Rules (adapted from Integrity's)

- Ratings are for Normal Mode.

- Votes need some explanation regarding their gameplay performance to be counted. If somebody else said what you want to already, quote them explicitly.

+/- ≤1 point extra regarding personality/appearance is encouraged, but no more. If you exercise your bias privileges, please do so explicitly.

- Votes are made out of 10. You cannot rate a unit above 10 or below 0.

- The rating topic will be updated whenever I feel like it, but I will try to allow at least 24 hours for each topic. They will generally be updated at around noon EST.

- A character being inferior relative to another character does not explicitly reduce their rating.

- Characters do not get credit for recruiting others or allowing access to side quests.

- Assume that the character in question is being recruited.

- Characters do not get credit for bringing items.

- I reserve the right to ignore any votes which are not well-supported.

- You may allow a character to use scrolls (and adjust their rating appropriately) so long as it is reasonable (you may debate what constitutes "reasonable" if you feel people may disagree with you). You cannot arbitrarily increase a unit's score by arguing that they may exclusively use half a dozen scrolls for themself. In general, scrolls will probably not add more than +1 to a character's overall rating.

- Warp skipping has an impact on scores in so far as "Safy has an high base staff rank". Nanna would score lower than Safy because of her lower rank, but no chapter is explicitly said to be skipped. You can't get Warp and then suddenly say every character after doesn't exist or requires turns to recruit. Something could be said of Xavier, or Conomore/Amalda who are in an escape chapter where Leaf starts next to the escape point.

Not good by any means, but some things are worth taking a look at. Despite the fact that he's an armor, it doesn't matter as much as it could due to the large number of indoor maps left in the game (as well as chapter 20). His base stats are okay, but his defense and HP are quite high which, along with Great Shield, allow him to tank blows fairly easily. Wrath supplements his otherwise poor offense. His weapon ranks of C Swords, A Axes, A Bows are solid, allowing him to wield, among other things, the Brave Bow, which is unlikely to see use if Selphina is not fielded. All that said, though, he's extremely slow (6 speed base, really?), has no mobility whatsoever, and, perhaps most importantly, recruiting him is just terrible. It's really, really hard to justify using him when his recruitment is such a headache. Basically, his only real unique contribution is possible Brave Bow use, but it doesn't really cover all the problems he has. 2.75/10

That recruitment is just fucking awful. try getting him and the silver card. never again.

Ok, Xavier. he's got nice defense, hp, and strength, but that speed is horrible. good skills and weapon ranks except E lances, but he comes too late and he has no mobility at all. just give Xavier the brave bow if you plan on using him.

You may have nice weapon ranks and decent base stats but the effort to recruit Xavier is seriously not worth it. If Xavier was at least 3 times easier to recruit, I would give him a 4 or 5/10. For me, the effort to recruit him kills his rating.

Despite being hard to recruit, I think Xavier brings a fair amount of utility. First of all, he has a leadership star, which is always nice to have since the enemy leadership tends to be higher in the last chapters of the game. While the enemies will start to use magic more often, 38 HP/17 Defense bases are enourmous against the other half of enemies. One could mention his horrible base Speed of 6, but keep in mind a Speed Ring is available in the following chapter for a bonus three and his Speed growth isn't too bad either. He also joins with three skills as well : Big Shield to add a level % chance of dodging, Charge to attract ballistae fire and make doubling easier and Wrath to help counter his 0 PCC on top of being a great addition on a defensive class. Despite low speed, he can be surprisingly dodgy if Leaf is around him, especially with the King Sword equipped. Low movement would be a problem, but plenty of maps are indoors until the end of the game, so it's not as bad as it seems and he's not afraid of ballistae like Miranda is.

He also has some of the highest weapon ranks in the game as well. His A in bows is a rare trait among your units, making him able to use the Brave Bow and all the Master Bows with little competition. It especially helps against Dark Mages since he kills them in two consecutive hits and avoids a counter in the process. A in axes is great as well, and C in swords is workable, at least giving him the Rapier which can be put to good use in many chapters. In terms of scrolls, the Sety scroll shouldn't have too much competition and should almost always be on him. He otherwise needs very little since he has little issues surviving. Hezul could be interesting if you intend to have him draw ballistae fire, but it's not a priority.

Fairly good unit, but he does come late.

Xavier is a great lategame unit. He has decent bases (with only Speed and Luck to work on), good weapon ranks (save for E Lances), and good growths to help raise some of his lower bases. He also has Big Shield, Duel and Wrath to make for a great physical tank. He helps a lot specially in indoor maps, and with all this, he could be a 7/10 unit, EASILY.

Of course, there's the fact that Xavier has the most bullshit recruiting requirements in the ENTIRE SERIES. If they wouldn't have made it so that the process is so tedious and luck-based, Xavier would totally be worth getting. But when you have to plan a strategy that involves massive rescuing/dropping, several turns going to waste, long-range magic, warping, and PRAYING TO THE TWELVE GODS THAT THIS GENERAL WON'T CRIT THIS OTHER GENERAL, then it's just not worth it. No unit is THAT good.

Maybe if he came with the Gaebolg.

Nah, not even then.

Wasn't there a rule that recruitment couldn't be counted against a unit?

Anyway. Wrath helps his offense, as do some good weapon ranks. Unfortunately, he has bad move and while his durability would be good, there are a lot of weapons effective against armors in this game. He's decent, thanks to wrath, but he, like all armors, still has some serious issues. 4/10 -bias for his bullshit recruitment 3/10

His recruitment sequence is so extreme that it merits mentioning.

This guy's recruitment...

He's not bad when you get him, but really recruiting him just costs so many turns and it's such a pain that he's just not worth getting.

2/10, I guess.

But the game requires you to recruit all characters or otherwise it will enforce a stricter turn limit for the ranks. Xavier is no exception. So wouldn't he kind of contribute to a good ranking?

Ranks in this game are as bullshit as Xavier's requirements.

And in case someone's wondering why I have Xavier as my avatar, is because we share the same real name. (Well, sorta, my name is the Spanish equivalent Javier)

Xavier may be considerable. Especially above Dalshin if it weren't for his recruitment requirements. But the amount of turns, Sleeps Staff/Sword uses, long ranged mag, Repair Staff cost for 1 or even 2 to repair Salem's Sleep Staff for this. Even putting all the effort to recruiting him, he won't be any good without the Sety scroll/Speed Rings and E in lances sucks. But he is one of the only two characters in the game to be able to use lances indoors.
