  1. I'm not one to complain about Phoenix mode, but I do think it's a bit ridiculous. If they want a mode where a player can just enjoy the story without having to worry about playing the game, they might as well just have a full skip mode of some sort where your units are invincible and you can set the game to auto. I actually would like this, myself, as I sometimes would like to just experience the story of a game again, but don't necessarily want to "play" it.
  2. Yeah, if you know what you're doing. This has been my point all along. Ilyana? You literally can't know how to use her in this way unless you've played the game through or heard about it from elsewhere. What about the stat boosters available from Aimee's Bargains? Even skilled players will be tight on cash if they go buying those. People are having a lot of hindsight bias here when it comes to talking about how "useless" weapon durability has been. It's easy when you know all the inner workings, not so much when you don't.
  3. You're not the only one, and honestly, this talk of "Oh Nohr is going to be sooo difficult" is a lot of wild reaching. I really doubt Nohr is going to be significantly different than, say, Radiant Dawn normal mode. This is a bad example. The Silver Card is only available in the hard modes and the killer shop is in a remote corner of the map, unmarked, and requires an item acquired in that same chapter that might easily have been missed. And after thinking about it, I'm really not sure how much I agree with the idea that conservation was never a problem in older FE titles. We can say it's easy in hindsight, but first time players don't know all the tricks. It can be easy to miss certain sellable items and good weapon drops, and then we also had Radiant Dawn with Aimee's Bargains where even skilled players would be strapped for cash if they wanted the goods. When you know a game well enough, pretty much anything can be made trivial, and I don't think weapon and money conservation was inherently so simple. Except maybe in Path of Radiance once they dump you with 70,000 for free... And there's stuff like effective and Prf weapons that are available early but sometimes aren't ever buyable at all, and so the player must take caution as to when to make the best use of them. I'm not opposed to unlimited weapon uses (yet), but I think it's wrong to say weapon durability was never really a factor.
  4. If it requires external devices, that falls in line with what I said and should not be considered an acceptable alternative to actual save slots.
  5. I don't know much about it, but isn't that a lot more complicated? That really shouldn't be considered a solution if it is.
  6. It's not uncommon these days, actually. I remember Kingdom Hearts having something like 99, and Skyrim is basically unlimited. You often don't even have to worry about them being in the game these days, as you can just make a fresh account on consoles and have blank data in the games (and still have access to DLC). If there's one thing about Pokemon that really needs updating, it's the amount of save slots.
  7. It's about damn time. I had no idea why they reduced the number of available slots after RD. Do they really take up that much space? After I've played through the game a couple times, I often do themed runs that I don't always finish immediately, so it will be very nice to not have to cut some out to try something else.
  8. For the record, I did: @other stuff, there's no reason to think the respawns per map will be limited. Casual respawns are not limited and they have not suggested any form of it. Putting this out there is basically just trying to justify it with, "Well it might not be that bad" to the people who dislike it, but it's not really going to change much.
  9. That sounds like a nice idea, but I don't think it will be the case myself. I think it's more likely that purchases will be limited (a shop only contains 2 Iron Swords, for example), and/or weapons will be comparatively more expensive than before.
  10. That requires thought to know how it works. A new player won't likely realize that can work (especially since Pair Up isn't actually available on normal for the first few maps in Awakening). Phoenix mode sounds like you can literally know nothing about how the game works and just throw any unit in and win. In any case, the point is general. Awakening isn't the only FE with Casual mode. I'm not very concerned about a particularly broken mechanic steamrolling one game's normal mode. It works just as well in classic as it does in casual, anyway, so you might as well be arguing that normal mode takes no thought.
  11. This is actually a very good point I hadn't thought of. Due to map shopping in Sacred Stones and Awakening, and due to the way shops worked in Radiant Dawn (and somewhat in Path of Radiance), weapon durability didn't matter a whole lot anyway in those games, because any weapon you've bought once you can easily buy again, and money has never been extremely tight. So long as the system is implemented well, I will probably be fine with it.
  12. I think there was a lot of stuff going on in my head in that scene that I didn't actually write down, lol. Basically, I was imagining Ragnell making a lot of noise, and given Ike's stance, possibly him being louder still. How in the actual fuck did this double post? Shit's weird over here.
  13. Micaiah: "Ike, turn your sword fire off! I'm trying to read."
  14. More options is not always a good thing. I can understand why people who are fine with Casual are not fine with Phoenix. Casual still requires thought to get through; Phoenix just lets you kamikaze without a care in the world. It sounds like a joke or cheat mode. Oh, and let's be a little less spammy, k?
  15. Jesus Christ this topic blew up fast. Phoenix mode seems kinda dumb, but whatever, I won't be playing it. Unlimited weapon usage I'm mixed on. On one hand, if it's balanced well, I could see it being okay, but with weapon weight removed and now this, it feels like all the strategy in picking the right weapon is gone and is now just "strongest available weapon every time." And how is shopping going to work if we only need one Iron Sword for everyone who can use one instead of needing to stock up?
  16. $1,000,00 has been passed. I often see Kickstarter campaigns with stretch goals that look completely absurd, but this...I think this has the potential to reach whatever stretch goal they want to put in.
  17. This is what happens when Sully is Lucina's mother. Hopefully one day people will be able to hack the Wii U and replace Lucina's original lines in Smash with Laura Bailey's Saints Row 3/4 lines.
  18. Miriam looks great. Game looks great. If we don't get a new Metroid game, hopefully this can help fill the gap. I checked the Kickstarter a few hours ago and it was in the 500k range, now it's over 800k. Wow.
  19. You said "casual lucina main: i guess i'll use f smash at around 120%." It's a known fact that killing takes longer in Smash 4 than in Melee, so exact percentages are not a good way to compare. Maybe not "mechanical," but whatever term you want to use, it's about the difference between games. Rage is also a thing in Smash 4. And, like, it doesn't even really have anything to do with Roy or Lucina being more or less a clone than the other in the first place. In both cases, the attack only has statistical changes.
  20. And for the most part, I don't think those differences are as easily noticeable except the neutral B. Yes, he has differences, and I did say that Roy and Lucina are about the same level of clone. Lucina's difference can largely be summed up in one sentence (iirc there are actually some other small things, but they're more in-depth than I care to worry about right now), but it really makes a big difference. And that's all I'm saying.
  21. For one, this can at least partially be attributed to mechanical differences in the games. For two, I've killed with Lucina's f smash at 80%. But I guess you can wait until 120% if you're trying to kill across the stage. Yes. Every single one of Lucina's attacks acts differently from Marth's. Roy's weight and falling speed may be different from Marth's, but it's only to a very slight degree. The only things Lucina shares with Marth are attack animations, height, weight, and falling speed. Personally, I find Lucina's differences from Marth more notable than just having a few altered stats and a fire effect that doesn't actually do anything except look cool. Visuals aside, it's harder to tell the difference between Marth and Roy than Marth and Lucina.
  22. You make a good point. Both cases where the characters may seem similar at first glance and you have to actually play them for more than a minute to notice the difference.
  23. It's in different ways, but when it comes down to it, Roy and Lucina are actually about the same level of clone in Smash. How can you say Roy "actually had some differentiation from Marth" when Lucina's difference (even damage across the blade) is arguably much more easily noticeable?
  24. Isn't that Japan only? Unless it's being live-streamed, I highly doubt a Smash reveal would happen there. It was most likely not Sakurai who put those files there.
