    Merric really tore through everyone, I knew he was fast, but wow. I guess Eliwood helped in that department. Also neat to see M!Robin used, he hardly ever appears anywhere...and neither does Rally Attack. Nice work!

    @Maaka

    I’m absolutely astonished that Spring Bartre was still able to 4x Corrin after getting hit by Dark Breath. Great job!

    ~

    Two things annoyed me on this map: the Spd stack on Corrin, and the Spendthrift Bow. I almost uploaded a variant using Legendary Leif, but then I realized that with young Caeda not using Galeforce, the Heavy Blade seal was open. A perfect opportunity.

    Whoa, I wasn’t expecting Saizo to totally obliterate Ashnard there. I can’t tell, was Vantage just there so he could style on the Lance Fighter? Nice job!

    @LordFrigid Azura is my favorite Shadow Dragon character.

    Spoiler

    It occurs to me that I’ve now set myself up for “Groom Marth is my favorite Caeda alt.” ...oh well.

    @Maaka

    Watching Bartre go against the weapon triangle and eat the boss’ special never gets old. Doubly impressive due to Gugurant’s Atk & Def lowering effects. Nice work!

    @Landmaster

    I see Nowi’s cheating again...at least she didn’t kill the guy. Not much to say, here...the spread-out enemies never really had a chance of converging on your units in time to be a real threat. Great job!

    I think I'll try to build something around Eliwood Galeforce Lunge, traps and WoM shenanigans.

    Anyone has an example of a setup like this?

    I took a brief look through some of the enemy map screenshots I’ve accumulated  (maybe someday I’ll finish putting them all together...), here are the interesting ones:

    Spoiler

    0PiW0kn.jpg

    Rally Trap setup, with the idea being that unless Veronica is eliminated, Eliwood will Rally from the space below Reinhardt, causing significant overlap in their ranges. The spaces where Reinhardt doesn’t overlap with Eliwood, he overlaps with Thrasir.

    Spoiler

    K8u0EZS.jpg

    Lunge Melee Cavalry: the map.

    Spoiler

    jUdQcAg.jpg

    Standard Lunge Firesweep Cav setup.

    Spoiler

    nTJGj9U.jpg

    Another Rally Trap. Drop anyone on the edge of Eliwood’s range, and you’ll trip a warp chain that ends with Sothe and (probably) NY!Alfonse hitting your unit with fully charged specials.

    Spoiler

    mEvGeHI.jpg

    There are some issues with this particular map, it looks like it was designed for a Water Season, where Bow Chrom would give Sothe the last pulse he needs for Blazing Wind. So that would need to be addressed somehow. After that, Eliwood could probably be swapped in instead of Horse Chrom...as far as I can tell, this person just really likes Chrom. Oh, and Rinea was a bonus unit for this screenshot.

    The last one, you mean the buffs granted by bonus doubler being hit by panic? If that’s the case, i think they will act as panicked buffs and it will work in the same way (let’s say the +5 Atk buff becomes +10 due to BD. If he is panicked, his base atk will be reduced by 17 points. I’m sure you can guess what comes next).

    Bonus Doubler does not double the value of a buff, it provides a combat bonus equal to the value of the buff, and it does not apply to reversed buffs. -7 debuff and -5 reversed buff is only -12, not -17.

  5. @Some Jerk

    Midori getting thrown at everything and not dying? Are we playing Fates? I was focused on the enemies in the lower right on T3, so when she walked up and obliterated Edelgard instead I was quite surprised. Nice job!

    @Diovani Bressan

    Marth dropping that OHKO on Edelgard was great. Nowi, putting in tons of work, as usual. Straight-up ignoring the Sword Dragon was pretty hilarious. Nice work!

    @Maaka

    Seeing Bartre double fast foes never gets old. Even after noticing the Armorsmasher, I was still a little surprised that Bartre was able to OHKO Edelgard. +Style points for the attackers finishing all in a row. Great work!

    @Landmaster

    Crazy warp shenanigans screwing with the AI, I approve. Nice use of the terrain to keep the foes at a safe distance, as well. Pegasus Carrot invalidating Aymr & Wary Fighter is always fun. Nice job!

    @SatsumaFSoysoy

    Ooh, double Celica! Legendary Celica made very short work of her enemies, as expected. I was surprised when Veronica was left in front of the manakete, and even more surprised when she survived with 1 HP. Nice work!

    So when are we getting a triple Celica clear?

    4 hours ago, SatsumaFSoysoy said:

    Baby Caeda and Caeda could've swapped targets, right? You just wanted the boss kill to go to Caeda?

    Actually, I was originally going to do it the other way around...then the Sword Fighter had to go and have a Def stat. I could maybe have stacked enough Atk to Brave Sword through it, probably ditching Leif for my 2nd Caeda to get another Goad stack up after WoM-ing to take out the Sword Cav on the other side. But effective damage was just easier.

    ~

    Celica’s refresher friends had to do some actual fighting this time, but they pulled through in the end.

    Spoiler

    Thrasir didn’t need or want her refreshers’ battle assistance, and managed to power through it. The general lack of reds definitely helped.

    Spoiler

    This battle’s theme team was “Sword Lords”, banding together to show Edelgard why axes are inferior...and also because I haven’t used Eirika in way too long. Come to think of it, only Celica sees consistent use, of that bunch.

  6. @Landmaster

    Ooh, Dagger Elise put in some serious work here. Ryoma’s a pretty tough cookie, needing chip damage and a Special to go down. +Style points for those final formations on T3 & T4. Nice work!

    Palla is pretty strong, but Caeda is just ridiculous... I'm not really pulling that much though, spent some on Mareeta (got her, +Spd -Def) and saving for Pent instead.

    Coin toss on who’s better for one turns, imo. +Movement to fliers without consuming an action is huge for a good chunk of my one turn cast. Actually, with Caeda, Palla, and Minerva, this event was a seriously good addition to the one turn operation.

    Lucky duck. I am apparently unable to pull Mareeta unless she’s -Atk. Oh well. Close Call fodder. If I can find someone who can use it effectively...Eirika? Good luck on your quest for Pent! ...or is it a quest for Pulse Smoke? I’ll probably be in full-on save mode by then, waiting for Caeda & Lilith’s next appearances.

  7. @Maaka

    Axe Bartre putting in some serious work. Eating that Astra was something else. Thank goodness for his huge HP & Def pools. Nice work!

    @Diovani Bressan

    The big style points were actually from having your units in a diagonal line at the end, even if Micaiah could’ve been one space over and up. Merric’s got one heck of a base kit. Great job!

    @SatsumaFSoysoy

    Dang...Sakura too weak to save her big brother. I initially thought she might try healing the red mage, I didn’t realize she wouldn’t be able to get Ryoma back to full. Tsk. Neat to see Skadi in use. Nice job!

    @LordFrigid The crew does it again. How goes the hunt for babby Caeda?

    Exceptionally well. She’ll show up in one of these sooner or later. I also managed to pick up a +Atk Palla on the way, which was great, since I tend to use fliers a lot, and that Duo skill is just ridiculous.

  8. @Landmaster

    Absorb strats really are something...reminds me of SoV Faye. Or almost Fates Odin, except he doesn’t actually kill things. Nice work!

    @Diovani Bressan

    Speaking of Odin, yours made pretty short work of everything here. Truly, his darkness was darker than Iago’s. Great job!

    @Maaka

    Nice job on your clear as well! I never thought I’d see two Bartres zooming around a map, Galeforcing their way to victory. Now build up Fir and Karla for the family one-turn.

    @SatsumaFSoysoy

    Wow, Clarisse, huh. Don’t see her too often...I think the last time might have been the last time I cleared her GHB (unless you count that one A Day in the Life comic a while back). Hm. But clearly, Tiki & Lute were the stars of the show here. Nice to see that Tiki’s still got it after all this time. Nice work!

    As long as you don't mind that I have a tendency to forget to respond sometimes, sure.

    Excellent use of positioning skills, and watching Valentian Catria in action was great, I don't see her very often. 5 hits from Catria to finish Bramimond off was cool as well, he's got some serious bulk. Nice work!

    Two Velouria questions.

    >Does Wolfpup Fang do anything for Velouria's support partner in AR Defense?
    >Who are some units who would appreciate the effects of Wolfpup Fang?

    1. No.
    2. Well, technically anyone with a special, but in the context of units who can use that boost to set up into something bigger:
      1. I usually use it to charge up Galeforce (extra helpful if I need Galeforce activated in one hit, or if I need to Heavy/Flashing Blade my way through Guard).
      2. It probably plays nicely with Devil Axe/Berserk Armads+Wrath.
      3. Edit: Tome of Thoron setups, or even plain old Special Spiral users (Ares comes to mind) would also benefit.

    Not sure what the point of Leila and Lilith in same Team is.

    I explained the exact use case I had in mind.

    Now, if you were trying to say it’s not a useful use case, I can go along with that. Everyone plays differently.

    If anything Lilith is a fantastic support partner for a cav galeforce unit or cav ranged unit due to the amount of mobility you gain

    I agree with this.

  12. Ok. I've calmed down a little bit now.

    Midori looks like an interesting unit, Close Foil looks like it'd be interesting on a Naga (Eff) Set for Julia. Spendthrift Bow's Atk swings seem very useful, though the cooldown count increase after combat hurts, unless you're good at getting one-round specials off. Bold/Special Fighter armors, perhaps.

    I like how Rinkah's Club is a reference to her personal skill in Fates. Distant Foil seems kinda meh, as a skill...though I'm looking at it through the biased lens of how useful it would be in AR.

    Forrest is bringing Fortress Res and Res Ploy to the summonable pool, and more cavalry healers are always nice.

    Lilith is amazing. Flying Dragon with Astral Breath is always what I imagined for her. I figured Astral Breath might have DC, since it's a long-range weapon in Fates, but what it does have is arguably a lot better. Free mobility and +5 stat bonuses (on top of inherent +3 Spd, no less) should make her a great option for utility and combat. She could probably pull off some crazy shenanigans with that warp power. I actually think she'd pair nicely with Leila for Galeforce-less hit-and-run shenanigans (Attack with Leila → Constant Dagger switch → Warp with Lilith → Reposition...though I guess technically this was always possible with an Aerobatics flier/cavalry unit). It's a pity I don't have Leila.

    If you have Nailah, can you test out whether Chaos Manifest will still double Nailah if Nailah is inflicted with the Flash effect? I am curious about whether Null C-Disrupt masks the in-combat status reduction as well as the out-of-combat status effect. I have Nailah, but I do not have Yune to test it.

    I threw together an AR defense map with Nailah and Ophelia, and applied Candlelight+ to Nailah. I brought in Yune and Hrid. I had to take Chaos Manifest off, and Freezing Seal targeted Ophelia (i.e. Nailah only has the "Prevents Counterattacks" status effect).

    Both Chaos Manifest and Gjöll granted automatic follow-ups.

    What I am trying to figure out is if status effects like Gravity and Panic (assuming there are no buffs to reverse) have an in-combat "stat reduction" component, similar to regular stat Penalties like Atk-7 having in-combat stat reduction.

    (snipped)

    My hypothesis is that since Chaos Manifest doubles Brave Echoes Micaiah, Chaos Manifest checks both the in-combat status reduction and out-of-combat status effect. So if Chaos Manifest does not double a Flashed Nailah, that means Null C-Disrupt masks the in-combat status reduction and out-of-combat status effect.

    However, if Chaos Manifest doubles a Flashed Nailah, that means Null C-Disrupt only masks the in-combat status reduction. But more importantly, it gives more evidence that all Penalties have an in-combat status reduction component, even if no stats are involved.

    I'm not sure why you wouldn't just leave it at "in-combat component" and "out-of-combat component", instead of bring in "stat reduction". Overall, I think even trying to describe a status effect as having two distinct and separate components is taking it a little far. We'll never be able to prove how exactly they've implemented things without actually looking at the code.

    I'll grant that it's a convenient way to justify the interaction. But so is: "A status effect is an object that has an effect property. Skills that neutralize status effects can neutralize the effect property (such that the status effect exists, but its effect does not affect the unit), or neutralize the status effect itself (such that the status effect is treated as nonexistent). Skills that check status effects can check whether the status effect exists, or whether its effect affects the unit". It's a neat way of thinking about it, but I can't prove that's how they've done it.

    I personally like the way that Johann's description discusses the interaction without trying to get into the specifics of what a penalty is in the code. I agree with the stance that trying to create new terminology is over-complicating it.

    On 4/2/2020 at 5:28 AM, XRay said:

    I am trying to use the calculator to test things, but it is not helping. Chaos Manifest does not double unless you manually enable it to double.

    Really. I already wasn't a fan of how they implemented some things (e.g. Blessings, Distant Guard), but...wow. They even have an entire suite of input fields for specifying penalties and status effects.

    On a separate note, I would personally recommend restructuring the OP as (1) describe how the interactions work, (2) list which skills check and neutralize what, (3) combat examples. I think that would flow a little better.

    Edit: A couple more tests, run by going into Paralogue 37-3, applying a Res Penalty only to Micaiah, and fighting her with various units.

    • Killing Intent was active. Thrasir performed her follow-up before Micaiah's counterattack and got wiped by Glimmer.
    • Petal Parasol was active. Fiora (base kit, no merges, no buffs, 46 printed Atk) dealt 43 damage vs Micaiah's 18 Def.
      • Based on this test, I would guess that Big-Catch Bow and Scallop Blade would also be active in these conditions.

    @LordFrigid What are your plans regarding Caeda?

    Right now, I’d like to pull at least one. I’m still thinking about it. Lilith really throws a wrench in the works, if I’m being honest. Plus the art makes it look like she’s going to share a color with Marth (not that I’d mind Marth, I like him well enough too, he’s just not Caeda). Though if that silver border they had around her portrait means she’s going to be 4*/5*, I will be a happy summoner. I’m not really expecting that to be the case, though.
