I am impressed over and over with how much better Japanese voice actors tend to convey emotion and the tone of a scene more accurately than the English voices do. On the topic of Zelda, this scene in BotW perfectly demonstrates how this is typically true. The Japanese is first, and the English second. I think this has a lot to do with voice direction. You can be a talented voice actor all you want, but if the direction sucks rear ends, then there's only so much you can do. Case in point: Hyperdimension Neptunia Re;Birth 1's English dub is much, MUCH worse than Megadimension Neptunia VII's, even though the characters that appear in both games are voiced by the same people (with one exception). Also, Japanese voice actors are much more high profile people than the ones over in the West (in the sense that theirs are practically celebrities), so I could fathom that the training to become a voice actor in Japan is much, much stricter and competition a lot higher.
