Kaga looked at Xavier's recruitment and said "but what if we were to go further beyond".

Now back to that Ironman, I had a lot of bad luck. Shannon failing to dodge far too many of the swordsman (even with the Balmung) to even pretend fighting the Dark mages that were following is safe, and I mess up a very early move that left Seliph injured as well, so I had to take this chapter at the movement pace of the healers, which means the boss gets his Fenrir tome. With that I have to wait for Julia to slowly march through that Fenrir range (while using Ulster as a lightning rod for the Fenrir hits, with Lana adjacent to heal him back to full every turn...), which means I am seizing Yied on turn 22 (so 334 overall)

Whelp a single misclick cost me 17 turns...

Ok, I had a plan for dealing with the Ishtroll, due to some clever sales and inheritance, Lana had the Silence staff, and while the first boss had far too much resistance to neutralize with it, if Lana could gain enough levels on the trek to Melgen, silencing the Ishtroll was entirely in the cards. With the help of a bit more clever inheritance plans, Nanna had the means to get Leif and her back to the main castle (what happened to Finn really was an unfortunate stroke of bad luck, and poor risk management on my part..), and I arenaed with them to give her some people to heal in transit (and with Fee getting fairly injured recovering the Defense ring from the village as well, it is looking like I timed it perfect, where she got the needed magic just in time, and just like first generation I accidentally waited instead of using the Silence staff...in range of two ballista...and the troll himself...Fortunately Nanna could use the rescue staff, and canto to use the rescue band trick again, but then I had to wait 17 torturous turns of her slowly marching back to try again, all thanks to one little misclick... ugh...Well its turn 52 now (364 overall), and Melgen is seized

Recruiting Tinni is always a little tricky, but I managed to do it in a fairly timely fashion thanks Julia Nosferatu tanking a choke point I lured her to, so as her brother talks, she retreats, and Julia takes her place (and heals up Arthur, as he has been near half health, vantage wrathing for a while, but even with the magic ring he is frustratingly just shy of safely one-shoting far too many enemies...). The Armored knights are unfortunately well timed, so wiping out the rest of the mage squad was a bit dicey, but we managed to survive it still (just barely...). The cavalry and Sleiph have been dealing with Darna at the same time, so here we are on turn 59 seizing it (so 371 overall).

Well this is an awkward moment in the ironman, we retake Leonster on turn 71 (so 383 overall), Blume is the only thing left alive, and oddly enough Arthur is one of the ones chipping away at him thanks to his high resilience and wrath. Unfortunately I forgot to Arena with Shanan while we were next to Melgen, so is was a little too risky to try using him, and Ares had to recruit Lene, so he hasn't bee there long to try and help out. If I had been a bit luckier with my hits and Pavises, he would be dead by now, but I guess I wanted to retake Leonster anyway. I think I will wait on the unit report until end of chapter, as there is one enemy left, and they should be finished soon...

Cleared chapter 7 on turn 75. Arthur managed to grab the kill on his uncle before Ares could wipe him out (or for Shanan to return from the Arena...)

Hmmm.

I might try out TearRing Saga in the future

Go ahead! I would describe it as a game of high highs and low lows. There are some maps and story beats that are utter shit, but then there's other maps and story beats that are absolutely amazing. Also, gaiden-esque route split except you get to decide which units go where, and many of them have exclusive events in both. That's honestly awesome.

In my opinion, the highs of the game more than compensate for the lows. The game is really creative, really bizarre in some respects, and I like that, personally. But you'd have to play the game to decide for yourself.

6 hours ago, Armagon said:

So it definitely sounds like i'll have to keep a recruitment guide tab open.

I disagree. Letena is impossible to recruit blind, but if you don't fulfill her requirements you get a different character that serves the exact same function as her and is almost completely similar to her. There's one guy that you'll almost certainly miss the first time around, but he's not vital or anything (heck, I'm pretty sure he was intentionally made to look extremely unplayable), and he's the kind of unit that I love, so you wouldn't use him anyway. There's also one unit that joins if another unit is dead, but she joins later anyway, so it doesn't matter. Everything else is pretty straightforward, provided you pay a bit of attention to the characters and don't split up people with obvious connections.

That being said, if you want a recruitment guide, by all means use it. All I'm saying is that I don't think it's really that vital. This game isn't Thracia 776. Heck, it's more on the easy side, you could probably beat it just with the prepromotes that the game hands you for free.

One character might be easily missable if you don't pay attention to geography being mentioned.

6 hours ago, Interdimensional Observer said:

Well no, not that, I meant you're told "There is a nice person I'd want to go with you, but they aren't back yet". You aren't really told who that person is, the clue being in a character's title -displayed alongside their name- and the location of the chapter. It's not obvious enough that I could see them being 100% unmissable.

Ergh... Okay, maybe this is a dumb question, but I've played this game four times and I've no idea what you're talking about. Who is this? Please tell me in a spoiler.

How about the Leteena event, which requires you to:

  Reveal hidden contents
  1. After Map 8, put both Kreiss and Arkis in Holmes's army.
  2. After Map 10, in Holmes's route, go back to Wellt Castle and select Ezekiel (alternatively, the player can select him before Map 2). Note that Sasha (recommended), Kate, Roger, Raffin, Estelle, or Norton must be in Holmes's army.
  3. Go to Verge (the town between Maps 1 and 2). An event will occur.
  4. After Map 13 but before Map 14, visit Marl Harbor and watch the cutscene. Afterwards, go back and visit Verge again. Make sure Kreiss has an Healing Drop in his inventory.
  5. After Map 15 but before Map 16, head back to Verge. This time, make sure Kreiss has an Amulet in his inventory.
  6. After Map 19, go back to Verge.
  7. After Map 23, put Kreiss in Runan's army.
  8. In Map 25, the Leteena Event will occur in the lower right house between Leteena and Marco, one of the Dragon Knights. Make Kreiss defeat Marco, and then visit this house. Afterwards, Leteena will join instead of Rebecca.
  9. After the third route split up, an event will occur between Kreiss and Leteena.
  10. From here, the player will have two options, either A) Leteena will leave, or B) both Leteena and Kreiss will leave, unless Ezekiel is recruited.

Spoiler

She just leaves after all that effort?

Not sure why people always have to bring up Leteena immediately to a potential new player. A subject couldn't be more trivial.

I could sort of understand if Rebecca didn't exist. As it is, Letena amounts to little more than a nifty little easter egg to get on repeat playthroughs. I mean, she's barely more than a reskin of Rebecca. That's like saying Stefan alone means the Tellius games are obscure and terrible and Kaga does everything wrong. C'mon. TRS is not without flaws, but impossible recruitments is not one of them.

You know, in a game where you can't escape from battles without the use of specific items, giving certain enemies the ability to revive other enemies with full(?) health is a bullshit move.

I'm not entirely sure, but my old guide said those undead enemies can each use it only once per battle. Still annoying yeah, not sure why they didn't just inflate their HP a little then?

I'm referring to

Spoiler

Lyria. Recruited in Blahd, Attrom has the title "Youth of Blahd". But I don't think it's that transparent.

Or, maybe I'm underestimating what a blind player could figure out. I admittedly never played any old FE totally blind, I more or less always had a guide, and the modern FE just gives you every unit. As a result, I'm not sure what the thinking mind is capable of figuring out on its own.

Ohhh, right, right... I forgot about that one. Probably because in my last TRS run he was dead.

I seem to recall that he shows up in a cutscene right before arriving at the place, but I could be wrong.

I would at least advice to have Enteh and Barts return to their village before clearing the map. Having them move all the way back rather then backing you up in your charge isn't all that intuitive.
Otherwise I don't see anything particularly worth noting.

They're fine besides the swamp ones, imo. Those are just way too slow and you have literally no options/flexibility in how you tackle them, making them boring on later playthroughs.

Arvis was probably still too powerful to take his friggin' child from him. By the time Julius grew up and effectively became the big man of the Empire, Deirdre had already sacrificed herself to ensure Julia's escape, so there was nothing he could do anymore but look around for her - which he did, obviously.

That does make sense. What doesn't make as much sense is something that happens in the final chapter.

Did he not know who she was? She should have been dead long before she ever had the chance to conceive a child

(other than Seliph anyway)

is what I’m thinking. But then again I haven’t finished the game, so maybe there’s plot reasons.
