  1. Isn't it stated in the Japanese that the "Valla" Corrin gets isn't the floating dead kingdom, but a new country made of lands taken from Nohr and Hoshido? And yes, Bern is given to Guinevere. Grado is given independence, though its new government is unclear. And Plegia is the name of Gangrel's kingdom.
  2. I think Elma gave a more subtle hint of it when you step out into the sunshine from Starfall Basin and she says "your body can take the fall" if you considering going off the cliff in front of you. Isn't that a little weird? And, the Mimeosome Maintenance Center is a landmark from the very start. You won't know exactly what that means, I don't think the NPCs outside of it talk about Mims at the time, but thats still a big giveaway. Somehow didn't notice it though, the Chapter 5 scene got me. The Atma-Avatars were mostly designed without eyes, because they're a feature that predominates our attention. The absence of eyes increases our focus on the mouths, which is important in Digital Devil Saga. My own stupidity of the day- Multi-Strike deals 2-7 hits of Physical damage, enemy reflects Phys and Pierce can't penetrate Repel. Now I understand what it feels like to be shot with your own machine gun. Knowing what part you're probably talking about, it's Elma at her most badass.😎
  3. The inverse wouldn't make for a good finale, unless there was a pitched battle of epic proportions outside of the capital or Temple Where The Ultimate Weapon/Dragon Is Charging Up To Kill Everyone. Say... Chapter 21 Binding Blade with some modifications to make it feel more final? Zephiel concedes misanthropic annihilation outside of Bern's borders is impossible, so he keeps Idunn close and churning out more dragons, while he actually educates his people in how not to be human trash and how to seek their own mass suicide one day when another king of Bern has conquered the world. Alternatively, keeping things short of total conquest works well for a secondary, non-final enemy. They distract you from the main threat, so deal a decisive blow and if they're rational you sue for peace afterwards. You could make a mini-gameplay choice in this. Do you make peace with the secondary enemy to focus on the main one, knowing well they could break the terms negotiated and return to war with you later? Or do you eradicate the secondary enemy because you fear them, at the cost of leaving your defenses against the main enemy undermanned?
  4. It's possible to have children and still oppose birthright. I know very well a fictional person who, despite being born into generations of privilege and talent, has an insatiable desire to see the world turned into a meritocracy -if that is what Edelgard also stands for, as I know her not. (One could -half-jokingly- call said character gay too, due to their obsession with strength causing them to develop an intense attraction to the main character.)
  5. Of the 5 battles I've gone through on Saturday, with only one left, 3 of them nearly killed me (okay the last got me GOs twice). I admit, I was ignoring every "caution, go slow" sign for the first one, and the second time I wasn't thinking things through at all. Then for the third time, it was the battle with the very appropriate name "Strong Breaker", there's practically only one, kinda cheesy, strategy to win this, it's otherwise maddeningly difficult, but would you expect anything else from who you're against? Rangda has arrived, the witch with Phys Repel finishes the essential skills list. Theres only 5 battles left in game IIRC, and yet there's so many good demons to make, I hate to see them all go unused. Considering the final battle is long, I'm going to be cautious and make as many of them as I can carry. Why does NLA need quarantines anyhow. Can mims get sick? I don't remember if I ever saw one NPC that ever said they were. -Tell me if you do. Or, maybe this is a precaution for after finding the Core? You never know how long and on what surfaces or in what vectors pathogens can survive, best to check the Xenos now, before they've strolled the streets and filled the buildings with potentially deadly diseases. Not a bad choice although isn't this the hell of hellish bosses in the very hellish boss game that is Strange Journey?, it gets the symbolism across, and is a very clean design. And it's eternity that is symbolizes according to the IV Apo Compendium entry, but semantics. As a fun fact in case you didn't know, Kazuma Kaneko, the longtime artist of SMT (who as of SMTIV has shifted out of artwork into more of a producer role) stated in an old interview his favorite design was the Nocturne redesign of Take-Minakata. Not sure which I'd consider my own favorite, there's a hundreds of designs that get reused every game because updating more than handful is expensive to choose from.
  6. Dreams are phenomena in the human brain caused by biophysical conditions, which occur through the flow of energy and atoms in the form of organic compounds. Atoms are made of matter, energy is an alternative form of matter. All matter is information. Information cannot be destroyed. Ergo, Book 5 will see every dead OC character, be they a purely a dream or not, resurrected through the stringing together of their data which has since their deaths been scattered throughout the multiverse. The Norse realm of Cyberpunkgard confirmed.
  7. Kashmir would be the accurate name I imagine, a territory in South Asia in-dispute between India, Pakistan, and China. If ICBMs were to start flying one day, it's on the short list for being the culprit. You must be having a lot of fun to fly through the game this fast. You could easily finish it this week if you keep it up with multiple entries. Are you considering 24x? Perhaps using the "kill Tiki with the Falchion in C24" trick? I don't think you'd be the kind of person to warpskip C25 via a "Warp MedeusBodyguardSlayer, Warp & Suicide Tiki, Aum Tiki, Warp Tiki to Win".
  8. I blame World War II for this. The last great conventional war (hopefully for the rest of human history) required the complete conquest and destruction of the primary European foe. That wasn't the case with World War I, and that wasn't the case with numerous prior European wars, though total conquests of course also existed. Heck, on the Pacific front, the X-Day invasion of the Japanese homeland never happened, so their surrender wasn't total conquest. And in neither theatre was there the kind of glorious final battle FE would have us assume, Berlin was granddads and grandsons with bazookas, not exactly going out with a bang; Japan did go out with a -controversial- bang, but no battle. Either you need to have an appetite for conquest & pillage or undying vengeance, or, your opponent needs to be an irrational madman and or egotistical. I think these are the criterion to justify having a war last to through the gates of the enemy's capital. FE's lords never want to steal territories, and only very rarely are filled with hatred. So what it boils down to, is FE villains being egotistical madmen and mad dragons. FE doesn't want to consider that rational people, some ambitious but still rational, start "bad wars" with other rational people, who may or may not also be ambitious. And that in reality, you can't kill them all off for good, sometimes you have to live with them. Or worse, you have to live with those who are indeed the scourges of humanity at your border, because there is no lord in shining blue hair to vanquish them.
  9. Don't forget that the Milk Bar has four Links at once, somehow happening without the Four Sword, play a tune thats called the "Ballad of the Wind Fish". Sure it sounds nothing like the original, but now it's a little ironic.
  10. How'd I forget my one of my favorites!?! March 1st, 2017. The day the The Legend of Zelda: Encyclopedia was published in Japan. The lines Zelda Wiki cites from its official English translation: When a Skull Kid steals Majora's Mask from a traveling mask salesman, the combination of the Skull Kid's burdened heart and the evil magic within Majora's Mask transforms the world into the land of Termina." (Encyclopedia (Dark Horse Books) pg. 36) "Termina is a parallel world with its own distinct culture, which is perhaps influenced by Majora's ancient tribe. This land is also inhabited by races and people similar to those found in Hyrule, which were constructed from the Skull Kid's memories and delusions." (Encyclopedia (Dark Horse Books) pg. 36) "The four giants were friends of the Skull Kid who, much like Termina itself, were created in a new form by the power of Majora's Mask." (Encyclopedia(Dark Horse Books) pg. 37) "While the hero's pure heart allows the world of Termina to momentarily revel in its salvation, as soon as he departs, that world ceases to exist." (Encyclopedia (Dark Horse Books) pg. 37) I was more saline than the Great Bay when I found out about this over a year after it first became known. To the point I made a topic containing my entire gut reaction and various other thoughts.:
  11. It's better than Phantom Hourglass at least, that game screams "portable, touch-controlled Zelda" in a bad way. Though I will say neither is a great Zelda, they aren't terrible games though, just a little limited. Link's Awakening, Oracle, and Minish Cap, are all better portable Zeldas. Ngl, the touch controls kill sword combat more than SS's WiiMotionPlus. Ah, that. Thats not so terrible a loss, compared to retconning the entirety of Termina to a creation of Majora's Mask that vanished from existence shortly after the mask was cleansed of evil by Link in the final battle in an art book. Doesn't even make total sense, how can the mask have created Termina when the Skull Kid was there before he got possessed? -Okay it's not impossible, but why then would a mask create a parallel/pocket world?
  12. I can say TP's grittier aesthetic isn't my favorite, though there are some pretty places. TP's start is drawn-out too, that a little bit of pain to me, I like the illusion of freedom and snapping to the action. Enemies are too nonthreatening is a criticism I hear of it, besides the limited use of a bunch of its dungeon items- Dominion Rod in particular. I do remember reading of someone who attempted a "pacifist run" of TP once. Wherein you kill only the enemies you absolutely have to. Annoying probably, but could be fun if you're of the right mind. ...I think I'm gonna watch some Zelda LPs for the dungeons, don't feel like playing them all, but I could use a real refresher.
  13. How else do you sell the Hover Boots for a boss battle? Gotta weave the dungeon item into the fight. And why did they have to make the Hover Boots so darned slippery? I have no memory of that from my childhood, I always kept them on after getting them, thinking them a direct upgrade over the old Kokiri Boots. So come OoT 3D, I was surprised to learn how bad they are. Bongo Bongo looks awesome at least. Not the worst design for a Wham Bam Rock "disembodied head + disembodied hands" type boss. Thematically, three of the SS dungeons are neat at least. The Ancient Cistern is a beautiful Buddhist blend of heaven and hell. Gameplay quality of the dungeons is separate from their aesthetics tho', and I forget that.
  14. I think it was to be kinder to other magic users, think about FE3B2 Jubelo. Starlight was given stats worthy of an ultimate tome in FE12, but it doesn't in FE11, and there are no other tomes besides Excalibur and Aura that would qualify. We don't have a usable A-ranked tome at all, the only one is Imhullu. Not that ultimate weapons are ever necessary. And you reminded me we actually have an image of what Miloah looks like:
  15. Someone else who loves the Oracles! Let us celebrate their greatness! But no dancing, especially not Goron dancing! I might prefer Seasons's simplicity and GBC colorfulness, Ages might overdo it a little on the puzzles, but I still enjoy it. But Master Quest has all those cow head switches in Jabu Jabu's belly! They're the most "inspired" in all of Zelda!
  16. Truth be told, I never once finished Wind Waker a veeeeeeeeeeeery pathetic and cowardly me never did the Ghost Ship. Having the Nintendo Power game guide also might've killed the sense of exploration others may have derived joy from. Replaying the game is a little hindered by nitpicky dislike of the start at Godforsaken Fortress. Though yeah, they should've let you chosen which of the Wind and Earth temples to do first. Choosing between Dragon Roost Cavern and Forbidden Woods would be cool too, but the Grappling Hook is too important and you'd have to tweak Dragon Roost Cavern for the gaining of the Deku Leaf then. Throwing Greatfish Isle into this freedom as a full-fledged town island with a dungeon, while keeping the pearl drop-off for the Tower of the Gods, would be awesome too. But such is a pipe dream. I think the various eyed-reefs could use a visual overhaul. They're too plain. Not asking for coral everywhere, that'd be weird since it's above water. but these square-shaped atolls could do with some life on them.
  17. I haven't tried Reverse Lunatic (Lunatic in every way, but enemies always attack first in combat), but I can see it being a great challenge. Hard, which I did play, could be easy with the very best units, but was sometimes difficult. Ambush spawns sent me to Hell in like two, maybe three chapters IIRC, but only those. Still the game on Lunatic seems fun and fairly balanced, minus the difficulty of using many of its units, for a super-difficulty, and maybe too much dependency on growths for those who are viable. Ironmanning it could be really brutal, but I'm not familiar with what hardcore players of FE12 have accomplished. Maybe there's someone out there who won using the generic blue units you get after everyone else has died. I get your point here. Monstrously strong enemies and relatively weaker units forces a player-phase emphasis, and the player phase is inherently more thought. (Not sure if there would be any ways to fix that for enemy phase.)
  18. SM64 might feel simple, but it was a revolution in Mario and probably gaming as a whole. I wouldn't not believe you if you said a 3D platformer with the freedom of SM64 existed before SM64, but there's no denying what has made the bigger impact. And because it was foundational, any simplicity you could say is because it wasn't been done before, it, for the time, was new.
  19. I don't think the game ever really lays out a grand strategy for Marth's adventures. And, this is the only chapter where you fight Gra in the entire game. Good for you! As you're a gameplay-first person who eats Classic Conquest Lunatic as an appetizer and has spent much of this giant LP nitpicking plots with a scalpel, I can see why this game could feel better for you. Me, once on Classic Conquest Lunatic is enough for a decade. SD, though I haven't touched it in a long time, was drab to me. Gameplaywise, I'm not entirely sure why. I wonder FE12 is going to make you feel. Will its adjustments be for the better, or worse?
  20. Nope, it's in both versions of the game. I was level 27 for the fight, just about managed to scrounge up the EXP for that. Considering you're playing on Standard, provided your characters are properly decked out, survival shouldn't be bad. With regards to Soul Liberator, I used it... twice? Once with Curse applied during Trance, and again with Blind without Trance, so that'd be 1500 damage total, my DH was doing basic attacks the rest of the time. I never tried inflicting Paralyze or Sleep, and the boss is immune to Panic and Fear. I didn't SL on Poison, because who knew if it'd last another turn and give me another 600 damage? I foolishly didn't Force Break into Rose Prison thinking the fight would go on long enough for a second Force Boost, though my Alchemist smacking out level 15 Ice Palms did Analysis into Eschaton. Again, provided the Venom Curse lands, you shouldn't have difficulties with the Flame Cubes. Provided your team has some sort of flame resistance buff and are all defending at full health, Kingly Fire should be survivable. If you get desperate because of TP... Amritas aren't farmable until the 4th Stratum, so the next best thing would be to load up on Medica IIs? Stay alive even after your Medic runs out of TP?
  21. Finished Friday in DS2, I've logged nearly 40 hours into the game so far, but the narrative doesn't feel that long, nor are there really that many battles every day. It feels kinda odd how the characters can bond so much when most of them they haven't known each other for more than a week at very best, Airi and Hinako have no reason to act all bickering friendly on Wednesday when thats the first time they've ever met. But they do, and the dissonance and brisk pace of things aren't so bad, it doesn't feel like the game is dragging. Lakshmi and Kangiten have shown up with Mediarahan, so now thats another pair of demons I have to work into every magic-oriented fusion I can possibly make. I surprisingly got Io to Fate Level 5, Titania has been unlocked for fusion. My memory says Titania can be made to Null/Drain/Reflect everything except Almighty, the only demon besides Purple Mirror and Metatron capable of achieving this, so once I reach her level, I'm going to make a perfect fairy queen. Because I wanted to start Saturday with a full battery, I swapped over to EOU2, I had enough of a charge to finish the 10th floor and take on the second stratum boss. Took me only one try with all my setup for the fight. Had to use my Beast's Force Break surprisingly early because, despite no resistance to the ailment, the first Flame Cube the boss summoned did not become Poisoned by either of Hexer's attempts on it. Turn three after the summoning being exhale + kaboom time, the only way I could survive would be via Force Break, Activated Creeping Curse as a precaution against the second summoning. And I landed Venom Curse on the first try on the final summon. Soul Liberator wasn't that broken, it deal only 900-1000 damage during Trance to the boss's nearly 9000 HP, and the skill was level 12. I need to get a Charge grimoire, and to get Chained Benefit to make use of it more reliable. The boss itself wasn't too threatening. Its normal attack routine was easily managed by my Beast and Medic. It nearly won the fight with its third Kingly Fire use, because I thought "I don't need my Medic to defend, it has enough Tec and Vitality to survive, I'll prepare Delayed Heal". The Medic suffered about 20 more damage than it had max HP and everyone else held on to life nearly dead, with a Fire Mist applied. Fortunately the boss took a turn to use its harmless and ineffective on me mass-Panic skill, and as death doesn't drain the Force Gauge, so Steady Hands brought me back into the battle. After a second successful Venom Curse infliction, easy because the boss has no Poison resistance, (which equates to a weakness b/c for FOEs and bosses in U2 and V, a circle symbolic of "normal resistance" means 50% resistance actually and a double-circle of "weakness" means less than 50% resistance) the boss died. Although it was a relatively easy boss fight, mostly because the Flame Cube issue was almost a nonissue, I did end the fight with my Dark Hunter, Alchemist, and Hexer drained of all their TP.
  22. ...Speaking of bad frame rates in Switch games. And this was made exclusively for Switch. Theres a certain Tyrant surrounded by high level goons that you can quickly dispatch en masse and then safely flee from, even with a level 30 Skell. It's great for leveling fast, and maxing out classes. For right now, you could try out this trick: "This is probably one of the easiest ways to level up in the game. You can do this with your avatar as a level 3 Mastermind or have Irinia reach Level 13 Psycorruptor+. You need the arts Brainjack and Servant Sacrifice. After you build up at least 1000 TP, head to FN 112 and fight a weaker enemy near the Milesaur. Once you engage, put away your weapon and wait and face the Milesaur. Wait for Servant Sacrifice to complete its second cool down (which allows for an immediate 2nd use). After that, target the Milesaur and get ready to use Brainjack. Once you see a purple soul voice (I recommend having Phog on your team) immediately use Brainjack and then spam Servant Sacrifice. It's a bit random on wether or not it kills the milesaur. If it doesn't kill it, just activate emergency escape and start running. Happy Milesaur hunting :)" -So say the person who posted this vid.
  23. *Points out I took down the Chapter 9 phase two boss without a Skell via infinite Overdrive* ...I still need to try Chapter 10 on foot. Though it is true that the floor on Skells is higher, even if the ceiling on-foot combat is higher. And the ceiling doesn't matter if you don't know how to reach that high and struggle to stay out of the dirt. I'd say let those not on your team get at least 50% or 75% of the EXP, though all of it would be best. Though leveling up later in XCX, as in "Flight Module", can become fairly quick. It's not the level-gating on equipment side of things that bothers me, for they would need to find a good alternative to prevent players from getting too strong from high-end equipment then. If geopolitics are an issue for your purchases as well, it's a Chinese-developed game. -But let's not go too far in that direction. Happy topic!
  24. It varies. Judging from the Jagens I know: FE3B1 Jagen- Pretty early, since he's almost obsoleted at the start by Cain and Abel. FE3B2 Arran- Maybe he gets you the Ladyblade in Chapter 2, and crosses the mountains with Marth in Chapter 1, thats it. For he is objectively benched in favor of Sirius come Chapter 4. FE4 Gen 1- Quan? He leaves after 2/3rds of Gen 1, nonexistence is a falling off as hard as it gets. Sigurd is godly from from start to end if he counts. FE4 Gen 2- Oifey, and probably a well-trained in Gen 1 Finn. These two depend on the quality of your breeding of the 2nd Gen. They could destined to be inferior from the very start, or they could in the case of an all-subs/bad pairings run be very good until the end. Both have horses, both have Pursuit, so they've got the fundamental goods, and Oifey can use swords while Finn can readily take the Brave Lance if you don't mind denying it to your Pegasus Knight. They only get bad in Chapter 10 and Final because that very rare stat called Resistance becomes almost essential for unit viability there. FE5 Eyvel and Dagdar- The former goes nonexistent after Chapter 3. The latter however I've been told fluctuates in FE5 fan arguments regarding their usability, FE5 has low stats so that helps Dagdar, his good Con makes him a great Capturebot too. Judging from my one and only playthrough of FE5, he does decline later, stats aren't entirely meaningless, and becomes ORKOable by Loptian Mages due to Charge/Accost letting them double him, but I did use him all the way to like Chapter 23. FE6 Marcus and Zelot- Whilst more intensive players will point out the subtle differences between the two, they're nearly the same for most. I only played FE6 once and on Normal, but I could see from that the point that people have made about these two. They can last you through the Western Isles, but when you get Perceval in Chapter 13/15, you put the older horsemen out to pasture. This is probably the best instance of a Jagen who fulfills the idea of what a Jagen should be. FE7 Marcus- This game consists chiefly of unpromoted units, the first fight without any is the final battle (or optional penultimate battle on HHM). Marcus greatly benefits from this. Where does he meet a relative decline? Probably around Chapter 21 -Ninian's joining fight- because by this point your units should be hitting 20 and thus promoting as most players would. That said, after this very chapter, Isadora joins with bases that are worse than Marcus's barring Spd thats irrelevant outside of Sword use because FemaleCon.🤣 If Isadora is supposed to be viable, then that says how good Marcus is. FE8 Seth- If Marcus vs. Isadora is sad, then Seth vs. Syrene is a tragicomedy, the last unit to join in the entire game has worse bases than its Jagen! Furthermore, while every prior Jagen usually had lower total growths than their unpromoted competition, Seth has more total growths than any of the three Renais Cavs. It doesn't stop them from catching up or slightly surpassing him, but it's no guarantee like it used to be back with Jagen and Arran. Add in poor enemy quality that only spikes in a couple post-reunion battles, and Seth can be the powerful star of the show to the very end. FE9 Titania- Like Seth, she has more total growths than her unpromoted competition. In her case however, she'll still fall behind them in like 3-4 Str and Def eventually because of her bases. Enemy quality in PoR, while low, is still outside of say Last Hope in FE8, a little better. You practically have to use her in up and including to Chapter 8 due to PoR's very unit-restricted earlygame, but I'd say she's not as dominant overall as Seth. FE10 Sothe- Part 1 is his realm, here, he is essential because the Dawn Brigade starts weak, though Volug and Zihark provide you with other strong units. Sothe can ORKO or 2RKO most or all non-Armor enemies and do a good job of dodgetanking. Part 3 DB sees Sothe remain useful because having anyone who can live through combat is useful, given the DB's lack of EXP in Part 1 limits how many members you could train up to survive Part 3. Part 4, the promotion isn't enough, Sothe has been obsoleted by Naesala and whichever tier 3 units from Ike's team that you've put with the Dawn Army, or maybe even a DB 3rd tier. And his Part 4 Final performance is abyssal, existing to one chest, and then leaving you to wish you could've fielded Volke, a Trueblade, or just about anyone else instead of Sothe. FE11 Jagen- Used "conventionally", Jagen falls off almost from the start yet again, barring now-significant Silver Lance exclusivity. Using reclass and forged weapons? Ridersbane on a Wyvern is very good. Maybe there's another niche too. I'm not entirely sure how even with those things Jagen fares however. FE12 Arran- Still probably bad. Reclass might've helped, but Sirius still exists, and Kris, Catria, and Palla can ride over him as Cavs too. FE13 Frederick- He does decline a bit by the time everyone is promoting at 20, but as leveling is infinite in FE13, and his growths are plenty extant, it doesn't matter. Frederick can be as good as anyone else. Excellent on Hard or Normal, heavily advisable on Lunatic for the first few chapters, though some would rather funnel much or all of his combat into rolling the Robin snowball ASAP. FE14 Gunter, Reina, Early Felikob- Gunter isn't great prior to the Branch of Fate, only usable for the two chapters he shows up. Gunter on Rev is horrendous and unusable from the start barring as a wrinkly Corrin backpack. To make them more than this on Rev or their marginally better CQ performance, reclassing to accrue a litany of skills for a complex setup is neccessary. Reina is more what a Jagen usable to the end of the game should look like, she's always fragile, always a little shaky on the accuracy, but she can just about secure the Str to ORKOs on a lot of thing, and will always have the Spd to do it. Jakob and Felicia are penalized for not having stats that are really reflective of starting promoted, when others suddenly get a stat bump from promoting, they won't. Jakob starts the better of the two, since he can deal more damage than Felicia as a Butler until and if the Flame Shuriken shows up, and he can do better as a Paladin than Felicia as a Strategist. But his growths will probably bench him before Felicia, if either is destined to go that way at all. Both can use their early promoted skills access to their benefit, but this takes some time, they must still reach level 15 for the 15 skills, and partly dependent on their lovers and friendships. TRS Garo- Was he supposed to be a Jagen? Dude is eh from the start. Lee and Raffin on the other hand are fairly balanced Jagens, the latter perhaps could be underpowered though if you were playing this game without psychic powers as you should and didn't foresee Runan at the first split is his destiny. Now, when should Jagens fall off? Easy, past the middle of the midgame, the exact halfway point. Buuuut, FE attaches faces to everyone, and because bond with these faces, everyone should be perfectly usable to the very end, thats the modern mindset more or less.
