Yeah I noticed, that’s why I’m wondering what “the end of all things, if you know, you know” is about. And stuff.

What?! How could you possibly get such an impression? That is not at all what I intended for you guys to get from my posts.

Anyway, tomorrow we fight for nothing and nowhere. If you know, you know.

Also

Spoiler

Not an actual spoiler just messing with Sooks's head.

Honestly though

Spoiler

Sundown's hat is the true villain? Interesting maneuver, Live a Live.

Best thing about XC3's combat to me so far: how teamwork is integraded into strategy and general combat.

Its a personal favorite when a group has to work together to overcome challenges rather than single handed gamebreaking options that control the game (CS im looking at you)

Even options like interlinking which at firsthand seems broken, has a well designed drawback attached.

Oh, nice, enjoy Cold Steel II’s epilogue! See, I know what game you’re playing.

Black Hole Disruptor? *Jumps through the rest of the video.* So they did invent a new attack for him. Given what you've said of DD gatcha-ing the attacks, not the units themselves, makes sense. The magic circles remind you that Shu has worked some La Gias tech into the Granzon. I like it.

I always recommend Inca  Terrace farms are beautiful yield porn, and having full movement through hills (including forest/jungle hills) is very very nice. It's only too bad that their unique unit is pretty garbage, since it can't protect workers/settlers. But they're genuinely really good (personally, I'd only rank Poland and Babylon higher) because they can get so much food and production if they spawn near a mountain range.

I did try a Highlands with them. The first I rolled trapped me totally alone within mountain ranges. Then I stopped playing the second when Portugal sniped the last religion two or three turns from my Great Prophet spawning for me. Maybe I could reload a few turns and try again for the Prophet, but the map was kinda boring, too readily defensible, and the Inca were too readily powerful. Instead of too hard, it was too easy, and yet I complained.😆

Maybe I'll try a Donut with Pacha instead? Put mountains in the middle and see if I can surround the "hole" to great benefit?

Presently, I decided Germany on Emperor Continents (low sea level for a little extra room, I got four good cities up). Delaying war for forever has made everyone friendly to me. The Celts got their second city Settler stole by barbs and a tundra capital so Boudicca is heavily lagging behind, as is Persia because Rome is owning the other continent (got the first ideology and has a 28 pop capital) and took their capital. Three of the other continent's capitals on the coast, so I could easily take them when I finally unleash the German war machine. Surprisingly, my neighbor Maria Theresa hasn't married any city-states, which is good for my Hanses. I'm building Public Schools at the moment and I'm one turn away from my third Factory for an Ideology. Germany + Autocracy is historically accurate and perfect ingame too, but Rome picked it, so I'll grab Order for the extra early adopter free tenet instead and eventually Iron Curtain (Germany is also the weirdo that likes the Kremlin). Honestly I'm doing well enough I could keep a separate save and try Freedom on this map instead for a Science win.

Little word of warning - going wide is generally not recommended, unless you have a really crappy capital. Normally, because you centralise so much of your population (Tradition is the best first culture tree like 95% of the time) and science in your capital (National College, yo), adding more cities will slow down your overall tech (and culture) rate. Three cities can be decent enough if they have a lot of food (like, for example, in a Polder Paradise), four is often the goldilock number, five can be fine if there's enough good spots and enough happiness (i.e. luxuries, unless you have the most awesomest religion, or a unique building with extra happiness) to support it.

Yeah, I've read about the typical 4-city Tradition-filler policies-Rationalism-Freedom easy approach. And maps on Standard size feel too small for more than four -often three I find- quality cities. So unless I'm doing something like Archipelago (I had fun on one with Liberty-Exploration-Order Carthage, those free Harbors resolve your early income woes, and Exploration is +3 Happiness per coastal city) or that that Poly-Terra gimmick I've been trying (I find it isn't as broken as it sounds. The new world usually doesn't have enough non-City State-owned luxuries and it takes a while to get your first Settler to swim over there, after which you need to save all your gold to buy more Settlers in that second city.), I do stick with Tradition. I want to go bigger on a non-oceanic map, I'll tweak the settings and try Large or even Huge.

As for the National College, I've seen people say "get it and three or four cities up by turn 90", which leaves me asking how that is possible. It usually takes me more like turn 120 to get it built.

Of the three hexagonal "modern" Civilization games, I think Beyond Earth got the tall vs. wide balance the best. It should've shifted some of the building yields into population, made populations > 10 easier to rapidly grow, and had use for specialists outside of the African Union. Nonetheless, Health in the earlygame was important to keep from getting too negative, but not as suffocating like Happiness, nor as trivial as Amenities. Nonetheless, I usually found myself comfortable and done expanding after about five or seven cities. Which was helped by aquatic cities making the entire map inhabitable, the AI could still box me in (usually passive aggressively, as in "I'm not planting a city there even though it's kinda close to my established territory b/c I know gunboats will come knocking"), but it wasn't so bad. Health tended to spiral out of control in BE once you got enough Affinity bonuses unlocked, I mostly played peaceful and ended up with a surplus 100 Health by the game's end. Conquest could make Unhealth more prevalent, though it not ever affecting unit strength was a blow against it as a penalty. With another expansion that never came but should've, Beyond Earth stood a chance of balancing expansion and growth.

I shall await the remake

That won't happen until the Switch's successor. It has been questioned if the Switch can handle Xenoblade Chronicles X, and I think developer interviews might have said as much.

Perhaps XC3 disproves the technical infeasibility of XCX on Switch, but then the Switch is also an aging console. If X got ported to it, it would be nearing the end of its lifespan, even with the supply chain shortages likely to drag out this generation a little longer. Considering we will have two XC tiles, their sizable DLC stories, and an HD remake of the first game all on the Switch, the system is bloated with Xenoblade. Monolith Soft is likely going to want to go super hard on the visuals and performance of Xenoblade Chronicles X2, as the first game was nothing short of spectacular for the Wii U. They will want to move beyond the Switch, which I imagine they've reached the limits of with XC3, and get some stronger tech, which means the Switch successor. At which point, it is worth asking, if you're going to put X2 on Switch 2, then what system would you put a rerelease of its predecessor on?

Considering there is a fairly minor, but sorta important online component to XCX, would Monolith want to keep some servers running for their older game? I'm not sure. X2 would be a direct sequel to XCX, which you'd think means a rerelease of the prior game to give the many people who didn't play the first game a chance to discover the characters and world they would be encounter in media res in the sequel. I'm not entirely sure of that, however. XCX has the shortest, lightest, and weakest main story of all Xenoblade games, you could summarize what happened over the course of X1 fairly readily. For that reason, I could see them opting for just that- an ingame summary, with no X1 rerelease.

So X1 on Switch, X1 on Switch 2? I honestly don't know, I wouldn't say anything is guaranteed including whether we'll get X2.

Is it bitter of me to say I eagerly await the end of XC3's DLC so they can hopefully move on to X2?

Incidentally, I didn't mention it, but they added some subtle, yet impactful implications to the plot of the Medieval chapter. I'll not say what until I've someone to discuss it with, but... Yeah.

This is amazing. I can still hardly believe this happened. They can go ahead and remake Chrono Trigger or Final Fantasy 6 or Dragon Quest Whichever or Fucksticks Ten now, for all I care. I've won already. Feels good to be the Rubster right now.

...Though personally I'm hoping for Treasure of the Rudras. I want the game where you can kill enemies by casting Shit to be actually fun.

In hindsight, the inciting incident in Xenoblade 3 wasn't quite as epic as the other two games, even if it had Mr. Wild Ride, but the end of Chapter 2 made up for it.

Since I'm on Chapter 3 now, the Hero system is going to be available soon, right? Riiiiiiight?

2 hours ago, Sooks said:

Did I call it boring? I just think it completely kills the pacing and the main plot goes from building up your team and getting ready to take on the war to dicking around Erebonia doing random side objectives (and I’m not talking about the side quests, I mean this is what some of the actual main quests felt like). Which… maybe is the same thing, idk.

That's kind of the same thing, unless you think those random side objectives are not boring.

Spoiler

And it makes sense that the party wouldn't jump into the war guns blazing, they are high schoolers after all (and one alcoholic 25 year old). Even if they tried to beat up the noble armies, they would fail because of the Azure Knight. They would need Cassius to do that.

I’m not saying they need to jump into the war guns blazing, I’m just saying the stuff they do get into is rather dull and slow paced in comparison to everything they came before it. Which… I guess is boring, yeah.

Order is excellent for domination, honestly. You get a lot of happiness from the Lv.1 tenets, which I personally value higher than Autocracy's direct warfare bonuses. (Plus, I don't like playing as the nazis out of principle)
