Rate the Unit, Day 41: Sophia

Recommended Posts

.5/10. Nothing I can say that hasn't been said already... She's nothing more than a poor man's Lilina (and Lilina's not exactly a good unit).

Really, she's shit. Those bases are fucking awful, and the only good growths are Mag and Res. She can do some chip damage from range at most, but then would have to be under constant protection. But thanks for the extra Guiding Ring, anyway.

*MISS!*

You tend to see this a lot when you use dark magic and have a base of 2 SKL. With a 40% growth.

"My future... holds no light..."

You tend to read this a lot when you have 4 SPD-3 LCK-1 DEF. With growths of 30%-20%-20%.

"SCREW THIS GAME!!!"

You tend to shout this a lot when you try to use Sophia.

0.5/10

You know, thinking about this harder, I have to agree with frat_tastic to a point. I can't find anything really redemption-worthy other than she's some kind of magnet for status staves. She's pretty nonredeemable.

0/10.

0/10 - even worse than Wendy. At least Wendy can be babytrained with a Steel Lance and armor triangle attack and can take a hit eventually, but Sophia can't even manage that. She comes being ORKO if not OHKO by practically everything, and she's forced in her joining chapter so you may actually have to use resources to protect her. Her speed and luck are also stupidly low so her Avoid is negligible at best, which means she can never see the light of combat, ever. If you do manage to get her to promotion, she can heal stuff... and that's it. Sorry Sophia, I hate you.

I can't see Wendy as better when I have to blow THREE unit slots on armors AND get them to surround an enemy just to raise her - it's just too impractical.

In theory one could train Wendy with triangle attack (only in chapter 6 of course) like a level and then get a rare chip hit to an archer. Sophia can't even manage that must her only redeeming quality is her pretty face.

0/10 and in the case you can't tell that includes entire positive bias point

in theory one could have sophia take potshots at every opportunity and be very careful that she doesn't die

i really don't understand this reasoning

Everything about her has already been said. Crappy bases, late join time and even when she's trained she's still outclassed by everything that moves.

1/10 because I usually don't go any lower then that.

1/10 I'm watching Toothache's draft progress and he's about to promote her, though it's normal mode and he's scripting (I think). She definitely looks more manageable than Wendy. Worse than Lilina though, due to having less availability and worse hit rates.

Back in Lilina's thread (I think) I considered possibly not giving Sophia a zero on the basis of potential staff use later on. But is E staves, after a promotion she hasn't earned from ten levels she virtually cannot get, really able to save her? In this case, I must say no.

Can eclipse walls eventually (I mean, we're assuming she's getting used here), gets a guiding ring, and you don't have to pain yourself recruiting her. Also she at least does damage when she hits, unlike Cath and Wendy.

1.5/10

I'm not saying that since Sophia gets you that one item, her utility is equal to thief utility. I'm saying that giving Sophia points for getting you the Guiding Ring uses the same logic as giving Thieves points for their utility. Obviously, the Guiding Ring is not worth anywhere near as much as Thief Utility; that's why I only gave her a 0.5/10. But you have Saul and Clarine, and possibly Lugh and Ellen that might want a Guiding Ring (these are only decent or at least usable characters, btw- I'm not counting if you really want to raise Lilina or Ray or something), and if you don't get this one, your second magical unit has to wait until Chapter 19/20 to promote. Letting a unit promote up to 6 chapters earlier is worth at least half a point.

And saying she's worse than Wendy? They both have combat that is about as irredeemable as is possible. Minute differences like Sophia hits Res and Wendy has Triangle Attack don't matter. But getting that Guiding Ring is a hundred times more utility than Wendy will ever provide.

Sophia, that weird shaman chick who is half dragon or something...

Pros:

Cute?

Cons:

Bad bases.

Bad level.

Cant hit.

super squishy.

Ass to train.

Sophia comes on your team and lately, yer thinking "YEAH I GOT SOME PRETTY GOOD UNITS ON MY SIDE NOW! THE CURSE OF THE SHIT UNITS IS OVER!!! No...No it isnt. Sophia comes along and reminds the player that FE6 is a bastard about shovelling shit units on you. Worst part is, shes gotta stay alive to get that gaiden chapter. Sure she can net that Guilding Ring but....yeah. Im not gonna put that in her favor. Are you really training another mage? You might be but i dunno. I know i wasnt. Shes gonna die if things even look at her funny. Poor Sophia.

1/10. 1.5/10 bias because shes adorable.

i gave Wendy a 0.01, she broke a wall, then stayed out of my way all the way back in chapter 8. Also the secret shop if in Chapter 16, which is only 3 chapters away if I really need another guiding ring.

How about this then? Wendy isn't a fucking ESCORT MISSION and any unit that's picking up Sophia so she doesn't get ganked, is tanking themselves in versatility for the chapter, she is a liability a boulder around the neck, she is worth negative value to my team, and the guiding ring only brings that up to back up to 0.

Hey, a level 1 mage coming so late in the game. she must have good growths. And if you put a lot of work in her she ends better then all your other mages in the game, right?

Hahahahahahahahahahahaaha! Muhahahahahahaha! Yihahahahahahaha! Bruhahahahahaha!

WUHAHAAHAAH!! Kii...Kii...Kiiii... KiiiHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!! Giahahahahaha!!! Hahahahahaha!!! Ha! Ha! Hahahahaha!!!

No!

She joins late. She is underleveled. Her bases suck. Even for her level. Her growths don't get her anywhere. Seriously. They suck. Her class sucks too. She can't use any weapons without being weighted down. Her hit sucks as well.

At least she never gets doubled but only because it never takes more then one hit to kill her in the first place.

In fact she has even less Con then Lilina. Freaking Lilina. Actually even if we ignore trivial things like joining time, Lilina is better then her in anything. And Lilina sucks. A lot.

Heck, I would like to go back and give Lilina a 7/10 because the bottom of the barrel is really THAT deep down in this game.

What in the nine hecks were the people at IS thinking!

0/10 - A punchline to a joke no one outside of IS knows about.
