I don't really buy only four Totems, since all the Trial captains thus far have been apparently on Akala and that would mean a lack of Electric Totem.

Wasn't it confirmed that there is one trial captain and then one totem Pokemon per island? Meaning 4 of each. Also while there has never not been an electric gym, I think it is more fitting the totems are the more "natural" elements found in abundance in Alola if there is only four. At least we know one guardian deity is electric.

The locations where two of the four Trial Captains are met are pretty clearly on Akala. Kiawe is on the volcano, Lana is at the spot where there are a bunch of Waterfalls, and I think Mallow is on an Akala forest too actually (according to the Lurantis description)

There was one in Kanto. Kanto and Johto didn't share any gym themes, and this was done intentionally.

Turns out there are at least more than 4 trial captains, and we already know one is an electric specialist. However there are 4 Kahunas and it seems like Hala uses Tapu Koko, which is electric as well. Although it would be neat to see more multitype trainers around.

All of it sounds really cool and something I want in Sun and Moon, but I really REALLY dislike the idea of Synchro Evolution unless it's just a temporary buff and not Mega Evolution 2.0.

Z-Moves don't break the Meta game like Mega Evolution did, and I'd be very happy if it stopped there.

Nah don't worry, Ash-Greninja is through Bond Phenomenon, not Synchro-Evolution. They're different.

Ash-Greninja will probably stay as Anime only unless Ash is actually put into the main series.

To be fair, Greninja is currently the most popular Pokemon in Japan- cashing in on it would make sense.

And it's not like it would be as stupidly overpowered in-game as it is in the anime... right?

...I mean, considering Greninja is already extremely good with Protean and its moveset, chances are it will be.

My main gripe is it seems like a mega evolution re-hash, not to mention its association with Ash, who really needs to leave permanently the show sometime soon, to avoid hitting another self-reset button.

Besides, Greninja isn't over pandered in the games yet, and unlike a certain over-pandered lizard has a decent design.
