Anacybele
For something that indeed hasn't happened since 1928, the Republicans won the presidency without a Nixon or Bush on the ticket. Maybe this was what Ryan meant then. I might have misunderstood him on TV. Republicans need to stay in control for awhile, so I hope they keep their control in 2018 as well. Zkirsche
I think he would've done much better against Trump and probably won, but shoulda coulda woulda now. The DNC know they've made a huge mistake. I wouldn't be so sure, as far as the DNC are concerned they might prefer Trump over Bernie Sanders simply because of socialism. This is why I'm not fond of Democrats right now, because all the ones who want power like the presidency are too socialist or something else stupid like that. From what I've learned about socialism, it's not much different from communism.
shadowofchaos
Ana, you're generalizing again about something you don't clearly understand. She has nothing to worry about, neither do you.I know that. But man, it's there. It's not that bad where I live... but ohhoho, it's there. Aren't you a naturalized citizen? If so you're a legal citizen, you won't have to worry about deportation. That isn't the concern. solrocknroll
I see no reason to be kind to people who voted against me as a human being. I'd rather drive people away from my cause by attacking them than try to futilely make people believe that I'm worth something. It's not happening. I'd rather be "petty and immature" than bow down to the straightriarchy.
Rezzy
Well, congrats, Ana, your guy won fair and square. I have my reservations, but for the good of the country, I hope he does well as president. The Democrats definitely have to win big in 2018, though I hope the DNC has learned their damn lesson. The lesson to take home is: don't rig your own primary. I'm not sure if Sanders would have won, but I think if Biden had run, he probably would have won. A year ago, many of my friends were hoping he'd run, and I think he would have had more independent appeal than Sanders. Really, the Dems could use some new, young blood. Everybody in contention this cycle was pushing 70, so I don't see any of them re-running.

Nope. http://www.dictionary.com/browse/socialism?s=t http://www.dictionary.com/browse/communism?s=t These two definitions are fairly similar to me. EDIT: The thing is, while some socialist things might work for some smaller countries like some of the ones in Europe or something, the US is huge and has a much larger population. I doubt full out socialism would work nearly as well. Edited November 9, 2016 by Anacybele

I do not at all condone attacking other people just for a harmless choice they made. You're essentially going as low as the people who are causing the hate on LGBT+ people. Do you really want to sink to their level? And I highly doubt that every single person that voted for Trump hates you or other LGBT+ people. I know I don't hate them. There's no reason to hate them if they're good people.

I'd rather be "petty and immature" than bow down to the straightriarchy. Okay, this has gone on long enough. They didn't vote against you as a human being. The vast majority of these people don't even know you exist as a person. Driving these people away makes absolutely no sense, and if these people do retaliate against your "drive" you deserve the ramifications for such behaviors. And ruin it for everyone else? I mean that's not just "petty and immature," it's out and out inane. Socialism practices aren't necessarily the worst thing that can happen, and communism an socialism aren't necessarily the same. It's like comparing a republic to a true democracy or an empire versus a kingdom. There are similarities, but they definitely aren't the same. Augestein
Understood, you don't like the foundation of socialism. I can understand that. It depends on what you value the most. If you don't mind me asking, what DO you value the most in government affairs? Because as of right now, you're the only person that I know that actually is really excited about Trump. This isn't meant to be flame-baiting, I just like getting perspectives, and yours intrigues me more than others right now.

UNLEASH IT
What gets me though is the way that some people are reacting in this thread and on the internet in general. Trump won, and the first thing people did was condemn those who voted for him as racist/sexist/homophobic, which is the same exact thing that the media and the Hillary campaign has been doing for the past year and a half and one the major things that ultimately propelled Trump to the presidency. You saw the results of blindly antagonizing Trump supporters, so why do you continue? It's this elitist, dismissive mindset that liberals have developed over the past few years that made me dislike them, despite being a liberal myself. I hope that Trump winning serves as a wake up call to you people, that the America you proclaim to see and the one that's actually there are two completely different things. But judging by some of the posts in this thread and posts on the wider internet, people still have their heads stuck far up their own asses. Yojinbo
I understand that Trump is considered sexist and racist ... because he is. But is he actually a homophobe? Between all the awful things he said about different people I can't remember anything damning coming from him about homosexual people. From what I could gather he seems to be largely indifferent towards the whole matter.

Nobody
Socialism nowadays has no true meaning. Some say it only means the actually horrible socialism that plagued eastern europe, cuba and north korea that consists in the state controlling everything and abolishing private property. Then some people call democratically socialism just socialism. Then there are people who call social democrats socialist and then there are many who go as far as calling social liberals that believe in the welfare state socialists, which imo makes no sense. It'd get less confusing if bernie sanders called himself what he actually is, a either democratic socialist or social democrat (i'd say his rethoric is democratic socialist and his policies are a mix of both), rather than a socialist. Sweden (and other nordic countries) is IMO not socialist, for exemple. It has a extremely open market, that values free trade and private property and very balanced budgets. It only has a very strong welfare state, paid by high taxes. That is not socialism for me, not even democratic socialism. It's like a mix of social democracy and social liberalism.
