Huh

Are we getting bamboozled here

I mean, that sounds great, regardless of what happened prior.

No I’m playing on Hard/Classic. Honestly I’m probably still in shock that Engage has presented two characters I’m in danger of actually possibly giving a crap about.

NOOOOOO ARMAGON HOW COULD YOU DO THIS, YOUVE RUINED THE ENTIRE GAME FOR ME

I WAS MEMEING

No but seriously Framme is doing so well. Biggest redemption arc in the game, went from being absolute dogshit to actually being good.

Reject Framme, embrace Jean.

I benched them both a while ago.

...what I'm getting at is, I have second seals. I have an Alfred. How did I not realize this before? This game's reclassing system is so good.

Is it? Don’t you need to spend time messing around with Emblems? Does that work well? I haven’t used it yet.

Only issue is I have no Emblem to teach staves right now. Hopefully one will join without much delay.

Micaiah?

Might make Timerra into a bow knight too, and see how she  compares against her brother. I like both her and Fogado, but I haven't much room and Vandad is the lance specialist already.

Weak.

Engage secretly being the game to unite the story fans and gameplay fans.

On my way to uni for the day, I decided to leave my Switch behind so I could maybe sneak in a bit more of Ocarina of Time. Will continue Fire Emblem when I get back, maybe.

Unlike Pierre-Polnareff, Jean honestly kind of sucks. I know he's the villager gimmick but Donnel and especially Mozu cleared.

Haha, not exactly because they're fliers.

Not much help during the mid-game.

That's also another big negative concerning that part of the game. You pretty much lose Emblem Weapon Proficiencies which limits your reclassing shenanigans. So you either do it before Chapter 10... or you have to wait until way late in the game.

Tbf Bond Fragments are handed out like candy in this game and doing the arena just gives you levels for free.

SP on the other hand is uh....

The thing is, training with emblems is literally just "buy bond ranks for an outrageously low amount of... I forgot what the thing Sommie poops is called." You pay 100 of those per rank, which you can get just by talking to characters after one battle, and you jump to whatever rank you need for proficiencies. That's it. You can't promote into classes without being in their base class, bu you can promote and then reclass, which skips the base class requirement.

What this all amounts to is, once you are promoted you can just do whatever you feel like. And unlike other games, you don't have to go through E rank hell. Ranks are good no matter what. So reclassing is extremely free, way more than it ever was in Houses, funnily enough.

I called it a hassle but that was before I realized that Bond Ranks could just be bought like packs of gum at Walmart.

For a future run tho.

Heck, the completionist in me is already gonna wait for until the entire DLC gets released, so this first playthrough is more of a casual run. Once I have everything at my disposal, however...

Ah, you've met Pamela. She's one of the few recurring characters in the series. In the modern series, she's shown up in every continuity except Dusk (though in Secret, her name is Pamila).

If you couldn't tell by the portrait, she's a ghost. She's always a ghost. Cue shenanigans if another character is afraid of ghosts.

Yeah, she made that clear first thing, how else could she survive every Big Crunch that sees Atelierverse reborn again? The local children didn't mind playing with her though.

I didn't exactly feel sated last night, so I decided skip XS for today and did a morning session of AI:EM instead. Was able to begin early b/c I have little to read/comment on in this topic right now b/c you've been playing why. Felt still a little too asleep for XS-attentiveness too.

Let's see, a little few minor requests to slowly begin the story, obtained the Fire Mana pal, third party member, heroine is special and hiding something, one pervy scene, a boss fight with some evil knights (their leader being comical). Passed through the resting place of the titular Iris, who has yet to be explained, got the Dark Mana too. Met a serious guy who stole something important from Lita, said guy had in an earlier scene without the heroes was stated as trying to defy the laws of nature, test his power, and perhaps destroy the world. Boss fight with cat mage (game over'ed once b/c her minion buffed them like crazy, killed it real easy on the second try), who then joined up as the fourth playable character. Despite being a servant of another alchemist, she can't Synthesize or use Mana Items, Klein only. Klein seems slow and slightly fragile as his drawbacks for having the great powers of alchemy, not good when the turn system doesn't prevent anyone from getting their next turn before everyone has gone once. The save screen indicates room for six playable characters, only 3 active in battle at once, but you can swap a character on their turn for anyone in the reserves, with them being able to immediately act, excellent; halved EXP gain for the reserves is a slight criticism of mine.

And that's where I stopped. It's early enough that you're fine with this info-dumping, right?😅

Also a couple instances of graphical glitching, surprising for an almost purely 2D game. More frequent is the voice acting getting cau-cau-cau-cau-ght on a line, but thankfully I can still proceed with the text, no freezing. I suppose it's the emulation to blame.

It has been rescued from lost media hell.

I tried it, it plus FEH made me realize mobile gaming wasn't for me. Too much daily grind, also too simplistic. Would be a little less tedious with a controller instead of tapping your fingers into numbness on a screen.

There might be a chance of Cease & Desist being thrown at the servers. I thought I heard of that happening before.

I'd say, that also tends to get me. Just, that kind of system in general. The most I poured into was the Star Trek MMO, spending several years there before I too reached my limit. Even FEH I dropped only a month or two after release. I only picked it up to get the code for Engage, and it was back to gather digital dust.

As it stands, the only one I put an effort is Another Eden, because I do find it fun even to this day.

Typically only the titular alchemist(s) of the game can synthesize. The one exception to this is Sophie 2, where Past!Plachta can also synthesize and there are specific items only she can make. And that was last year, so imagine that.

Not being able to use items is odd though, i take it there's a distinction with Mana Items? In Arland and Dusk, only alchemist characters can use items. Starting in Mysterious, Gust realized that limit was kinda arbitrary so they removed it (even though they brought it back temporarily for Lulua - Arland 4, and that game has three alchemist characters+2 more as DLC).

Klein being fragile is to be expected, the alchemists usually are (though they took it too far with Totori, girl gets KO'd by paper). Now idk about Iris but in Atelier, levels don't matter that much, it's all about the quality of the items and equipment you make.

Honestly it'll probably be a while before i even play those games so idk mind the info-dumps. Like i said, i'm curious about someone's first-hand account with the game. Classic Atelier is uncharted territory for me.

OK, not really, Alistair died, twice, and I'm running a little low on mana potions. But once Shale (w/ anti-fire armour) drew most of the aggro, things went pretty well.

Spoiler

And while I did like this section of the game, it's a bit weird that we search and find what's basically the Holy Grail and the whole quest is... pretty short and staightforward. When the whole thing was foreshadowed in Lothering, I expected that it might be a central element in DA2, since I didn't think there would be room for such a monumental quest besides what's already established in DAO. I was surprised that it ended up as a part of a part of the main quest.
