Hwahahahahahah. It's on. Valbaron has been unleashed. I even forged his dinky javelin into a badass saunion. It's all over, Rigel! You may as well surrender now.

...Oh, and Leon hopped on a horse. The guy's stats are hilarious. He would break the game in half if I let him.

Anyway, I've done enough Celica for now. I've gone to Grieth and back while Alm just chilled in front of Desaix's fortress! You can hardly tell which of the two teams I'm more fond of. I'll leave her resting at the shrine and get Alm to his own shrine, and I think that'll be enough for now.

There we go. Beat up Lawson and his goons (I mean Lawson was little more than a goon himself) and then we were on our way.

I like Celica's team so much more than Alm's. Not so say Alm's got no cool units, but they're just not as cool overall as Celica's team.

I’ve read 4 books over the course of a week, and each book is 300+ pages. Also it’s my favorite time of the week, Friday night! I get to drink away my miseries and callous contempt with copious amounts of booze!

I know you haven't answered in a bit, but have you gotten in touch with some medical help by now?

Hope you're improving regardless.

Went through Week 2 Day 3. Narratively, barring the offer at the end (which feels like I'll be backstabbed, I don't like that 😑), it was pretty light. For the choice as to whether to temporarily split the team towards the end, I chose to do so, but turned the difficulty back down to Easy just in case. Turned out it didn't feel quite so necessary, but it was all common grunt enemies, so no biggie.

With a certain gameplay hindrance over, I spent a lot of time fighting optional Noise. I had sworn off battle for the first two days of Week 2, and now I was really in the mood to do a lot. As I did so, I ate a lot of food b/c I thought I hadn't eaten enough in the first week and first two days of the second, I wanted to catch up on stat boosts. Food and clothing in TWEWY alike have nice artwork, good flavor text, and overall add to the two games' character. I got the three orders in at most eateries to get that little Social Network annoyance out of my head, although some remain unpatronized.

I experimented with various new pins to what was good and what was bad. The good was the large fire vortex now stuck to Rindo, it renders him impossible, but it's so good except for that. Nagi is using the Topo-Topo bomb pin with the vampire effect, because limitless mid-battle healing is great -except when she gets pinned down by wolf or grabbed by a bird just as she is about to throw it. Chuck a charged bomb in the middle of a pack of Noise, and I can get like 10-15% of my HP back in a use, pretty awesome. The mine bombs were lacking though, the charged flurry of fists is garbo in the absence of invincibility frames, and I don't ever see myself using the shields. The other two characters are using good old rapid-tap X and Y pins, as they build the Groove with ease.

Now on Day 4, I've done a little more optional fighting, but I think I've gotten the marital urge out of my system now, and can move on to the story again.

And my new laptop has just arrived! I haven't opened it yet, but it's here. Happy merry early holidays for me! Blessed indeed art I the unworthy.

Please don't let the heating issues I've read are typical of gaming laptops cause it to burst into flames! Please don't let some stray piece of malware hit it! Please don't let me drop it or someone spill food/liquid on it such that it is totally and utterly ruined!

I gave Luthier all three charges of the experience fountain so he could promote.

I regret nothing.

That's the spirit, girl. That's the spirit.

Anyway, I've cleared both shrines, promoted a bunch of people like Silque and Atlas, and read Claire and Gray's B support. Brought her out of the bench, for... eh, no bigger reason than I felt like it. Kinda glad I did now, she chewed him out, it was great to watch. Guess that makes Tobin the only benchwarmer... Unless I obtain a pitchfork and redirect him to merc so I can salvage him. But I don't like him, he's an asshole, and I'm told merc villager is OP and the meta, both factors against using it.

Yeah, well, this conversation always happens with 1 RN games. Honestly, I don't see it. I've missed a fair share of 70%s and I've also landed some 30%s. It happens. Best not question it.

Wait, what? Who? Where? I'm not seeing this...

EDIT: Yeah I found 'em. I'd seen that fellow around, I think he popped up here a couple times. That's unfortunate.

True route staaaaar

And plot twist

WTF

Enjoy!

Also, do VNs usually follow this structure of hopping from route to route to understand everything and get the true route™ or is that just this one? It seems like a concept with a lot of room for creative storytelling, depending on how fundamentally different these routes are. Me like.

both exist, and even more variations.

Some have multipe ''True routes''. Some have only one true route, with and without requirements. Some have the routes related, some have them tell a completely different story each route but needing stuff from earlier route to understand it, etc.

It's why harem Mechanics in rpgs piss me off so much. In RPGs it's just ''Choose your Waifubando'' while in VNs choices lead to completely different stories

I just think the idea of a bunch of separate stories telling a broader story could be really cool in a game where the entire game is story and not like, Fates, where you’d have to play all these routes as well. It would also be easier to implement alternate scenarios if the entire game is story, I would imagine.

Huh, that’s why?

Gravity Rush 2 has a side-mission where the slums are being attacked by the alien thingies and you have a choice between saving a poor kid's younger sister or escorting a rich snob (who insists he's more important than children) to safety. I choose to do the former because not only would escorting the rich snob be out of character for Kat, you'd just be an actual asshole for doing that.

I don't actually know what the outcome is if you choose the rich snob over the poor kids but it's probably not good.

Anyways, what's going on?

Still sad that they did this Cipher thing one time when they could've very easily done it again. Especially since there's more than just the four in SoV.

What Shrimpy said although this is really for pure VNs. As in, no gameplay whatsoever. Because when it's just text and visuals, you can focus on just that instead of having to devote time and resources to the gameplay.

Stuff like Ace Attoerny, Professor Layton, are still VNs but since they have actual gameplay, there isn't really much in the way of branching paths, if there are any at all.

13 Sentinels does a bit of both because there's technically only one route but each character's story has different branches and you use the information gathered in a previous branch to unlock the new branches and get everything. The game does have a list where you can view every single event in chronological order in case you get confused.

Of course, there are non-VN games that do actual different routes too. NeiR Automata, Xenoblade X (on a smaller scale, it's for the sidequests, of which many are chains). But they aren't as common.

Subverting expectations on quests like this can certainly be a thing every now and then.

And with Cipher having ended, even more so. But who knows, perhaps we might see the others in some future game.
