that f!Alear and f!Shez got their legendary forms rather quick while m!Shez still doesn't have one and m!Robin only got his earlier this year, and m!Alear's base form took 6 months after f!Alear to show up when all the other avatars had been added at around the same time, this more seems to suggest that whoever's in charge of character decisions in Heroes does not see adding male characters/legendaries/mythics as a priority. Especially when m!Byleth is the only male avatar to get a legendary before his female counterpart, and f!Byleth released in the same year as him.

By your logic, m!Corrin should've gotten a legendary some time before Camilla anyway since Camilla's more popular than he is.

  17. 5 minutes ago, Tybrosion said:

I believe M!Corrin usually does rank below Takumi and Leo, but that wasn’t the case in CYL7. Takumi and Leo were both slightly behind M!Corrin at 35th and 32nd in CYL7 respectively.

Xander and Ryoma were a bit further down in CYL7 at 70th and 99th respectively.

Huh. I'm legitimately surprised by that.

But I guess this just leaves me overall more confused as to WTF is going on with Fates character choices sometimes.
