Around July / August 2021, it came out that he (Tatsuhisa Suzuki) cheated on his wife (who, if I have my information correct, also happens to be a pretty big star in Japan) and also ended up in the hospital with health issues (which might've resulted from a botched suicide attempt, but absolutely don't quote me on that). He was on a hiatus for a while but returned from it a while ago.

Consequently, he was dropped from several different productions (one of which was apparently the Pokemon anime, a Nintendo related production) so IS probably has no clue what to do with him and his characters (because he also voices Tibarn, Ranulf and the main character of FEH himself, Alfonse).

Personally, I'm pretty sure it's no accident that the last time we've seen any of his characters get something new was in February 2021 (Day of Devotion Alfonse).

    Huh, I see.

And of course Japanese media tends to not recast voice actors for whatever silly reason.

Where Sonya ranked among the Valentian characters in CYL7, for reference:

    Berkut: 47th
    *Catria: 68th
    Desaix: 80th
    Delthea: 110th
    *Palla: 125th
    Mae: 151st
    Faye: 165th
    Lukas: 177th
    Rinea: 182nd
    Clair: 196th
    Kliff: 197th
    Genny: 215th
    Python: 219th
    Saber: 243rd
    Sonya: 252nd

Even if you take out Catria and Palla, that would be 12 whole characters ahead of Sonya. Half of those characters (Mae, Rinea, Clair, Kliff, Python, Saber) only have one version and one Resplendent (Saber) between them while Desaix isn't even in FEH at all.

If it wasn't for his dipshit Japanese voice actor, this Rearmed Hero probably would've been (and definitely should've been) Berkut. I say this as someone who doesn't even like Berkut, either.

Do I dare ask what what the fuck his voice actor did

Also, damn. I thought Sonya would be more popular considering that she also got a Harmonic bunny alt. Turns out it was just the devs being horny for her. Or something. Boobs, I guess.

By the way, uh, this might be kind of important, but ... I vaguely remembered the FEH channel that introduced the 4-star special Heroes and I pulled it up again to rewatch that segment. It specifically says that going forward, Special Heroes/New Heroes summoning events will 4-star summoning events with the 3% rates. I also think they had to add an addendum later on stating that things like Fallen and Brave Heroes wouldn't get the special 4-star rate.

My question then is whether IS broke their own rules by not including a 4-star demote here in this batch, since despite the "Attuned Heroes" existing it's still being passed off as a "regular" New Heroes banner.

EDIT: I'm dumb and didn't include the link to the FEH Channel:

The insta-demote being Hestia suggests Marla will be in the Forging Bonds, despite being the GHB. This sets a really bad precedent.

It seems like they're trying to play Zeno's Emblem, coming increasingly close to finishing a game's playable roster without actually doing it. There's now three playable Valentia characters without regular versions, and at this rate we'll keep getting them just one at a time. Are they ever going to finish any game?

    Nope.

I don't know if complaining about this to IS will make a difference at all, but maybe we should just spam their feedback button about this.

Besides, it's really shitty that TWO fairies took slots for an "Echoes" banner and yet we only get ONE extra Echoes character to compensate, and they'd rather put in non-playable unimportant female characters for these throwaway spots too when the game in question literally had four playable dudes left.

"But Hestia and Marla fit the theme with Sonya --" No one said that the Rearmed had to be Sonya. Heck, I'd argue that we didn't need a Rearmed (or Ascended) with this batch when Peony and Triandra are both stealing spots here.

  4. Wow, it's like why even bother making a game about Fire Emblem Heroes with actual Fire Emblem characters from previous games, right???

If IS were smart, they could've knocked out all of the remaining playable characters left for SoV within this banner.

Also, on the one hand I get that we needed an arcane green tome at some point. On the other hand, why the fuck is Sonya getting better shit than Alm? With both Peony and Triandra here did we really need Sonya? Could've been Jesse or normal Deen or Nomah EDIT: Fuck you spell check.

  5. WHAT THE ACTUAL FUCK IS WRONG WITH THIS BANNER

The fucking Halloween banner has given me THREE 4-star specials on RED and I swear at least three Kamui and not a single Seadall.

And the one color I'm trying to avoid won't stop showing up.

Seriously, what the fuck is wrong with my seasonal luck the past few months?????

In regards to the next part of Nihility and Dream [SPOILERS]:

      Hide contents

We're actually getting a three-for-one in terms of art for new units:

    https://www.reddit.com/r/FireEmblemHeroes/comments/16ygv6n/datamine_oct_2_2023_new_book_4_alts_character_art/

In case her being the only one with a full art set didn't give it away, Ascended Peony is the next TT+ boss.

    https://www.reddit.com/r/FireEmblemHeroes/comments/16yhaun/new_tt_boss_and_weapon_and_stats/

But yeah in addition to the entirely expected Ascended Peony, we also have the base art for a maybe Rearmed Triandra and Ginnungagap.

Mirabilis doesn't get shit because even IS has realized that she was a pointless character.

Damn, if IS were gonna ignore Mira like she's a male character, I wish they would've just made her a male fairy

    😛

  7. I am constantly amazed by how the gacha manages to give me various off-focus 5-stars instead of the focus unit I'm trying to summon.

But fallen f!Byleth is REALLY good, and I wanted her A-skill for my Hel, so I'm not really upset by this. That said, I do find it hilarious how I've never summoned f!Alear despite all the times she's been on-focus, while I summoned one m!Alear off-focus.

  8. These Harmonics are getting lazier and lazier. Wasn't a fan of Tiki+Tiki, not a fan of Anna+Anna.

Also, demote Seadall is pretty nice. Good to have a dancer for Engage, and one that is pretty reasonable to summon. (Well, comparatively more reasonable, I guess.) Timerra follows Ivy in getting a seasonal before a base form, which I guess makes sense. Elusia and Solm are probably not getting in too soon. Although I wish they'd have made Timerra something besides a lance. Won't her base form be a lance?

Flayn brings a new staff trace skill ......... I really hope they make some of these tier-4 dazzling/wrathful variations that are designed for the slower staff units too.

To be fair I think Veyle really was supposed to come off as a dummy whenever she interacted with the Hounds.

It's not so much her stupidity and more that the game tries to portray her cluelessness as endearing and naive and a victim of the big bad Hounds and Sombron.

It's mostly that the game seems so desperate to have me like her and to feel bad for her, when I'm just facepalming at every other thing she does.

  10. 25 minutes ago, Tybrosion said:

For some reason, I thought that there was a character who had the same role twice. In that case, Lilith could be Veyle's backpack, Fae is a standalone 5* and M!Alear take the 4* Focus slot.

Not that I can think of at the moment. As of now, any character that's been in two different duos/harmonics hasn't been a lead or a backpack twice.

Of course, that could change in the future, but so far there's been no precedent of a character being a lead or a backpack twice.

Since no one asked, this is my guess for Dragoween 2023:

    Veyle & Fae [Harmonized]
    Idunn
    M!Alear
    Lilith [4* Focus]
    Nasir [TT]

Originally, I had F!Alear & Idunn as the Harmonized Hero but then Legendary F!Alear happened. I really doubt that F!Alear shows up here now, but there is precedent to a really quick turnaround for alts (namely, Young Azura in Nov 2018 into Legendary Azura in Dec 2018).

Fae was already Idunn's backpack in that one spring banner, so unless she's leading it won't be her.

I don't think Otr was necessarily a failed attempt at being sympathetic and more not really an attempt.  Like, yes, he absolutely was a victim, and didn't deserve what happened to him. At the same time though he was always depicted as a dick. Oh wait, Otr was the brother, Fafnir was the king. What are you talking about then? I thought the brother character was self aware of his circumstances and still chose to be sort of a tool and work with Eitri for his own attachments.

Unless my memory is failing me, I'm pretty sure Otr had a last-minute monologue right before he died about how he (and his family) came to live at the palace and then lost everything until Fafnir appeared or some shit that was meant to be sympathetic.

  13. 13 minutes ago, Jotari said:

I can't believe I'm saying this, but I think they have managed to keep doing that in Fire Embelm Heroes. And let me preface, Heroes does not have a great story. They are very limited by their story telling medium and have not found any way to actually make that a positive. However, the villains are...well...villainous. Okay, the most recent example in Gullveig and whatever that old dude's name are terrible, just boring. But the others, while they sometimes have sympathetic backstories, they still don't come across as sympathetic characters were meant to feel sorry for. And I think Eitri just doesn't have any sympathetic backstory at all and is just bad. Hel and Surtr are just Magic Man Bad without the magic class though. Course I have so little investment in these stories that I could be completely off base.

I tend to forget Heroes exists most of the time.

That said, I do agree that there are some characters like Hel and Surtr who are allowed to just be bad without being sympathetic at all. But Heroes still has done this before, especially in books 4-6. Plumeria, Triandra, Freyja, and Otr got slapped with some "sad backstory" that really wasn't necessary and only existed to (try to) make them more sympathetic. It was probably more successful with the fairies than with Otr (probably because he's male). Maybe Letizia also got hit with this, but I have so little idea of what they were trying to do with her that I can't say for sure what was supposed to be her deal.

  14. So, uh, I still haven't quite finished Engage yet. I'm on the last chapter, but I just got extremely burned out on it even though I was having some fun with it when I started. Honestly, I went into it expecting pretty much nothing, found the story about as disappointing as I thought it would be, had fun with the gameplay, and got so annoyed by the near-endgame chapters I got burned out.

One thing I want to contribute to this conversation (and to be fair, this is certainly not unique to Engage) is that nowadays, IS seems so fucking reluctant to allow characters to just ... not be sympathetic, you know? It's like even with (most of) their villains or antagonists they're constantly trying to go the "oh, but they had a tragic backstory!" route that is somehow supposed to make us feel bad for them and that they were also victims.

IS no longer can write villainous characters with troubled pasts who nonetheless did bad things and aren't excused for it. Like Nergal and Arvis, who are more complex than just "bad magic man bad", but they still did genuinely bad things and fucked up their world and in their own games aren't given a pass for it. And while the players are given more information than any single character has, the game doesn't shove into the player's face how they should feel about Nergal and Arvis. As opposed to how Zephia and Griss had this dumbass death scene where the game is clearly trying to "redeem" them somehow. Or Edelgard and Xander getting treated with kid gloves on their route so that they don't actually have to face the bad consequences of the things they do. It feels like we're not supposed to think about anything beyond what happens on the screen.

Also, in slight relation to that previous point, it also feels like the writers themselves just ... lack the ability to tell the kind of story that they want to or something. Like how characters that are supposed to be sympathetic come off as dumb and obnoxious instead (VEYLE), or plots that are meant to be clever just come off as really stupid. To give an example, it feels like someone trying to write a character who's supposed to be clever and intelligent, while the writer themselves lacks the cleverness and intelligence to realistically portray the character in a believable way.

I'd throw Lilina, Celica, Nanna and Deirdre in there as well. Deirdre in particular is the most egregious one when you remember that she doesn't even get to use the Book of Naga in FE4. So, staff utility was pretty much all Deirdre had going for her in her limited play time because Aura is a meme tier weapon in FE4.

Leif's more-or-less canon love interest (Nanna) is also associated with staves, so there's that too in regards to Leif.

Lol, I knew I was forgetting someone.

But yeah, legendary Deirdre and legendary Nanna also realistically could've used staves (although I can understand why Nanna didn't, because her two previous versions were both staves). Deirdre really should've had a staff though for at least one of her alts, now that I think about it.

For a moment I was confused... then it was brought up the other was the Ascended, haha.

Not quite. Between her Baldr Blood and the Light Sword, it's actually swords what Ethlyn is canonically associated with. Even if, yes, her base form here is a staff user.

As for Legendary Lief... well, there's the Bragi Sword. That is meant to be his endgame weapon in Thraccia.

Fair, although I can understand that they may have been trying to avoid swords for Leif. Considering how they basically made every non-Marth Falchion user a bow and how neither Byleth uses a sword and f!Alear is a "dragon" and neither Robin is a sword unit.

  16. I wonder why they seem to hate staff legendaries so much. Guinevere, Micaiah, and Elincia are all legendary characters who could've reasonably been staff units. Instead, Guinevere is another tome unit who repeats her "effectiveness against tomes" gimmick, literally all Micaiahs have been tomes and there have been three colorless Micaiahs now, and legendary Elincia could've just been the staff unit instead of ascended Elincia (who in retrospect wasn't really necessary, I assume she exists just because she goes thematically with a Crimea banner though).

EDIT: Heck, Leif could've also been a staff legendary too since Ethlyn is canonically associated with staves and it's not like Master Knight Leif is especially associated with bows.

I couldn't agree more. I got no focus unit until the spark, then I sparked Peony since I am merging her up.

But this is the 3rd Remix banner that I don't get Peony during the 40 summons. This is painful.

And I am still mad that they moved Peony from January to September without informing us, and now she is in March... which is around A Hero Rises banner.

I was pulling on the other remix banner, but I had the same issue. I don't think I pulled anything on the Hel remix banner until the spark. Don't even think I got any 4-star special heroes.

    Worst banner.
