  1. Glad Lachesis won, though I expect she won't stand a chance against Elise. Hopefully we don't get slaughtered. I'd like to think if she does well it'll be a good wink to IS about fan interest in FE4.

Sad about Mist losing. She's a good character. And it would've been nice to have someone from pre-3DS in the final round. Not sure who of Elise and Lissa will win though.

  2. A diverse cast as far as age, race, etc. I missed having older characters in Awakening since there's always been some in your party and it adds more variety. It's been cool having more and more "not-European" characters too, in all the 3DS games. It's also cool to see them attempt more obvious LGBT characters, and while they haven't all been hits it's something they should keep doing imo.

I really hope they give us a male soldier/ halberdier type character. I love Ephraim, Neph, and Oboro and I wouldn't mind another female lancer, but if I had to choose just one I think another guy is due for. Similarly keep the traditionally gender locked classes open, ie more male peg knights and female fighters.

Personality wise, I just hope there's very minimal player/MC worshipping going on, and no characters based on misguided gimmicks like Peri.

  3. Not sure if I should go with Mist or Lachesis. I like them both and yet I know neither will go past the second round. I kinda feel like Mist is doomed going up against Lissa round 1, so maybe I'll just go with Lachesis. But Lachesis is on Elise's side and she's definitely going to be the winner here.

  4. I don't know if I have a clear set of criteria to determine which characters I dislike.

For example, I dislike Tharja because she's pandering and has a bad design, but I don't dislike Camilla even though she fits that same description. I guess if there's at least something appealing I can grasp on to, then I won't hate the character even if they tick some of the typical boxes for me. Like with Tharja and Camilla, for the latter I can say she's one of the best units in her game and the hints that she suffers from a mental disorder and the small backstory she gets in supports make me find her interesting. Whereas with Tharja, I can't really think of anything that redeems her. To complete this "obsessive 3DS trio" and emphasize my point more, Faye is in the neutral middle, because while she's dull and obsessive she's a very good unit, but there's still nothing that elevates her from "meh" to "interesting" for me.

And then, there are characters like Peri who are just awful on concept alone that I can't even begin to comprehend how anyone could like such a character. And others like Xander, whose role in the plot frustrates me to the point where not even the fact that he's a good unit and has decent supports can save him.

Not like the original two were at all good on the plot and characterization front, they were bad, but not so openly appallingly so.

Bad? Standard maybe, but they were pretty well-executed and enjoyable.

I've hoped for many years for GS4. I feel like it's a definite no at this point and the best we can hope for is some kind of re-release of the first two to to revive the series at some point in the future.

  6. I feel like an interesting one FE hasn't focused on is colonialism. It would be cool to have a story where you get an empire successfully conquering another civilization and the culture clashes that follow. I imagine the main lord would be a royal of the empire and would go through a sort of Jill-esque arc where s/he first sees things as completely black and white, but has to find a balance in order to appease both sides and rule over a relatively peaceful kingdom. Then in the sequel or after a time skip you could play as the other side and claim independence. It would make an interesting twist if you had to fight against the main characters from the first part as characters you previously fought against.

More of an observation. A lot of people who really harp on Awakening seem to like Tellius the most. Maybe they think it should have been the turning point of the series. Who knows?

I know that as a Tellius fan my dislike of Awakening isn't based on "it wasn't more of the same". It's largely because the story and characters did nothing for me.

I liked Fates a lot, for the record.

People take more than enough shots at the 3DS games and their fans. Plus, just look at the reaction to Warriors, its not exactly like they are kind and courteous to new fans.

I mean, I haven't seen anyone on this forum saying "remove all 3DS characters" or "lul just give the Raijinto to Alm". I have seen many people saying they should've included other characters  along with the 3DS ones. But sure.

Be careful what you wish for. If you think the salt so far has been bad, just wait till Lucina shows up.

Its just that those who dont like her can be...loud. Alternatively, imagine the salt storm if she doesnt make it.

I vote b or c. Costumes for the smash amiibo could be cool. Alternatively they could give Chrom Ragnell and watch the fanboys loose their minds.

You really seem to relish in mocking people who don't like the 3DS bias.

  10. I wish they wouldn't call it a love letter to the series when it's really not if you're only including content from 3 games.

How long until they reveal more characters? I kinda expected something after the backlash they got after the first showing.

  11. I've already commented on what I think about the roster limitations, but regarding the gameplay, I just was not as impressed as I was when Hyrule Warriors was shown. FE has so much stuff that may be in this game that wasn't shown but really should've been. Where is the enemy variety? I'm sure Wyverns and Pegasi are in (maybe even some monsters) so why not show some of that? It seemed so dull to only see a bunch of generic soldiers. Where are the bosses? Why not show more stages taken from the main games? Why are the special moves basically just "bigger slashes"? The only cool one was Corrin's. Why is the interface so bland? Why were no features explained or really shown off? And I still say it was dumb to show only sword users, especially after their previous comment. Also, Xander's horse moves very oddly.

  12. Not sure how others feel, but the characters shown didn't really seem to have very different movesets from each other except for Corrin occasionally using dragon power. After making a statement that they didn't want too many sword users, I think they could've made the ones they did include more distinct. I mean, Ryoma has a lightning sword and Xander has a horse, yet they all seem to play basically the same.

After the cast announcement and this presentation I'm definitely fine waiting on this game now.

  13. Going by gameplay...

4: Finn, off the little I played, because his Brave Lance is nice to have.

6: Dieck is very useful right from the start and has pretty good growths (or at least I think so), he's always been a constant VIP in my playthroughs.

7: probably Sain as he's always my preferred cav and is constantly useful with long movement, good hit and attack, and rescue/move capability.

8: Ephraim, it was cool to have a playable lance fighter and he's got the good stats to go with it.

9: Ike, great unit and it's fun getting him to the point where he can defeat the Black Knight.

10: I actually like how Micaiah plays and since she was so different for a main lord, I'll go with her. Sacrifice was an interesting idea that's really only potentially useful early on before you have other healing means, but Thani, Purge, staves, etc. make her fun to play.

    11: Caeda because Wing Spear.

13: kinda hard to choose when everyone easily becomes so broken. I honestly don't know.

14: Camilla for Nohr for having great availability, coming at a very memorable chapter that she absolutely shines in, and staying useful throughout the game. Oboro for Hoshido for being a speedy hard hitting tank.

15: not done yet but it's probably Saber.

I agree with this in theory.  Series like Suikoden and Trails in the Sky have very localized conflicts in the individual games despite taking place in very huge worlds.  It really gets you invested in the area that you're in and interested in playing future games with differing settings as well.  A more popular example of a game series that does this is Pokemon, but I wouldn't exactly consider that franchise to be as story heavy as the previously mentioned ones.  However, I don't think FE actually has done a good job of doing this.  I can't think of anything from Archanea that was referenced in Jugdral other than dragons, or the other way around, for example.  This is a consequence of the games' storytelling being such a one and done affair.  They don't really plan for future games when they're making the current one.  To bring things back to Trails, there are multiple countries on the continent of Zemuria (the setting of the game) and you learn a good deal about them even when you aren't visiting them.  Of course, another reason this is such a problem is because FE in general doesn't have the best of worldbuilding.

tl,dr; it could definitely benefit from doing so, but they'd need to do more future planning than they've done in previous games.

    This would be rad.

I agree with this. For the existing games I find it useless to now try to tie things together because the mythologies are very much separate, and Awakening proves going back to a previous world much later in the future is not really something the writers can pull off. But I love the idea for a 3 or 4 game mini-series that does this. Especially if it's a more "human" story that explores political themes over several decades, like Thane and others suggest, and leaves supernatural stuff to a minimum. I like the latter type of stories just fine but it'd be a nice change.

It would be pretty easy to pull of if they did away with portraits and instead had animated models appear above the dialogue boxes. These models could simple be the same models used in battle animations. Unlike other systems FE was on in the past, the Switch is more than powerful enough to make character models as detailed and good looking as artwork.

This could work. Reminds me of the Bravely games. Although I would miss the art. The battle models have improved greatly and consistently ever since PoR-- you can even see a huge difference from Awakening to SoV-- so I think it would be doable.

  16. I don't think they can go back now. It really adds a lot and generally it seems it was received well due to the high quality work. I think maybe if the cast is a lot bigger, and if supports are longer, those wouldn't be voiced, which I'd be ok with as long as the story has voice acting.

  17. I agree with the general consensus about minimal plot involvment and choices for personality. But I don't think this should determine supports. They'd still spend time writing all the supports and it would basically just be choosing what content you want to lock yourself out of. Then again, having a limited support pool from the get go for the supposed avatar limits player freedom and people would just get upset if they couldn't support their favourite characters. I kind of like the idea of having avatar supports be unique in that you can chose what to reply and have it branch from there, but that would be a lot more writing. I think the easiest option is just to let the avatar support everyone as usual.

As far as classes, make it so you can choose your starting class and reclass options.

  18. Here's what they could've done.

Who are the most popular lords?

Lucina, Corrin, Ike, Roy, Marth. Basically, the Smash crew.

Next, who are the most popular "quasi-lords"?

Robin, Ryoma, Xander, Leo, Takumi, Azura, Camilla, Elise, Hinoka, Sakura.

So far we're at 15 characters. Problem is we have 7 who are mainly sword users. This can be solved as such: Marth uses a fast sword style, Lucina is in the middle, and Ike is the heavy hitter. Roy has fire. Ryoma has lightning and is a samurai. Xander has darkness and is mounted. Corrin turns into a dragon.

Next... we probably want Alm and Celica to promote the upcoming games. As a bonus Alm has the option to use bows and Celica has magic. We're at 17 characters. Still not really an issue as all these sword users fight very differently.

Who else can we add? We probably want fan favourites like Tharja, Tiki, Owain, Caeda, Lyn, and Hector. So far we have all weapons represented except light magic and knives, so let's put in Micaiah, Felicia, and Kaze. 26 characters.

The result, a fair yet diverse and focused cast. Magvel and Jugdral are left out until DLC but it doesn't feel as much of a slap in the face.

I'm saying that as a fan of the Warrior/Musou games, I think some peoples priorities are skewed even though that can be a factor. Will you really buy the game just because X character is in it exclusively?

Also, like others already said, I'm sure you're okay with fanservice when it panders to yourselves, but not when it panders to the most successful games.

Personally, I was looking forward to playing this kind of game with characters I'm fond of. I can't speak for everyone, but I would guess this is what most people would say. I wouldn't prioritize one over the other, but again, using characters I like to beat up enemies in this style is what I was excited for. And now that it's limited to these three games, I basically only have Caeda, Minerva, Leo, Takumi, and Camilla as characters I like but am not crazy about, with not even battles or music from my favourite games to look forward to.

As for the other point, I would've been just as disappointed if the roster had been purely Tellius and Elibe. I always knew there would be more of the newer games, it's only natural, but I hoped there would be fair representation. And not purely through DLC.
